Here we are – the biggest game for a few years.
We have to be confident as we are definitely a better team than Oxford BUT the nerves are kicking in.
We can play so well – Papa Johns last year – and then we can have disasters, often when the defence collapses.
The side more or less picks itself.
Baxter,
Jones, Santos, Toal
Dacres-Cogley, Sheehan, Thomason. Maghoma, Williams
Collins, Charles.
Subs will be interesting.
We 100% need a keeper on the bench
Iredale and Ogbeta will be there, as will Dempsey and Morley
Which leaves 2 places for Jerome, Adeboyejo, Bodvarsson and Nlundulu. Jerome will definitely be there so there’s a decision to be made. I would go Bodvarsson but I think the manager will choose Adeboyejo.
One point that I made earlier in the week which I need to repeat:- unless we are winning by 2 or 3 goals we must not do our usual substitutions of the strikers.
Imagine going into extra time and maybe penalties without Charles and Collins. Unthinkable.
Even though I am massively nervous, we should win. All week I have BWFC 1 Oxford 0 in my head so let’s go for that. A nervy 1-0 win.

Davidm, I mentioned when I started this thread about keeping AC/DC on for the entirety, that should not change but I do hope it’s not a game where they freeze and both have stinkers as I don’t want to be reliant on Vic and Jerome. These 11 players can be McAteer’s, McGinlays, Brannigans and Thommo’s for future conversations if they can pull it off and I’m sure they can, but this is where Evatt has to see every minute detail in preparation and make the right in game changes where necessary. He must not be out thought by their gaffer and the players must not be out fought on the turf. Perhaps it would make sense to relax the player and stick the Bolton v Reading game on the telly for them to soak up and ‘drink it in’ with what it will mean to become a Bolton Wanderers legend COYWM Let’s do this and no messing ⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️

I think unless we are a good 3 goals ahead David, everyone would probably agree with keeping AC and DC on the pitch until the closing stages but if we’re only one or even two goals ahead then as you say they must stay on for extra time and potential penalties. Sadly that’s not Ian’s way and if we aren’t ahead then I can see him changing it up with his subs. As you say, that’s where the interesting decision lies. Does he have a keeper, surely he must and as you say Ogbeta, Iredale, Morley and Demps are certs but assuming Victor is also there will he pick Cameron ahead of Dan or Bod? That’s a brave one if he does because I don’t see any of the three still being here next year if we make it. As it happens, I’d go with CJ myself because he’s been so good lately. I haven’t been nervous all week but it does seem to have dragged and will even more tomorrow with the kick off not until 4:15. Anyway, we should win this and I’m hoping without too much stress. We deserve it despite throwing so many points away so fingers crossed we don’t slip up again at the death? 😁

Watched Leeds v Norwich last night
If we can be 50% of what Leeds were with the players we have, we should have no trouble.
They were electric On the front foot an Norwich couldn’t handle the speed of their breakaways.
That’s how we need to be.
If we piss about and play keep ball (possession) it’s going to be a very very scary ride, but if he lets AC/DC do what they hell they need to do to get us over the line, with some solid support from Mag and Josh then we should reign supreme.
What side turns up is another issue, I can only pray it’s the one that did Oxford 5-0 last time around

Those of a nervous disposition ..... ( that's you Rioch and OohMac ! ) , please look away now. top EFL tipster predicts our play off final to go to extra time . it's not squeaky bum time, more like Squelchy bum time...💩🧻🚽 Lge 1 play off preview starts about 38.30 in vid below. can understand him saying we were underwhelming in the 2nd leg against a rudderless (on paper) & out of form Barnsley. came very very close to the " taxi for Evatt " moment. but Oxford only had 1 shot on target in their 2nd leg and that was from a pen, so you can hardly call them comfortable winners in that tie. he seems to be picking a bet for value, rather then any true prediction of the end result. we have far more match-winners in the team. Posh would have scared me more as they'd have had a fair few themselves. but these lot don't.

Ha, definitely do not want extra time. I was thinking before about who our five penalty takers would be.
Charles (most certainly would be taken off by this time) 1. Morley yes. Probably on a sub. Best taker anyway, happy. Collins - Taken off? 2. Sheehan - poor against Barnsley. 3. Jerome 4. Adeboyejo 5. Dempsey
Well apart from Morley I wouldn't have much faith in the others. Oxford should be well practised, they get penalties every week.
Not sure if Baxter has faced one this season? Minds gone.
Anyway two thoughts. 1.) Don't let it go to pens please. 2.) Should there be a rule change that allows anyone who has played a part the chance to take a penalty. That to me sounds fairer than subbing on players at 120m to kick a single ball a la Southgate.
OohMac, stop talking about Penalties. It will be alright on the night. 3-1. Charles, Collins, Maghoma and a late consultation for them(probably pen). Ironically a Branagan penalty at Wembley that we don't cheer(if you follow what I mean)

Soton 3-0 up near end of game. got his Leeds one right.

will Evatt get his 3rd promotion. 1 for Barrow , and 2 with us. ?
i've done a bit of research on manager promotions these last few years, as i always find it interesting.
Darren Ferguson has 5. 1 with Donny. 4 with Posh. 1 of those from lge 2, other 3 all in lge 1. Paul Warne now up to 4. 3 with Rotherham. and now 1 with Derby. 3 of those are via automatics. great achievement with Rotherham who aren't really that big a cheese in Lge 1.
Parky got another of course. now on 5. 2 back to back with Wrexham. 1 Bradford. 1 Colchester and 1 with us.
Paul Cook got another one. now on 4. amazingly all 4 he's took his clubs up as Champions. Chesterfield this yr in national lge. Chesterfield from way back lge 2. also Pompey , and a lge 1 Champ with Wigan. ridiculous guys like that having to go down to non lge to get a sniff when you see some of the plonkers & no marks getting lge jobs.
Chris wilder, Simon Grayson , NIGEL ADKINS..ALL HAVE 4.
Neil Warnock the big daddy of them all with a record 8 promotions.
1 86.87 scaroboro into football lge 2 89./90 notts county from 3rd tier to tier 2 3 90/91 notts cty into Div 1- top tier 4 94/95 huddfld tier 3 to 2 5 95/96 plymouth tier 3 to tier 2 6 05/06 sheff utd to prem fin 2nd 7 10/11 qpr to prem as champs 8 17/18 cardiff to prem auto place- 2nd
graham taylor and dave bassett have 7 .

So, not a lot of practice for them. For what it’s worth, We’ve had quite a few more penalty takers - mostly successful. Even Sheehan’s saved penalty was scored on the follow up, although obviously, that’s not allowed during a shootout.

It ain’t going to penalties and it ain’t even going to extra time because Wanderers will either win it within normal time or blow it. We’ve slipped up a few times this season but I don’t expect us to do it again today so it’s a win for Wanderers and look forward to Championship football next season.
