Just noticed, poor James Trafford has been scored past TWENTY times so far after just EIGHT games
At that rate, he would be on the receiving end of 96 goals when the seasons finished

Well, that was dreadful.
Slow, ponderous, sideways, walking football.
We had no urgency whatsoever in our play. Slow, slow and then a bit slower.
The manager doesn’t seem to have it in him to recognise that sometimes the style of play needed changing within the match but he cannot do that.
I heard the manager’s interview afterwards and it was the referees fault and we are tired. Tired AGAIN – what sort of excuse is that? Pathetic.
The referee – who by the way played for us at Barnsley last season – did mess up on the penalties but we got away with one and were still level at the break.
The second half was terrible though. It was clear to everyone at half time that it wasn’t working playing so slow but No he wouldn’t change the style.
Oh for a bit of pace.
Oh for some accurate passing – Thomason got Forrester injured with a dreadful pass and then Williams got Thomason injured with a dreadful pass. Nlundulu came on in the 2nd half and his first touch sent Carlisle away on the attack.
Our passing was awful, apart from Forrester sending Dacres-Cogley away for our goal. Mind you, we still needed the opponent to score for us.
Carlisle totally outplayed us. But for Baxter, we would have conceded 5 or 6. Their keeper had nothing to do at all. Their supporters out shouted the home fans.
Just a downright dreadful showing – no heart, no pace, no quality, no intensity.
One query that I do have is regarding the 3rd goal. I haven’t seen the replays yet but why weren’t Carlisle offside .I accept they weren’t when they were in their own half but then 3 of their players went forward and passed the ball forwards (I think) between them. At that stage, there was only 1 man between them and our goal so if they passed the ball forward at any stage in our half, they were offside.
I take all that back - I have just seen the highlights and the same guy runs the whole length of the pitch and scores.
Marks:-
Baxter - 8 But for him, we would have had 5 or 6 goals against us. He made some excellent saves but then lost a point for the stupid trek upfield in the last minute.
Dacres - Cogley - 5 Good move between him and Forrester for our goal albeit with some luck to get the ball in the net. But he was unable to do much positive after that.
Williams - 4 How many times did he have chances to get the ball in the box and failed, usually losing the ball easily.
Forrester - 5 A plus for our goal but he needed to close down their man quicker for the 2nd goal.
Toal - 4 For the second game running, a simple mistake leads to us conceding a goal. I know it was a bouncing awkward ball but he was so clumsy
Iredale - 4 A couple of attempts at long crossfield balls but so sloppy and at one stage in the 2nd half let their man just run through unopposed – only a great save from Baxter rescued him
Sheehan - 5 A decent first half but all ideas disappeared in the 2nd half.
Thomason - 3 Poor. Some atrocious passes – one of which got Forrester injured. He just wasn’t on form at all
Dempsey - 3 Very poor. He has badly lost form in the last few weeks and some of his passing was dreadful
Charles - 4 As usual, no service to him from a poor midfield but he seemed to want to do it all himself
Adeboyejo - 2 The only positive I can say about this man is that he is better than Nlundulu. Truly awful.
Morley - 2 Very disappointing show. You would expect him to geed up when he came on but he produced nothing other a few terrible corners
Bodvarsson - 4 Much better than Adeboyejo when he came on but got no service
Nlundulu - 2 Hardly worthy of a mark
Ashworth - 4 Not that good at attacking

David. I agree. But it's hard to read your assessment and not to conclude that perhaps that a decision needs to be made.
I would say it's a fork in the road. A point where Evatt needs to change or fail. Guys not interested in developing, learning, adapting. He thinks he's cracked it. So for me that fork in the road becomes end of the road.
Swap dug outs. Stick Ian Evatt in the Carlise camp and I suspect he'd be sacked by Xmas. Could Simpson get this lot up? Maybe but he would be anchored down by Evatts appalling strike force.

It’s as if Keith Hill has left behind his ‘book of excuses and poor drivel’ behind for Evatt to pick up and use
He’s now saying that these players need the international break to recoup, recover, get the injured back etc etc blah blah blah
What would Bruce have said when we went on the amazing undefeated runs, or Colin when we aimed for 100 goals 100 points, or Sam!!!
All 3 of them would have done a Jim Royle Break!!!! My arse
Someone mentioned either on here or the BN, big crowd, bottom 6 side, stroll in the park for us!!!
Paul Simpson has been around far too long to know that’s not how the game works and on the back of that encouraging 1-1 draw v Peterborough as well as the fact that actually, Carlisle aren’t a bad side, yesterday’s result should not have been a surprise at all.
We have got to that point that we need to try something else now. Any wannabe manager would have us where we are (6th) with the players we have, but any decent manager would have us top by a country mile, not Evatt

Morning all I've just noticed my post from last night and realized I posted it on the wrong site it should have been the BEN site sorry. Thought that was the case Chip, opinions differ on here but always allowed to say your piece in peace. Thinking I may have gone OTT on Evatt. Its my opinion that I would like a change in management but I fully accept that in black and white terms it would seem a harsh dismissal on the outside.

It’s not harsh at all OoooM Things have their limits, products have their limits, food, cars, electronics, football managers etc etc Yes, Evatt got us promoted (almost fluffed his lines) and yes he got us to Wembley and we won v a decent Plymouth, we also made the play offs under him, but that’s where his limits have kicked in good and proper, he cannot elevate us beyond League One and I do honestly believe we will repeat last season’s escapades, another trip to Wembley probably in the pointless cup, maybe even a play off final, who knows, but that’ll be that. Even if we did get up through the play offs, I think we’d soon come back down, just as I can see Plymouth dropping

I'm not too sure about all that, Rioch. For a start a couple of the missing players, and a different referee could have made a difference yesterday (some of the football I've just watched between City and Arsenal was a bit reminiscent of v Carlisle), and I agree with you mainly in Evatt's apparent satisfaction with his work in the last transfer window. He certainly didn't get the two players we need most, a defensive midfielder to replace JDW, and an improved striker to support Charles. He has persistently told us that the squad is good enough, and there I think he is either fooling himself, or paying lip-service to the owners, who did give him the Dapo money to spend on Victor in terms of firing him, the owners seem to be happy that he's doing their will, so no hope of that and roll on January window. If the crowds continue to swell. hopefully after the current decline, there should be cash available then.

Well, we had out granddaughter all weekend so I didn’t get the chance to go to or hear the match so I thought I’ll leave it until Monday, drop her off at school then come home and watch the full replay, trying to hide the score. Well, no full match replay on Wanderers TV (thank goodness) just the extended highlights which I wouldn’t have watched if I hadn’t seen the score. Thankfully I did and was not in the least surprised as actually for some reason 1-3 was in my mind despite again feeling I was being overly pessimistic. The problem is that this result isn’t an anomaly, we could easily have lost against both Port Vale and Stevenage and in fact we’ve been second best to everybody since the Wigan defeat and in my opinion very lucky to be where we actually are in the league. Maybe the injuries and suspensions have had an impact but I don’t personally buy that because on paper the team we’ve put out is not far off our considered best eleven and I certainly don’t accept this “tired” baloney. I’ve always backed Evatt up to now but his complete failure to even change or adapt to suit the situation, including with substitutions is worrying. Teams playing us already know exactly how well play and what they have to do to stop us yet Evatt continues with his system never attempting to surprise them. I’m not urging his sacking but I just hope he learns from games like this and accepts that he has to adapt things and even realise that sometimes he’s just plain wrong, or is that too much for his inflated ego?

I hate it and it bores me stupid, but so many teams now are playing this way: passing the ball between the defenders and goalkeeper for extended periods. So I asked google the question "why do football teams play out from the back" and read the answers. In summary it is seen as a high-risk, high-reward method (In our case I see the risk but not the reward). It is also very dependent on having the right personnel. Perhaps here is where Ian Evatt shows a lack of judgment. If currently you have two star defenders out injured, along with two midfielders injured who would be pushing for a first team place and only one striker able to adapt to the system.....would it not make sense to adjust the system to the team you are able to put out? At least to do so temporarily until the injured players return. Maybe I am seeing the matter in an overly simplistic way?

At least to do so temporarily until the injured players return. Maybe I am seeing the matter in an overly simplistic way? 100% with you there one2many, where is the reward ? football is generally a low scoring game. goals change games. make one cock up at the back and it could be game over. can't see the reward at all. if the oppo overpresses against you, but then that's there stupidity. the old school logic would be take risks in the opposition half. not in your own final third. that's not just long ball mentality, I've heard Alan Hansen and Brian Clough..(people renowned for their attractive playing or managing style) say similar. i've said before managers like Wenger and Fergie wouldn't do this stupid playing out lark. they'd play out where possible but not take the huge risks. if a mistake happened i'm sure Fergie would be fuming. i'm amazed by some pundits these days...commit harri-kari and they say.." oh well they are trying to do the right thing". you what !?! I'm tempted to set up a thread on here listing all the passing out disasters that happen week in week out. i think i'd be too busy to get anything else done.. for example just this wk/end, Liverpool v brighton..1st goal conceded. Bournemouth v Everton...again 1st goal conceded. also Newc v Psg in champs lge....1st goal again. a month or so ago, another hilarious near miss when Burnley played Man u. Bunrley kick off, ball ends up with Trafford and passing it around. Ally Mccoist on co-comm is literally saying "they've been taking too many stupid risks in previous games"....and there and then ,they cock it up and hand a huge chance within 40 secs of THEIR OWN kick off. they get away with it, but Ally then quite rightly says -" isn't that what i 've just been saying". it's just copying for copying's sake. when Wenger came in and did well, you suddenly got this influx of French managers. most of them were'nt up to it. and now i struggle to think of many in our game. now it's all Spanish. ( sheff wed..how's that working for you ! ) then Klopp does well, and they start hiring Germans. i've been watching Russell Martin closer..he's an Evatt clone..highest possession in Ch'ship with Southampton...just go and look at their recent cock up goals vs Leicester or Ipswich. horrendous. 10th in the lge , 13 pt's behind Leics. i don't know how they get these jobs. he'd never got close to getting Swansea up. i bet Luton and Sheff utd had lower possession and lower budgets to get up last year than he had. bit more info on Russell martin per wiki...supports the green party, from Brighton and a vegan. says it all. another Dale Vince. glad to see their doing so well..rock bottom of lge 2 !! . oh and Southampton result form the wkend... 1-1 at home to lowly Rotherham who 've been pretty much raided of all their best players. www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/66968812 80% possession of course though

I’ve just been sent the video footage of the team talk from Evatt pre kick off against Carlisle
“If anyone attempts to shoot anywhere near their goal, they’ll never play for this club again”
I do jest of course, but I bet I’m not a million miles off the truth
That’s why I’m saying as I have in my previous post that other managers in this league are leaving Evatt behind.
If Evatt watched the City Arsenal game yesterday, he would have learnt a few more ‘tactical’ moves in how not to penetrate the opposition box, yeah, even by City’s usual standards, they tried to play EvattBall and walk the ball in rather than shoot. Erling was like Dion, devoid of proper ball to feet in the box and this has been the case for a few City games now, opponents are figuring them out, just like they have done with us
Still think City will win the league by the way😬
Evatt is spent and I’m spent with him

Weird that I said that and that the next day story breaks that John Eustace gets sacked with the club sitting 6th in the league. I knew Rooney had left DC and was wondering if he would fit. He did a good job at Derby, presumably wants to live near home and commercially would probably get even more tickets sold and given that American ownership is pretty much taking over his profile may put the alerts on potential bidders. I assume FV will eventually look for investment or to pass on the baton. I honestly don't know how I would feel about that. For me though I'd take Warnock on 18 months.
