I did say we usually get 2 away against these bottom 10 sides. the surprise is the 2 conceded.

We are so soft and defending far too poorly. They had the better chances. All they really had to do was hit the ball wide and we were panic stations.
Coleman actually pulled off a good save after some casual defending but let's face it he looks like an outfield player in nets. Someone else mentioned you could see Iredale thinking how poor his positioning is.
Santos sums us up. He is a really really bad captain. He is so casual. Twice there was a goal mouth scramble and he just side foots it back into danger zone. He's so lethargic.
He does typify Bolton. Yes he's good and when things go well he looks great but as soon as we get a bit of pressure he shrinks and shirks.
Hopefully Charles back Tuesday and hoping Baxter back for Derby. God knows what's happened to Ramsay. Rare Liverpool get it wrong but £4M and he can't get a look in. Could have signed Matheson for the same role for free.

Well that was a disaster.
We totally controlled the 1st half but, as usual, our failure to score enough when on top came back to bite us with a dreadful 2nd half defensive display.
We set off well and had most of the possession. The play wasn’t at Barnsley standard as we played our slow passing game but kept possession well.
We were unlucky when Collins hit the bar but it was all pass, pass, pass without really making good chances.
We did though score when Jones broke on the right and put in a centre for Maghoma to shoot home. It was a deserved goal but we got to half time with just 1 goal to show for our dominance.
Second half what a shock!
They kicked off, launched the ball forward, Jones was out jumped for a header, Toal was wrong side of his man but then Coleman needlessly raced from his line which invited the Exeter man to lob him which he did brilliantly.
Worse was to come when Santos went to sleep on a through ball leaving their man clear. Coleman chose not to come and was beaten by a rocket shot from the edge of the area. It was a good shot but it went straight over him. I think a good keeper would have made a good save to that shot.
So we were 2-1 down and we were shattered.
Passing went astray. Defensively, we were dreadful. There were numerous occasions when the ball was in our box and all it needed was a big boot out of the danger area and we kept mis-kicking and giving the ball back to Exeter. It was shambolic defending.
It wasn't just the defence though. We just could not keep the ball. Poor passes everywhere and we rarely got forward.
At this stage, it was looking that Exeter would score the next goal as we were all over the place.
But we somehow survived and gradually created a few bits and pieces.
The manager amazingly took of Collins for Jerome which took out our main chance of a goal.
We eventually got a corner on the right. Sheehan, not for the first time, made a mess of it and over hit it. Iredale, to his credit, stopped the ball going out for a throw and put in a wonderful centre for Toal to head in.
A really poor performance. 2 points from the last 4 away games and Derby away next Saturday. We have now got ourselves into the position of needing to win at Derby.
Marks:-
Coleman - 3 A brilliant save at the end but prior to that the worst 2nd half you could imagine. Invited their player to lob him for the 1st goal and then beaten by a decent shot for the 2nd. He dropped the ball so many times.
Jones - 4 At fault for the goal from the kick-off together with Toal and Coleman. Not as positive as I would have hoped
Toal - 4 So slow for the 1st goal and some dreadful mis-kicks in our penalty area. Good header for the goal.
Santos - 4 Poor. So slow for the 2nd goal and like the rest of the defence mass panic when the ball came in with loads of mis-kicks in our own area.
Iredale - 6 Reasonable defensively and a wonderful centre for the equaliser
Williams - 6 His desire to help the attack left a few gaps down our left defence. Surprised he was subbed unless he was fatigued
Sheehan - 4 He normally runs our game. Today his passing was poor and his corners were dreadful
Maghoma - 6 Looked the most lively of our midfield and took his goal well
Thomason - 6 Good in first half but his passing was off too often
Adeboyejo
Collins - 6 I thought he did OK. Hit the bar. Like Williams, I was surprised he was subbed unless he was fatigued
Bodvarsson - 6 Did Ok but second half, we just lost any idea of proper attacking
Ogbeta - 4 Nearly gave a goal away with his first touch. Poor
Dempsey
Jerome Had a chance in the 98th minute which he managed to pass straight to an Exeter defender.

Do you know what OooooooM You mentioned the hope of Dion’s return above!! If we can’t create enough for Vi and Collins, CJerome or JDB, something tells me that the inclusion of Dion won’t make much difference
Here’s me, along with others, hoping for this magical AC/DC partnership to hit the ground running, I’d be just as happy if someone (of the front men) actually hit the ground and scored
Someone elsewhere mentioned 2 points from 12 away is not promotion form
Sat proudly in 2nd this morning, now we look over our shoulder at Peterborough
Lincoln making Barnsley look exactly what they are, an average league one side
10 man Blackpool battling Portsmouth for a goalless draw Derby doing the business in easy mode
Remaining 3 games in March will decide our fate for sure
Oxford at home Derby away Stevenage away
We struggled to live with Exeters second half onslaught and our back 3/5 looked like they’d never played together, they were awful, as was Coleman, apart from a couple of saves
Awful awful result

Just one more thing
What a master stroke that was by Paul Warne to sign Dwight Gayle Last 2 results for Derby - 3-0 and he’s scored on both occasions
This’ll be a completely different Derby side to the one we beat 2-1
Barkhuizen, Waghorn, Mendez-Lang, Hourihane, Forsyth all Championship players and staring to click at the right time and also if you look at their goal scorers now, they are far and away better than ours are
Derby also went to Exeter and thrashed them 3-0 as well as a 3-0 thumping of Barnsley
Has it occurred to anyone that our only ‘stand out’ (term used loosely) result against any of the top 6-8 sides is that 2-1 win against Derby and we almost fluffed that one
Of course, we have to negotiate Oxford before Derby and I don’t think we’ll fare well against them, even though at home.
No, sadly, I fear a poor return in the next 3 games as I’ve got no confidence in our manager and players ability to stay the distance.

I'm waiting for Jerome's Wilbraham moment. As DavidM said 98th minute last chance of the game, he picks it us he gets into a position to strike. He doesn't. He looks for the pass. It's not on. He then can either have a go(blaze it over and it's likely Full time) OR he can do what he did. A scoop that travelled 5 metres, got no height and went directly to thier centre back.
He's just past it and I don't want to see anymore of him. It's embarrassing how little confidence he has in himself as a striker and he must know himself he should be coaching the B team or playing in the national league for a few more months. Has been.
So that's why I welcome back Dion and even Dan Nlundulu because there should be no place in this squad for Jerome. (Mike Tyson shouldn't be boxing and Jerome shouldn't be in professional football)

And on the last day of the season, Derby will thump the already relegated Carlisle at home, whilst we negotiate free scoring Peterborough away
Thats why we should have won at Wigan when on top That’s why today needed 3 points, when on top That’s why a win at Barnsley was essential That’s why that 3-3 draw v Charlton was a terrible result The 1-1 draws v Northampton and Barnsley Games in hand evaporated and come to nothing
That’s all the reasons why we won’t be getting promoted this term
That’s why I think Evatt is a done deal for me

On paper that Posh away looks tough but in reality they will or could be in a position where play offs secured. No chance of autos. Do they risk any players on the dead rubber or do they focus on play offs. It could be that we play Posh 3 in a row.

That’s a worrying but very possible prospect OoooooM I reiterate my earlier point which proves our lack of winning qualities against top sides “Has it occurred to anyone that our only ‘stand out’ (term used loosely) result against any of the top 6-8 sides is that 2-1 win against Derby and we almost fluffed that one” Sitting second tonight with Derby breathing down our necks would have been a lot better than us having Posh breathing down ours whilst Derby go up a gear and cement the auto spot and we drop to play offs once again

www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/league-one/tablelooking at the lge table, as much as people go on about missed chances, it's that defence which is the clear difference. goals scored. 1st Pboro 71 2nd barnsley 67 then jt 3rd us & derby 66 then pompey 60. goals conceded. : pompey and derby both in the low 30's. the next 3 all in the low 40's i'm always fascinated with that W, D, L, AND FOR AGAINST viewed as like 2 set of weighing scales. keep one side low ..eg goals conceded, and your losses tend to be low. we see that with Pompey. fewest conceded...and fewest losses. just 4 losses. next best Barnsley with 7 ,surprisingly. all rest on 8 or 9. Pompey and Derby with away clean sheets today, admittedly Pompey's aided by blackpool down to 10 men as Rhodes sent off.

www.soccerstats.com/formtable.asp?league=england3form tables not looking great, as you might expect. last 4. we're 16th. 5pt's gained. P'boro won all 4. 12 pt's gained. last 10 . we're 15th. 3 wins. 5 draws, 2 losses. 16 for. 16 against. Pompey in comparison. top . 7 wins. 3 draws. no losses. for 18. against 6. Lincoln surprise in 2nd ...hence the shock today at Barnsley. 6 wins . 4 draws. no losses. things can change. plenty twists and turns in this. doesn't seem that long ago, Pompey dropping points all over after beating us, and P'boro seemed virtually out of it a few weeks ago. Derby had consecutive defeats a couple of games ago. Oxford , next up for us on Tuesday isn't it. they won today IIRC. not great form though. last 4. below us in 18th. and for last 10... below us again in 17th.

Good morning from Rotterdam are we going to regret not getting an out and striker in the window or are we just struggling to get the ball in the box. Hands on heart are we going to get automatic or will we have to settle for playoffs again COYWM
