Bitter disappointment from a game that offered so much but delivered nothing. How could Evatt not motivate his team, in the biggest game of the season, to go out there and take the game by the scruff of It's neck! Where did his tactics come from when instructing his squad to go out there and keep the tempo down and invite the opposition to come onto you. How much motivation does a team need when running out onto the hallowed turf?
Biggest game of the season and he got it completely wrong. Oxford came out to make a point, sadly, that point was how inadequate we were. We should have been out of the blocks at the first whistle and taken the game to them. Instead, we tried to sit back and hit them on the counter, we didn't, they did. Still, got to praise Santos for his stunning goal, hope It's his last!

Haven’t watched it won’t watch it ever totally and utterly disgusted after all the hype throughout the week and the report says we didn’t have a shot on target I’m not even surprised so I won’t comment as I have no words for it.

Plymouth fans giving us some full on stick about us goading them after the Pizza Cup win and how we claimed we’d be taking an easy 6 points off them when we get up…..
Those goads have well and truly backfired on us
I’m so embarrassed, disgruntled, disappointed, depressed, thoroughly miffed off.
I’ve never been so fed up since Bristol City thrashed us in 86 at Wembley back in May 86. At least when Trashmere did us, we gave a decent account of ourselves and still lost, today was a full on shambles that needs many many questions asked
Make no mistake, this after match enquiry needs to happen and a root and branch clear out must start, but how will this happen when Neil Hart Chris Markham and Sharon Briton thinks the sun shines out of Evatt’s backside

Still think those early relatively unpunished tackles by Brannagan set the tome for our defeat. Maghoma was never in the game again, and Sheehan was totally shackled. If Sheehan is thus held, that's the end of our play. A central defensive midfielder has been a necessity all season. I certainly feel Evatt should have made changes after 20 minutes when he saw how the game was going. Shame that Williams didn't make it again, and Morley should have featured. Regarding Santos holding onto the ball for too long at the back, maybe he was looking for runs off the ball which were not being made. If Sharon intends to keep Evatt there must be a meeting of minds on a revision of the Evatt Way, with the introduction of stronger wing backs, that holding midfielder, and greater understanding of how to deal with physical sides, and a realisation of which current members of the squad are not up to it in League One. Today we were certainly outthought and outfought. Quite an achievement to draw strength form a 0-5 defeat. Maybe some coaching from Wigan, Blackpool, and Stevenage took place behind the scenes.

The plain fact proved again today for me is that everyone must play the Evatt way, no adapting real time just keep doing what you’ve been told. It was perfectly evident after the first few minutes that Oxfords high press was going to curtail our passing out from the back but did we adapt? No. Baxter continued passing to Santos who continued to saunter around then pass sideways, then get it back, pass to the other side and so on. Utter shite. Not one player on the pitch with the guts or sense to do something different.even at half time nothing changes and that definitely is Evatt’s fault. We don’t have one player with the strength of character to run a game, to kick backsides or dictate to others and there’s only one reason for that, it’s because Evatt doesn’t like players who have a mind of their own. The most conscientious thing for Evatt to do now is admit he’s failed and do the honourable thing and resign. If I thought he’d actually learn from today I’d will him to stay but he won’t and next season will just be the same old, same old. Just go now Ian please because that today was a new low in our clubs history for me.

seen a fair few bring this moment up. www.skysports.com/watch/video/sports/football/13131374/still-work-to-do-jobi-mcanuff-questions-bolton-player-celebrations-after-semi-final-winsounds like Oxford players saw this and used it as motivation. ( see tweet below) imagine Roy keane doing punditry on this too. he'd be of the same mentality. he didn't like Brazilian players over-celebrating goals at the last world cup. he got stick for being a bit too harsh. and some were saying...oh that's just cultural thing..the way they do things. i was screaming at the tele at the time...really??. don't remember Pele, Zico, Garrincha, Socrates, Romario, Ronaldo etc ever getting into prolonged dances after any of their goals. Brazil went out a round or 2 later, failing to make the semis and having not won the WC for over 20 yrs. ..or even made a final.

We all saw the game the same way so nothing to add on that debacle.
I will however add my voice to those calling for Evatt to go. His system is not imaginative and effective, it is boring and predictable.

Many have picked up on the ridiculous 0 shots on target. equally as bad is the 5 shots off target in 100 mins. an average of 1 shot every 20 mins !! unfathomably bad... but not entirely a surprise in some senses. Managers with any sense would be thinking....feed you're best players... ie ACDC . Evatt balll...fart arse around with the ball at the back with your worst players. there was a good call on RADIO Manc saying...good football is playing in your opponents half. pinning them in and having threats/shots...getting them on the rack. yesterday, it was in our own half most of the time messing around at the back . of course we can rarely play the first lot of stuff. it's a Santos protection racket. he wasn't fit and couldn't get back if he was on the halfway line. so whole routine is set up to suit him. Barnsley away suited him. they just pumped some long balls into the box, and he heads 'em clear. away at Posh he was totally exposed as shown in my vid for that thread. Barnsley home (2nd leg) yet more clangers from Santos. off form and carrying injuries. why was he picked. back to the low shot count. i'll dig out something from the overpassing thread about those 2 times this season Livpool went mad with crazy high shot count just for comparison. edit : these are the 2, Liv v Newc www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/6781859834 shots. 15 on target. and this is not against a relegation team. a top 8 team . a shot every 2 or 3 mins. shot on target every 6 mins !!! as Jack Dearden has rightly said for a long while, and i've been saying even longer i'm sure.... so many times we're taking that extra touch, extra pass, trying to score the perfect goal. www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/live/c1410e1l857tLiv v Chelsea. just to prove it wasn't a one off. 28 shots .13 on target. again against a top 6 or 7 team. not releg fodder.

We all saw the game the same way so nothing to add on that debacle. I will however add my voice to those calling for Evatt to go. His system is not imaginative and effective, it is boring and predictable. I can’t entirely agree about the system o2m, when it’s played properly it’s thrilling and productive but there are times when you can’t play that way because the other team stops you. Yesterday Oxford turned up knowing they had to fight to win a football match whereas we turned up believing we’d already won. That’s down to both management and the players own attitude and we don’t have players with attitude. Look at Cameron Brannagan who right from the off was into our players because he knew if he stood off them they’d get murdered. Every one of Oxfords players knew their job and were there to fight like tigers and they did whilst we peed about at the back, never won a challenge and made no attempt to adapt. We lost to a team inferior in quality but miles ahead in attitude and mindset and coached to know exactly what they were doing. If Evatt hadn’t learned that from the Peterborough games then that says something about him too. despite an appalling first half we didn’t change anything at the break. Same eleven, including an injured Paris, same slowly slowly foot on the ball shite at the back from our leaderless captain and still not a single attempt to up the tempo. I’d really love to know what Evatt tells them at half time because if I’d been manager to a gutless first half like that their feet wouldn’t have touched the ground, yet nothing, nowt, nada changed and Oxford must have been amazed at how easy it was. It was embarrassing frankly and all of that can only be laid at the door of one man and thats Evatt. I think yesterday was a turning point. I’m not sure he can ever recover the faith of he fans after that, he certainly can’t for me. I’ve been well behind him up to now but that performance yesterday was just unacceptable on so many levels and I genuinely think it’s time for new blood and a clear out.
