probably too late for this thought with possibly a true left wing back in Declan John coming but i'll post anyway :
INVERTED WINGERS....
classic example...Ashley Young right footed winger playing left wing. used to terrorise us at Villa park. Hickman could have easily been given a try out there. similar swirly crosses he does. at least it's just a wingback/winger swapping sides. not playing a right back as left winger.
Freedman of course completely messed up the concept by putting right footed Chungy on the left for no good reason. it never worked. he never looked comfy. he persisted in taking one of our best players and making it into a weakness. classic bad management.
Lennon did a good job early on ...fixed this issue..gave him some love and he was soon back to his best.

( not really related to this thread..but i'll just bung it here ) .
George Taft. I know you've got to be careful with highlight reels making everyone look decent, but quite impressive this. you can assess the basic qualities.. for a big unit, he's pretty nippy over that first couple of yards. much better on the deck than i expected.

He’s left footed too rtf, so why hasn’t he at least been given a chance instead of all the right footers Evatt’s been favouring out of position on that side? Obviously we don’t see them in training but I find it hard to believe Taft isn’t a better option than some who’ve had game time and at least he has experience at this level. I suppose clips can make any player look a world beater but as you say, as well as looking better in the air, he looks much more mobile and less cumbersome than Santos and Greening. Like Darcy and a few others, IE obviously doesn’t fancy him so it’s likely he’ll be gone if Evatt can find someone to take him.

Yes, disappointing but I suppose in Evatt we must trust??

Must have got on the wrong side of someone. Let's see how he fares at Scunny. It beggars belief though that Crellin is not the first out the door. What now for Alexander, does he have game time anywhere?

Well, Cox from Scunny certainly gave a good review of Taft... someone to regret? Judging by the video, he can certainly play. At least it's only a loan, but for me it's one step forward and two steps back.

We didn’t really see enough of Taft to properly make a decision on him but from what we’ve seen of the others I can’t believe he wouldn’t have done at least as well. I’m not convinced by Santos to be honest, he just doesn’t impress aerially in either box, regularly out jumped by much smaller players and is too easily rounded by nippy players. He may improve but I don’t see any sign of it at the moment. Delaney frustrates because he’s prone to giving away too many free kicks in dangerous positions and doesn’t push forward enough. Maybe when he has John at the side of him it might improve him and of course we also have Greenidge to sub for him when needed. I think it’s a shame Taft hasn’t been given more of a chance because I’m sure he’d have been an asset. Perhaps if he performs at Scunny he will come back for next season since his contract is two years. Personally I’d say the same with Gordon because he’s still young and does have some potential to improve going forward and would probably benefit from watching Declan John. Anyway, I wish Taft well at Scunny and hope he proves Evatt wrong in letting him go.
