Being a football fan in the sense of playing the game the right way then Glen Hoddle would be my first choice another horses for courses choice would be Paul Ince given the recent media news of no black managers around but realistically I reckon GARTSIDE will go for the cheap reason and plump for Jimmy Phillips who when you think about it Jimmy would do the job for nothing.

Neil Lennon wouldn't be a bad choice, he has an aggressive passion on the touchline, which may be what the players need.

Lennon would be a good option but I don't think we could fulfill his expectations in terms of available transfer fees.
Whoever we get I think it unlikely we could afford to pay compo which rules out anyone currently with a job.

Unless it's a lower league club who need the money and wouldn't ask for millions .. What about David Flitcroft - Bury?
They're playing well and playing some decent football .. added to that they made us look stupid a few weeks ago in the League Cup.

Why do people think its not Jimmy today. I see it one or two ways. 1.) Jimmy is annoyed that last time out he was only given 3 games despite doing "ok/well", especially to be replaced by a guy with little experience. 2.) Jimmy is holding back, trying to use the Tim Sherwood tactic of not accepting anything less than a longer contract. 3.) Jimmy really doesn't rate the players we have, knows he can't bring anyone in and knows he can't turn it around
or even
4.) Last time Jimmy was put in charge he dropped captain(rightly), played players possibly with match bonuses in contracts and who Gartside probably wanted rid off(Petrov). Maybe Gartside had a few senior players knock on his door with sob stories.
I hope its 2.

I'm sure there's more...

Forget Pullis there's absolutely no way he'd come here or get on with Garty. I really Phil Brown would be best a combination of experience, personality and affection for the club. If it had to be someone from outside Mike Phelan would be a good shout or Rene Mullenstein. And Karl Robinson looks a genuine rising star. I really do think though that we're in a false position, I think the squad is much better than our position suggests and someone who can heal the wounds and bring the players together shouldn't have a really difficult job. I think the financial situation is something of a red herring that zFreedman clung to as an excuse. I'm not minimising the situation but I think his problems were entirely of his own design. Anyway whoever it is the targets clear, just keep us up. I agree about Phil Brown, I knew him in his playing days for the Wanderers and he was a smashing friendly guy, no airs and graces. He gained a lot of experience working along side Sam, also his days with Hull and Preston. His enthusiasm could probably get him through.

I'm a wee but uninspired by the majority of names being touted, including JP and Phil Brown
Phil Brown & Rioch perhaps!!!! Or SJM and Rioch?

Jimmy has been pushed out to 12/1. I am ruling out anyone attached to a club as I don't think we'd pay compensation at all. So with that said and looking at the betting across the board(i'm sure bookies all have someone in the know) I realistically think its between Malkay and Tony Mowbray(Not my choices by the way). Whether Gartside with his reputation at the moment wants to run the risk of appointing Mackay who would no doubt bring a negative media is another question. So safe and uninspiring bet is Tony Mowbray who I think would make a better sheepdog trialist than manager. You can get 5/1 on him and he's the guy The Mirror believe it to be.
I'm quite surprised that three people I would have thought would be favourites are rank outsiders. Chris Hughton, Billy Davies and Steve Clark.
Iles said a few people have thrown their hat in already, rooted to the foot of the table maybe they are regretting that now. Dougie said it was a tougher job than he realised, I think he's right. (Mainly because of the calibre of players he brought in mind) We're banking really on Wheater coming back strong(Dervite and Mills doesn't seem to work at all) and these kids being good. One or two games isn't enough either they've got to do it consistantly. Whether they can if they get the choice, for me will decide if we stay up or go down. That simple because I have zero faith in Moxey, Dervite, Pratley, Trotter, Danns, Craig Davies and Feeney. Mills, Spearing, Medo, Beckford, Lonergan and Lee all disappointing this season.
Its not great is it.

Well Jimmy Phillips was in the directors box today, right in front of Gartside (the first time I've seen him there since Freedman took over) and everyone who came into the stand shook his hand, says volumes. Gartside didn't stay in there for very long 30 mins tops before I noticed he's left the stands.

If rather be talking about who will be our new chairman first before talking about new manager!! Quite frankly can we be happy with whoever Phil chooses next??
