Fans hoping we don’t get Blackpool in the play offs!!! We’ve got our wish
On our second half performance here, we might have fared better if we did have the Tangerines as this is not the best (2nd Half) performance you want going into the last 2 play off games
Totally pedestrian 2-0 up 3-2 down
Bloody awful Where did this come from at 2 -0 up
This is a terribly morale sapping collapse
Back to 3-3 and it’s getting like a Sunday League kick about
Dacres Cogley is officially crap

Yes Barnsley again. The one team I wanted to avoid. Yes David and I can’t say I’m unhappy about that as I think (touch wood) that Barnsley are the weakest of the play off contenders and after last year this is a good opportunity for the players to make up for their atrocious showing last year. I think once Derby scored today our game became a total irrelevance so I wouldn’t read too much into the performance. Bring it on now I’m really looking forward to the play offs.

A terrible second half collapse after an excellent start.
Defensively, we just fell apart in the 2nd half – we gave up marking and were so slow to react to Peterborough’s breaks.
We started tremendously. Charles had a header well saved after a Dempsey cross and then Dempsey headed in following a corner.
Then we got the penalty which Charles scored well.
So 2-0 up after 8 minutes and well on top and, in reality, we stayed on top for the whole of the 1st half apart from a break where Jones was skinned down the wing and their man put the ball past Baxter but also wide of the post.
Second half was a complete change. Defensively we stood off and gave Peterborough space to attack.
Toal was caught with a ball over the top and he and Santos appealed for offside. I think VAR might well have given it but we stopped and, therefore, were out of position when the ball was played in for an easy tap in. If Santos had carried on playing instead of appealing, he would have been in a position to clear the centre.
We were then caught again and this time I am sure their man was offside. A quick ball through found their man in acres of space but he took his chance well.
We were gone at this stage. We were all over the show.
Jones then hit the ball out of defence straight to a Peterborough man and they played it well down the left. The centre came in and we were so slow in reacting and allowed a simple tap in.
Our defence was shambolic in the 2nd half.
Luck then played a part for us. Ogbeta slung a centre in which their centre half swung at and totally missed. I think it just hit Jerome and went in, although he may claim that he meant it.
The result was academic at this stage because of Derby’s win.
Overall, some fine attacking in the 1st half and some woeful defending in the 2nd half.
And then Northampton spoiled it with an equaliser at Barnsley and we finish up with them again in the play-offs. The one team I wanted to avoid.
Marks:-
Baxter - 5 A few shaking moments. Fisting the ball away from a corner when he should have caught it. Conceding a corner when the ball was going wide.
Dacres-Cogley - 5 Not bad going forward but defensively left acres of space.
Jones - 5 Needlessly gave the ball away for the 3rd goal. Outpaced too often
Santos - 6 Some good strong defending but stood and appealed for offside for their 1st goal and, therefore, was out of position when the ball came in
Toal - 5 Badly at fault for the 1st goal and got turned a few times
Williams - 7 Some good attacking play
Sheehan - 6 OK but couldn’t dominate and hopelessly caught for the 2nd goal
Dempsey - 6 Started tremendously. Took his goal well but faded badly in the 2nd half
Thomason - 5 Much too many poor passes. Gave the ball away often
Charles - 6 Started well and looked sharp. Like others, he faded badly in the 2nd half
Collins - 6 Couldn’t quite get into the game
Morley - 6 Ok but again a few iffy passes
Jerome - 6 In the right place for his goal
Nlundulu - 5 Had a couple of half chances which he messed up badly
Ogbeta - 6 Good centre for the 3rd goal
Taylor - 6

Decent report that davidm
Thing is though, if Posh can bring that to the table in a meaningless nondescript game, (to come back from 2 down and almost beat us 3-2) then what can they do at Wembley IF we get past our bogie side Barnsley
If we lose to this Devaney chap that’s just stood in since Collins departure, then Evatt really does need to be shown the door

What’s all this Barnsley bogey team stuff? They’ve imploded since we played them last and there’s almost zero confidence over here that they’ll get anything off us in the play offs. Surely we couldn’t have picked a weaker opponent and if we don’t beat these then we should pack up. The consensus seems to be that 2 or 3 are leaving anyway so they’re not unduly bothered so everything’s in our favour surely?

That’s how the script should be W63, but you’ve seen enough all season to know, we don’t do scripts!!! Jeez, reading some of the Barnsley threads and they are dreading playing us They don’t rate this Devaney chap, think he plays long hoof ball with no end product All the same, Oakwell will be packed and we’ll have slightly over 2000 fans in there. Will we give them another early 2 goal gift or will it be a drab goal less affair Gifted Posh 3 terrible goals today, anymore of that ‘gifting’ and we are done for We need a Portsmouth style ‘have a go at em’ performance, topped off with a bit of that first half today. Start how we did in the second half and we’ll be playing Birmingham, Huddersfield, Rotherham, Stockport, Wrexham next term, then it really will be a much stronger league

Santos absolutely all over the place. start at 0.43. freeze it there. Santos behind his man & in position. yes Jones gets done too. but keep your eyes on captain marvel . he gets beat for pace easily. if the ball is squared at the right moment, Santos's man has a tap in. to 0.53 now and their 1st goal. agree with DavidM's comments. if Santos doesn't stop to appeal, he can deal with it. lazy defending. at 0.55 Santos still has a yard on the scorer ( his man ), move it on a sec, RS does a comedy double-take towards his man.... "oh you're over there now ". no they don't just stand still Rico ! . on to their 2nd at 1.14. freeze it. Rico challenging. loses it , no problem there. but he goes for the 2nd that he can't win. there's no pressure on the ball, you can't win it... you have to drop. poor Sheehan is the only one giving a decent effort of a chase back. on to their 3rd at 1.28, look where Santos' starting position is.. other half of the pitch despite ball being over this side. !? had he been off for treatment or something ? and his efforts at getting back are laughable. leading by example !?! . he looks injured. another Evatt masterclass in injury prevention... playing him in a game he didn't need to. I understand he wanted to give him a run out...but you've gotta be sure he's ok first. another promotion for Warne. another for Sarce last week. another for Parky last week . has everyone forgot this ?. Sharon B wanted automatics. mission fail Evatt . www.theboltonnews.co.uk/sport/23582643.bolton-wanderers-sharon-brittans-automatic-promotion-aim/

I worried that the day may end up with Derby getting caught cold late and us either playing out a 0-0 or a narrow 1-0 not good enough victory. So to go 2 up early was all I wanted. We could then assess it. Obviously we'd have known that it wasn't meant to be and no doubt that played in a part in the downfall but at that point I wasn't overly concerned. I was a bit disappointed when we went 3-2 down as the fans travelled in good numbers, all season and didn't really deserve to go out(of the regular season) that way.
Positives. Dempsey back in it. Charles scoring and Jerome actually ending the season in good style. Negative shaky defence and unable to send a strong message to possible finalist. Also I know it's unfair to judge but I don't really see Dan Nlundulu as an option next season and would be looking for a loan move elsewhere to see what sort of form he can come back with.
Also guess that means we won't be seeing Vic in the play offs.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2022%E2%80%9323_EFL_League_One#League_tablejust a reminder, last years league table... Derby finished 5 pt's behind us. Pompey just the 11 points behind us in 8th. no wonder Sharon was expecting automatics . only team who finished ahead of us were Barnsley and they lost their manager Duff. and they have rather crappy 12k average crowds. www.footballwebpages.co.uk/league-one/attendancesthe 3 relegated sides were all expected to not offer much threat also... 2 with financial issues Reading and Wigan. and Blackpool fairly low budget anyway with 10k crowds. and just look at Derby. big club, big crowds, good manager, but that squad is the oldest in the Div as Warne points out at 5.10'ish in the vid below. no massive stars in their squad. this vid is from the post match from Derby v Bwfc clash about a mth ago which we lost. he was worried about injuries at the time...Gayle (aged 34 ) had limped off, and so had another. Mendez laing another 30+ got injured in next game or 2. look at their squad. www.whoscored.com/Teams/20/Show/England-Derbycraig forsyth striker..aged 35. mendez laing aged 32. top scorer james collins aged 33. waghorn 34 gayle 34. you can carry the odd one over 30 or 32, but they have loads and especially in forward positions. with high pressing modern game , its going to take it's toll. ...3 games in a week etc, as Warne says. whereas Evatts had the luxury of signing a whole raft of players right in their prime... Charles 28 ( but had him 2 + yrs) , Collins 26, sheehan 29 now (but had him 2yrs) Maghoma 22, Dempsey 28, Thomason 23 ( inherited obviously ), Vic 26 , Baxter 25. the extra disincentive aspect to this older ages.... half of that Derby squad will get binned. going up signs their own personal death warrant in a sense.

Forget any VAR as in my view there’s absolutely nothing wrong with their goals at all, but Santos was so far off it, lazy, embarrassing, just not fighting for the cause and I wouldn’t put it down to already knowing the Derby score, no, I think we can expect the same level of defending when we face Barnsley and he’ll be found out even more. He needs dropping for the first leg and perhaps the 2nd leg based on that showing alone. Of course, Evatt won’t do that to his ‘best player’ He could become our weak link to securing a Wembley spot I’m scared after watching that back😬😬
