No chance Rioch, Pompey will be up as champions. They just do enough. Even yesterday to get a point when they were behind and playing pretty poor shows that.
Interesting that you said Derby will be the Wednesday because they have Warne and hes notoriously good at promotion, shocking at championship. I wonder whether they have that in mind and make a change no matter what.
Also saw on itv highlights that at 1 down the Barnsley fans(away. So hard core) were chanting for thier manager Collins to be sacked. And people say we're negheads. They won 3-1. Connell with a 3rd. But that bodes well for us.
If they don't go up I'd be looking to bring Luca back here next season. Can have the armband too.

A strange game with a disappointing result for us. Four decent goals but somehow it was a dirge. Derby came to sit behind the ball and defend which they did tremendously well and then countered with pace. Both their goals came from breakaways. Portsmouth played the BWFC walking football. Slow, slow and slow again. They looked pretty awful and, but for a worldie shot, would have lost. I thought Portsmouth were an out and out attacking side but not last night. How many touches did Colby Bishop have? Three or four? They were just so slow with some awful passing. I know that I may sound like a jealous fan but if Derby get promoted, they will be like Sheff Wed and struggle to stay up. Somehow we need someone (Wycombe?) to do us a favour. Couldn’t have put it better myself davidm and sadly, your final run in predictions need a rethink now that Pompey didn’t win I could easily see Derby going up as champions (not worthy champions) but if Pompey continue like that, they’ll just get over the line in 2nd I’m hoping that by the time Wycombe have either won or lost this Saturdays Papa BSM final, they’ll get back to winning ways and do us a favour and beat or draw against Derby Ultimately though, we really do need to thrash Bristol Rovers to get the goals up as that could possibly be a deciding factor. Have to say, I’d rather lose a Play Off final than lose out on 1 goal to get us automatically promoted 😬😬 Can you imagine that? Everything’s completely equal apart from ONE goal, be it for or against!!!! That would be cruel😞 Well it happened to Northampton two years ago rioch when Bristol Rovers whacked seven in on the last day and squeezed them out of promotion so it’s not unique. They managed it a year later thankfully so no real damage done. I actually think Derbys bigger threat is away at Cambridge who seem to have really picked up recently so if we can just hang in there it’s all still possible. I don’t think Pompey will slip up they’re odds on for the title even if they do (hopefully) lose to us. The difference though as we’ve said several times could be not the players but the manager. We were done last year by Duff with Barnsley and it could happen again this time with Paul Warne? Let’s just hope not and we sneak up either automatically or via the play offs. 🙂

That's the issue with this part or the season. You could play Cambridge who are battling for survival and two weeks later they're now safe and effectively on the beach when your rivals play them.
No idea how Wycombe will react to a win or loss. Unlike us they are bang mid table so a win and they are not going to golf back the celebrations. And as I've said Posh may be playing us on the last game knowing they have two games possible against us the week after. Whereas Derby play an already relegated Carlisle.
In truth then there should be dropping points for Derby. None of thier opponents have anything to play for at all.
We have "danger" opponents in Port Vale, Portsmouth and Peterborough.

To be honest OM I’d actually rather be playing teams who still have something to play for and the nerves that go with that than a team who has no pressure other than maybe new contracts or transfers. I always recall a game many years ago against Wolves on the final day with us needing a result to go up and Wolves having nothing to play for and to this day I’ve never seen a team put more effort into winning a game than they did so I’m not so sure it matters a lot really. What does matter is that we turn up, do the business and get the points. If we don’t do that we’ve nobody to blame but ourselves. 🙂

Was thinking about the out of contract players and how that plays out. Usually in this league long contracts are rare so the turnover is high. So if a lot of clubs have players running out will this galvanise them, remember Darren Pratley, turned up for 6 weeks before contract talks and then went missing before the ink set.
Also how many players are out of contract for us. As far as I know only JDB and Jerome expire in summer. Everyone else I believe is tied down. Could be wrong. Anyone know of anyone else.

You are more or less right. Bodvarsson and Jerome are out of contract in the summer – together with the loanees and, of course, Declan John. As far as I know, this is the full list:- JUNE 2024 Loanees:- Caleb Taylor, Calvin Ramsay, Nat Ogbeta. Zac Ashworth, Paris Maghoma plus Declan John Jon Dadi Bodvarsson Cameron Jerome JUNE 2025 Nathan Baxter Joel Coleman Gethin Jones Eoin Toal Ricardo Santos Jack Iredale Josh Dacres-Cogley Randell Williams Josh Sheehan JUNE 2026 Will Forrester George Johnston Kyle Dempsey Carlos Mendes Gomes Victor Adeboyejo Dan Nlundulu Dion Charles JUNE 2027 George Thomason Aaron Morley Aaron Collins

Good list David and out of those in 24 I’d try to keep Ogbeta and Paris and definitely another 12 months for Bod if he’ll take it though I suspect he’d be looking for something longer. Out of the 2025 bunch I’d be looking to extend for Geth and Toal, possibly Sheehan but otherwise I’d let the others go. Of course much depends what league we’re in and what we can afford as well as whether anybody else comes knocking for one or two of them?

I just don't think he has the basic skills for that role. Would love to see a real good LWB who can beat a man and deliver a great ball in. Though they're not 10 a penny. At the moment we have Williams, Ogbeta and Ashworth. Maybe between the 3 they could morph into that player but all have flaws.

Actually I would keep Williams. I think we only got him on the cheap because he is injury prone, but he is a very good attacking wing back. I am surprised who Whites is thinking of moving out including Baxter, Santos, and Iredale, and maybe Sheehan. In my opinion there is too much forward thinking going on about the squad for if and when we reach the Championship. Let us get there first, and then let those in charge assess all the possibilities for the future.

I wasn’t meaning let them go for free, apologies for not making it clear so yes the likes of Rico and Baxter I’d expect to receive a fee for but whilst I like Iredale and Williams to a po8nt I think we need better. I see a really good LWB in Ogbeta and whilst not all of his crosses have been spot on some have been terrific and he’s one of our best corner takers. He’s young yet and I’m sure will improve with more game time. I just think all round we need a step up and whilst most players are suitable for L1 if we’re hoping for promotion we need a notch up in quality and experience.
