Thought I’d kick this one off early, like, really early, like, 43 days early
Our first game at home versus the Milton Keynes Dons So what do I know about them? Nowt yet, other than
They finished last season with a thumping 3-0 defeat to relegated Rochdale
Top scorers Cameron Jerome 15 Scott Fraser 14 Will Grigg 8 (4 in one game)
Played 46 Won 18 Drew 11 Lost 17 For 64 Against 62 Points 65 and finished 13th
Tough opener I’d say but we can win this

Crikey rftr, this certainly is early, it will be obsolete by the time the game comes round. I think we’ll need threads for all the friendlies before this one but I suspect it’s just because you’re getting excited by all the signings IE has made. At least we won’t be having to wait for transfer deadline day to see who we’ve got, unlike we do normally. I’m a little more positive than you about the game though and think this will be a nice gentle way to ease ourselves in with 3 points towards our promotion push.

I’ve decided to stick my neck out and use the current euphoria of the England success at the Euro’s to make my early prediction and keep up with the positivity with our beloved Trotters
Bolton Wanderers will be promoted to the Championship in 2022 ⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️ COYWM Wish I had a BWFC emoji

I third that, especially now we’re out of embargo and can pay loan fees and can hopefully borrow a quality young PL or Championship striker. I’ve been struck how much the England team has played like we do and if our wingers can do the business, I can’t see us having too much trouble but we do need to be seeing teams off when we’re on top instead of relying on all the squeaky bum 1-0 wins of last year.

I’ve been struck how much the England team has played like we do Made me laugh did that whites... I'm sure in the past that you were complaining about BWFC passing the ball around at the back and boring the pants off us all. Mind you, I'm not disagreeing with you, in part anyway. They were extremely lucky against Denmark, with an o.g. and a fluke penalty, which was saved and deflected back to Kane... typical Bolton, or is it typical England... lucky bar stewards... Evatt for England... he's luckier than a four leaf clover.

Ha, I had to think about it again when I wrote it wots, it sounds rather preemptions but I’m getting a bit more aware of the advantages of playing it from the back, as long as you have the players to do it and can then quickly turn it into attack. My problem with us last year, was that we tended to drop the tempo too far and too often look to play the ball backwards instead of forwards when ther appeared to be good attacking options. When a player receives the ball, I like to see his first touch to be a forward one and not a backwards one and we did that too many times. Anyway, the best teams do seem to have this approach of tiring out the opposition by keeping the ball more until an opportunity comes and it certainly makes for interesting comment.
As for England against Denmark, I think you’re being a bit hard. We had numerous chances to score which were scorned and Harry Kane should already have had a much clearer penalty given earlier. The defender couldn’t avoid the own goal, the cross was so perfect but you have to agree that had he not slid in, Sterling couldn’t miss anyway. There also won’t be many games where Schmeical would do better either, he was outstanding, so all in all I don’t think anyone could question England were much the better team and fully deserved to win? Just one more hurdle now and I can’t wait to see us turn over the Azuri tomorrow and end their long, 33 game unbeaten run in good style. They were lucky to win against Spain and frankly haven’t impressed in any of their games but I think their lucks about to run out big style tomorrow when they come up against the new kings of European football.

So According to Darragh McAnthony (Peterborough Chairman) he thinks Bolton could be the dark horse to promotion this season, but he also states that if MK Dons get themselves a prolific marksman, they would be his hot choice having studied ‘data’ on them
So perhaps our season opener could be a lot more difficult to win than first thought🤔
Sod that, we are winning this game. In front of a good 10,000+ home crowd!!
Only thing I’ll add to all of this, we have to be fitter, sharper and not afraid to mix it. We have to put an early stamp on proceedings and let the league know we are here to compete

Think we're top 5 in terms of bookies odds, fan base and size of club - whatever thats worth. I wouldnt say thats a dark horse pick. Chestnut at best. My thought is that as it stands we wont be among that top tier pick but will be midtablers though we havent got any loans in and I cant beleive we wont use that to max so my opinion could well change before kick off in 3 weeks.

Why the doubts OM, we’ll easily be in the top tier in L1, even with what we’ve got now but I can’t believe that there isn’t another goal getter out there that IE is working on. For me, goals is our only weakness in this squad although if other players upped their returns from defence and midfield, we might not need a top striker. Hopefully DP will add some and I have a feel that Sarce may contribute more this year if he stays fit and I’d also like to think Dapo and George will chip in with a few. I’m really confident primarily because I don’t think at least half the teams in there are any better than what was in L2 last year. If Parky can do it with his collection of misfits, I’m sure IE can with this current bunch.

Everyone seems to be thinking if the wonder game at Crawley but forgetting that Isgrove looked very one dimensional. Sarcevic looked like Bryan Robson that day but for 8 months looked like a podgy journeyman. Barrow and Carlisle came to the Unibol and gave us a fright. Has the team improved so much, in fact can Doyle hold up. 34 now. Last league 1 side we had Ameobi, ALF, Madine, Clough partially, Spearing, Wheater. Premier league experience. Not to mention Adam Armstrong(was he that season?) I'm not saying no way, im just saying maybe not....or rather bit more to do.

Not going to be easy of course OM but I just have absolute faith in IE to not only recruit the right players but ensure they continue to perform. Actually, other than ALF, I wouldn’t put any of the others you named in our team next year for various reasons, Adam Armstrong excepted, because I’m sure this team will play as a team, something Parkys sides never seemed to do. Time will tell but successive promotions is not beyond us and I’m confident we’ll be back where we should at least be, in the Champuonship. The question will be, which two come with us? I fancy Sunderland under new ownership and Ipswich who seem to be splashing the cash but with Charlie Wyke ( I’d have loved him here) up top Wiggin could be worth a shout. As long as we’re one of the three, I don’t care who the others are.

Confirmed today that Russel Martin has left MK Dons for a 3 year contract at Swansea! I wonder if it will have an effect on the players when we meet them next week? Surely it can’t help but will it be enough to tip the game in our favour? I’m not saying we need it to but I shouldn’t imagine it will help their morale?

It might just add a little bit more pressure to the minds of our players that there’s many reasons why we should be winning this game, most notably that we are at home, proper crowd (circa 12000) Ian’s first real game in front of fans, they’ve just been hammered 5-0 in their last friendly, they now have no manager. All these small factors could play a part but I’m sure Evatt will have them in good shape, physically and mentally to take the points
So Come on you White Men Let’s do this
I’ll even take a 1-0 again😬😬
