Last league game of the season and I honestly don’t know what to expect
Put on a Portsmouth style battle and we’re home and dry for a credible 3rd placed finish and who knows, could the miracle still be on!!!!
I very much doubt it mind and watching Derby’s players after their scrape past Cambridge and you’d think they’d just got into the Champions League Final the way they were celebrating, but the opposite to that Pompey battle would be to put in a Shrewsbury/Stevenage effort
We’ll know more of what we need to do (for 3rd) after Posh take on Cheltenham tonight, a game I see Posh easily hammering them and sending Town down. All this crap from Fergie jnr about chopping and changing to rest players, that is purely gamesmanship and probably aimed solely at our door to unstable our preparations going into these last 3 games.
I can just hear Darren now “Dad, how do I do it like you used to do it” “It’s easy son, just go on all media platforms and start spouting shite, it’ll get the others worried”
Don’t fall for it Evatt
I can easily see Posh thumping us 3-1, us thumping them 3–1, but I can also see a very dull drawn out lazy affair where players can’t be bothered getting stuck in, with one eye on a trip to Wembley
Let’s see eh!!
COYWM Let’s do this⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️
Oh, by the way, I do notice that it has gone ‘un-noticed’ that on the 7th April, it was this forum’s 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉TENTH ANNIVERSARY 🎉 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉

In fact I’m hoping that IE does the same on Saturday which for me is now a dead rubber even if Posh manage a win tonight. Does it really make any difference 3rd or 4th in the great scheme of things? Not really we know we’re at home in the second leg whoever we end up playing so surely given our injury record and disciplinary problems it can’t be worth risking it? Is there really any chance of Derby slipping up at home to Carlisle? I don’t think so so let’s start with our key players on the bench ready to come on if a miracle might be about to happen but being practical I’d save my best for the play offs and leave the rest to risk losing players as they battle for a top six place. 🙂

For me it’s a free hit as it doesn’t matter what happens Saturday as it’s to little to late it’s pointless getting all excited and up for it now we should have done it weeks ago COYWM

Or, if Posh are happy with 4th after tonight and they continue to play the stiffs on Saturday and we batter them 5-0 and Derby lose 1-0, again does that put us up on goals scored? Can one imagine if Carlisle went cavalier and actually got the win to send their fans home happier than expected🤔🤔🤔 Straaaaaaanger things have happened

Well Posh are out of it and they can't even play for 3rd now.
We shouldn't worry too much it's all about fine tuning for the playoffs but we have aim to win. If at half time we know Derby are 2 up then we can make the changes.
Imagine if Derby have conceded a penalty, goes down to 10 and we field a B team?
Aim for 3-0 win and see what's what?

It’s a dilemma for sure OM and whilst we still have that very outside chance of an upset Posh no longer have and since there’s surely no chance of them beating us by 7 they’ve absolutely nothing to play for now so why risk anybody? I suppose if we got 2-0 up at half time and Derby still hadn’t scored the nerves for them start jangling and that’s when mistakes can happen. I still think that’s massively unlikely and a fair amount of wishful thinking so I’d go with my original point of playing some of our squad players rather than risk the likes of Dion, Rico and Paris. At least we still have an interest which clearly Posh now don’t so that may affect both their team and their crowd on Saturday and if Fergie rested players tonight I can’t see him risking them this weekend either. Anybody seen that fat lady? 😁

Imagine half time we're 2 or 3 up and they're 0-0. They then start feeling the pressure and also start to ask to stick with what they've got our twist and try and get a goal.
There's zero pressure on Carlisle and thier fans, who I assume will be in good numbers. They won't want to be going in the last 20m goalless.

Do we also have to take into account the Paul Simpson factor, former player and assistant manager who will surely not want to deny Derby their opportunity? Carlisle have nothing but pride to play for and probably just want to see the back of the season so how much effort will they really put into a game that means nothing to them? We can all hope something strange can happen but in reality we all suspect we’re whistling in the wind. What sickens you is the points we’ve thrown away to be in this position, not just once but several times since January. Yes we’ve had injuries but so have Derby so we can’t blame that. We’ve just not been good enough and I think that will be proved on Saturday when Derby clinch their place back in the Championship. ☹️

Actually expect Derby to thump Carlisle and thump them well. Some players playing for Championship recognition so they’ll be knocking their pipe out to show Warne they’ve still got it
Losing becomes a bad habit and dropping players could really back fire on Fergie. If we do them on Saturday with their weakened side, it won’t go down well with their fans and it’s also just that little bit harder to turn losses into wins, especially when your next opponent are the other play off contenders
So 3rd and 4th are now sorted but 5th and 6th positions could get very interesting indeed
Barnsley v Northampton Lincoln v Portsmouth Exeter v Oxford Reading v Blackpool
If Oxford and Blackpool both win then Barnsley and Lincoln also have to win as a draw might not be enough. Could easily see Lincoln winning and Barnsley dropping out after a home draw enabling Oxford to nip in

Understand that although there were many changes by Fergie last night it actually consisted mainly of the defence and most of the forwards still played. That seems strange and it will be interesting to see what he does on Saturday. You’d have thought he’d have wanted a strong side against Cheltenham if he considered like us that he still had a chance of making the automatics? Clearly he didn’t and decided to rest players after a busy run of games and have them fresh for the play offs. Can’t blame him for that because the likelihood of Derby not taking anything from their game is small. Will Evatt do the same or give it one last go? Since we’ve not had that intensive run of games and with key players needing game time after injuries I’d expect him to field a strong side whatever the risks. If it’s going badly for us at Derby he can always switch some at HT. I’ve given up trying to call who we’ll get in the play offs and will just leave it to Saturday to find out but I would hope to avoid Blackpool. 🥴

Shouldn't the league be looking to punish Peterborough for dropping 7 regular starters? Similarly if Derby or ourselves attempt the same. The integrity of the competition has to count for something and Peterborough have thumbed their nose at it. There should be at least a big fine and to be fair to other teams a points deduction sufficient to see them drop out of the top six.

Completely agree WSL They absolutely knew that beating Cheltenham and Bolton would possibly put them level on points with Derby (assuming Derby were to lose) but they’d never be able to overhaul the goal difference, meaning that winning both their last games would have been pointless in any case, so why not drop your best players Next question is, what if Posh went all the way and went up, would we have any grounds to challenge what they have done? Happen Fergie Snr has been advising Fergie Jnr on the dark arts of cheating
