I've been tempted to do this for a while, but feel it might take up too much of my time. I just want a whole load of recent examples of stupid passing out disasters, that will highlight how utterly senseless this trend/fad is. feel free to add your own examples..with or without video evidence. to load up a video just click the clipboard symbol and post the link. you must hit reply for the full options, not just quick reply. it's very simple.
Colchester are well down Lge 2, and Notts county currently top. but it didn't stop the disaster at 0.05 secs in the vid being the deciding margin in a 5-4 loss.
Liv v Brighton from the wk/end. clanger at 0.04 secs. there's another one at 1.00 with brighton arsing about this time.
again from the weekend. again. very early on in the vid.
Newc v PSG from midweek. clanger at 0.18.

not a clanger vid this one, but Big Sam's regular "no tippy tappy" vid, which sums up the spirit of this thread. fighting hard against the media narrative that Sam refers to that ,there's only one way to play . best bits from about 33.00 to 40.00. nice tale from Big Mick about murdering a team who had massive possession stats against his . mainly in their own third ..just pointless stuff.

2.02 for the clanger
it's not enough to concede within a minute...for 2nd week running...suicidal. you then try again at 0.46. a near miss this time. this is Southampton managed by Russell Martin..possession-obsessionist..... the Green party supporting Vegan from Brighton. which sums him up he just has to do everything different to the old conventional wisdom, just for the sake of it. contrarianism !!

just one more from Soton. calamity klaxon at 1.00 here. www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/66624468stats from that game. 68% possession Soton. 32% for Sunderland. 10 shots on target from Sunderland. just 2 from Soton. lost 5-0. great this progressive football isn't it. bet the Sunderland fans hated watching their own team there.shameful ! .

Some great examples here RTF showing this Barcelona Pep ball up for what it really is.
I hate this style of football I really do
I tried to watch the Big Sam & Mick McCarthy video but I’m struggling. All I can see is a reflection of me in that woman’s forehead

thanks for that one, one2many. good to see the team that did it lost. that's the only way we might get this madness stopped, when teams start realising it's costing them games. not one of the examples i've listed so far did the team win the game, in fact most times they lost it. only the Brighton v Liv game did they avoid defeat, but fittingly as they both dropped a clanger.
this one above only from yesterday...a near miss from Arsenal. at 0.32. Citeh only had one shot on target all game, created very little. biggest chance from clangers. there's a stat used in tennis...." UNFORCED ERRORS" that i always like. eliminate errors and just get the ball back over the net. don't hit it out, don't hit the net. make the opponent play and make them beat you. don't hand it to them on a plate.

In the interest if fairness think we should be posting the clips of all the times passing it out from the back works and the team go on masterpiece play and score the perfect goal or create a clear cut chance.
Oh wait. It doesn't happen. Or once a season.
Yeah I don't get it. So the theory. The opponents will push up, we expose the gaps and then pass round them. So they will all advance and when we get the ball in thier half they will all be out at sea in our half and we can tappedy tap the ball between ourselves in thier half and score from an open goal?
Ever happened even once?

Ever happened even once? I logged on to post exactly the same! i.e we should be fair and post videos of when a goal is scored by passing out this way. Great minds.......
I can't think of an example at the moment but will be alert to post if something comes up
I think this topic could be expanded to corner kick routines where instead of putting the ball into the box, two players pass it around in the corner before invariably passing it all the way back to the goalkeeper because the defence rushes out to close them down.

Brian Clough's rule to success. stick to the basics and get specialists for the job. get keepers who make saves, not good with their feet. if they can do both well fine, but don't prioritise the latter. i.e Crellin ! Defenders head it and kick it. no emphasis on passing despite Cloughie's own reputation for good footie. the footie can come from other areas.
and this next vid, is his attitude to unnecessary risks being taken by one of his players.
back in the 1st vid above, re Cloughies rules....wingers beat your man and get crosses in ....but does this still work in modern football. of course it does. here's Atletico Madrid beating Real madrid from 2 weeks ago.
3 crosses and 3 headers. goals at 0.30 , 1.35 & 5.35. how many headers do we have from open play ( in the lge ). 0 is the answer ! the more and more dopey managers prioritise centre backs who can play rather than defend, the more you can exploit their weakness. just look at the hopeless defending on that last goal at 5.35. freeze it at 5.32 Alaba is 2 or 3 yds behind his own defensive line playing everyone onside. then he zooms forward for about 2 secs, vacating tons of room to his man ,Morata. then changes his mind again & suddenly decides to mark him closer, then he still manages to lose him and hilariously blame someone else !?

thanks for that one Rioch. that 1st one from Soton is horrific. centre back dallies turns back to keeper. surely at that point, you might think this is not going to plan i'll hit it long and at least we'll bypass these 4 or 5 players that have pushed up to press us. but no... stick to the tried and failed stuff of panicky passes....that just get progressively worse. you can sense them thinking by that point, "don't give it to me" . that Soton one is even more laughable in that they were relegated last season. rock bottom. that game was late in the season 28/5/23, so they're not exactly flushed with confidence, and yet they still think they can play thru' Liverpools famous ultra high press. staggering. here's part 2 of your vid. all of these are fairly recent...from last season...we're not going back years and years.

just 0.04 secs in from just 2 weeks ago. another mindlessly stupid shocker. you could see that one coming a mile off. just kept creeping forward and you could tell he had no clue what he wanted to do with it. he's not shaping his body to protect the ball .
maybe the managers who love these crazy risks could start getting their keepers to adopt Rene Higuita style methods.... keeper vacates his goal to dribble into opposition half . main dribbles at 1.19, 1.43 , 3.08 , 3.30 , 3.44 & 5.30.

No coincidence that the Pep - Arteta connection will yield a few of those cock-ups, as proven by David Raya on a few occasions. I bet he never fouled up like that when he played for Blackburn
