Another 1-1 but not sure from listening to that that we really deserved it although once again full marks to the boys for not giving in. Chances missed at both ends so probably a fair result. Good point for the Owls but they’ll be sick at not taking the three so let’s see how it affects their play off hopes now, they certainly gave it their all.

well, we hung on in there & were at least gritty , hard to beat , and got that late goal, as we often do. bit of a scratchy performance. up til the MJ goal , just 1 shot on target, to their 5. and shots 8 vs 21 to them ! .
corners. 4 v 9.
with not doing a detailed preview, didn't realise Sheff wed away form was bit poor. only 6 wins. we've got 7. mk AND wigan 12. rotherham 11. sheff wed don't lose as many away as us, but do let the odd point or two slip, and they've done it again.

Summat tells me had Santos played we’d have lost that game and I don’t think I’m being unreasonable with that statement
Did Bod get injured to be subbed or was that a bit more tinkering from Ian?

Tinkering I think Rioch and Bod seemed to me to have been doing ok. Baka didn’t seem to do much when he came on and Xav even less but at least we scored so I suppose it worked out for him. Those who were there may be able to confirm or deny that as I only had commentary. That’s 3 of the top teams we’ve played now and not lost to any of them but I’d say we were second best to them and we’ll need to be better next season if we seriously want to challenge.

To lead with my and I daresay others' frustrations, we waste so much time in our half. Lots of to and fro passing and quite commonly bringing the ball all the way back from quite advanced positions. I'm not an advocate of long balls all the time but we have Charles and Bodvarsson who are a real handful. We just have to play more directly some of the time. We have to give them balls to chase and defenders to harry. There is needless risk to boot.
For much of the game we were secomd best not as outplayed as in midweek. Bannen had four clear shots, three early on and the best chance which would have seen us off in the second half.
That we were in it at all was thanks to a splendid Trafford save from a close range header. His best save yet. He was again very secure.
The defence was far better without Santos I thought. Aimson does his best to mark men and head to colleagues. Today another brave block saved the day. Johnston too is good positionally. So by and large we kept them at range and cleared most threats. John struggled and made one horrendous error that we got away with because we marked centrally. Jones too had to battle and needed the supporting cast.
Kachunga flattered to deceive again but he did win the vital corner.Morley took some good set pieces. Bodvarson should have converted the best but glanced wide in the first half.
Williams battled away and earned his goal but I do wish we'd stop passing to him centrally when he faces his own goal. He has no turning capacity and is no Lee or Dempsey so the ball almost always returns and wastes time.
Second best again and out of it by our own design for long periods. Nevertheless some grit. Didn't think we'd equalise today but somehow we did. No idea how their goal got through? Post? Looked like we had chances to clear.
Trafford 8 Jones 6 Aimson 7 Johnston 7 John 4 Morley 6 Williams 6 Sadlier 6 Kachunga 5 Charles 7 Bodvarson 6 Bakayoko 4 Gordon 4 Amaechi 3

A total tactical cock up by our manager.
After weeks (mainly successful weeks) of playing with 3 at the back and with wing backs, he totally changed the shape of the team and failed to react during a woeful performance so we played an odd shape all match.
We played 4 at the back with Williams and Morley in front of the defence and then another line of 3, Kachunga, Bodvarsson and Sadlier, leaving Charles on his own upfront. Charles, as at Wigan last week, was used as a target man on his own and, of course, couldn’t win or retain the ball whilst Bodvarsson, our best header and best holder of the ball, was 20 yards behind in midfield.
If that wasn’t bad enough, the manager made no change to the shape throughout the whole 90 minutes despite being totally dominated for the first 45 minutes. What is the purpose of half time if you can’t spot the weaknesses and make amendments? He continued his folly when he replaced Bodvarsson with Bakayoko who also played in midfield.
Wednesday totally dominated the game. The first 20 minutes were embarrassing and they just pressed us and took the ball from us. Our play was littered with mistakes where every one of the back 6 gave the ball away or lost the ball in a tackle.
We had a couple of chances when Sadlier had a shot well saved by their keeper and Bodvarsson headed wide from a good position from a Morley free kick. He should have scored.
We were only level at half time because of Trafford’s keeping and Wednesday’s shocking finishing.
The match also wasn’t helped by the referee falling for a couple of professional dives/falls which got Johnston and Jones booked.
I expected a change of shape at half time with us reverting to a back 3 and wing backs but No we stayed the same and played the same.
We had a couple of flurries at the start of the second half but nothing dangerous and Wednesday continued to dominate.
When Wednesday eventually scored, it was very poor. They broke down their left and absolutely skinned Jones. Their player greedily tried to score himself and got a corner. The corner was, not for the only time in this match, won by a Wednesday head and from the following scramble someone tapped in. Our manager has a good point about offside because after the header and a scramble, Trafford was well off his line and the ball appeared to go to a man with just a defender between him and the goal for a tap in. So there weren’t 2 men between him and the goal. I need to look again on the highlights.
Having said all that, it was a deserved lead.
Wednesday continued to have all the pressing but also employed time wasting tactics whenever they could.
We tried but really with no danger until our favourite time the last minute when we won a corner which fell to Williams to score.
A really poor performance from all, including the manager. A point we did not deserve but I’ll take it.
Marks:-
Trafford - 7 A few good stops. His kicking out was pretty average though.
Jones - 5 Caught out a lot of times,
Aimson - 5 Easily turned and beaten a few times. One tremendous block in the 2nd half.
Johnston - 5 Caught in possession too often.
John - 5 As with the rest of the back 4, poor forward passing and caught in possession too much.
Williams - 5 Credit for the goal but Wednesday absolutely dominated him.
Morley - 4 A really poor performance. His passing was so poor. And like everyone else, he was caught in possession too much.
Sadlier - 4 Very sloppy. Lost the ball so much.
Kachunga - 3 Terrible. His sole positive idea is to play for free kicks and penalties.
Bodvarsson - 5 Out of position but he did give the ball away too much.
Charles - 5 Ran and harried well but he is NOT a target man. He needed Bodvarsson next to him.
Bakayoko - 5 One excellent pass from right to left but, as with Bodvarsson, out of position.
Gordon - 5 A couple of mistakes but that fitted in well with the rest of the team.
Amaechi - 5 Flitted about but created nothing.

quite a lot of slip-ups from the top sides today. MK failed to beat Wimbledon. bit of rivalry in that one- well... one-sided rivalry ! Plymouth only drew at Burton. you'd think some of these midtable sides had nowt to play for, only pride. Pompey lost 1-0 to Cheltenham. Wycombe only drew with Gillingham Charlton went away to Rotherham and beat them 1-0. and Ipswich only drew at Shrewsbury. only really Wigan and Sunderland won. Sunderland at the expense of another play off contender Oxford. in terms of goals from topscorer candidates. another from Stockton, though they still lost 2-1. joint top with 22. Will Keane with another to go on to 21. Vokes with 1 for Wycombe- on to 15. pretty quiet day otherwise from the usual names which might explain the top half of this post !. with Pompey losing, we have moved up to 10th, although they do have 2 games in hand on us. www.whoscored.com/Regions/252/Tournaments/8/Seasons/8620/Stages/19795/PlayerStatistics/England-League-One-2021-2022Sean Mcconville got a goal and assist for Accy to extend to his lead at the top of the assists charts with 14. Twine of MK in 2nd with 12. the likes of Bannon and Max Power ( wigan) with 10 in jt 3rd place. our best has 5. Lee/John/Fossey all jt on 5. www.soccerbase.com/players/player.sd?player_id=71463btw, Dions goal drought now going back a full 9 (lge) games to 19th Feb for his last goal. vs Wimbledon.

Offside marginal but I can't tell who gets the knock on or its precise moment. Has to be given to attacker. Probably onside anyway. Evatt should unequivocally leave the rules to those who at least know them.
Better to consider how yet again we left a far post header free space.
We are just about hanging on here for the summer. To mount a challenge some wheeling and dealing needed. Evatt himself does not convince?

Morning all I know I'm a bit thick but could someone please explain what 2.0 is meant to mean I have seen it in various comments but don't know what it means. . It usually means a slight update. I guess its usually used fairly derogatory to suggest the change has had little or no impact. Feel like Suzie Dent now.

Baka's biggest goal drought 5 games despite not getting many minutes. Dion currently on 9 game drought. www.soccerbase.com/players/player.sd?player_id=74493I know he's often not done well starting, but just noticed his goals per min is actually better than Stocktons , & Ross Stewart - the 2 joint topscorers in this Div. www.whoscored.com/Regions/252/Tournaments/8/Seasons/8620/Stages/19795/PlayerStatistics/England-League-One-2021-2022Baka 1291 mins played. 8 goals. mins per goal = 161.375 Stockton 3570 mins. 22 goals . mins per goal = 162.27 Ross Stewart -sunderland. 22 3634 mins. . 165 mins per goal i'm not stating he should be starting, as he might just be that Solksjaer type player , or David Fairclough (for older generations) who does best off the bench as a supersub. just thought i'd put it out there. certainly worth trying with a few more minutes.

Not for me rtf, Baka just isn’t good enough in general play if we’re going to seriously challenge. He may be worth keeping to come on in games but we really need a genuine goal scorer to partner Dion next year. I’d like Stockton but fear he may be out of our range now. Why Evatt didn’t sign him when he was available last season I really don’t know but instead he stuck to his belief that Doyle was enough. Ridiculous looking back. If you’re going to seriously challenge you need goalscorers and that’s what we’re lacking and have since Rvatt came in.
