wow, this one is a belter. like mining gold digging up these old vid's. increasingly hard to find new ones, but delighted when one does get found. don't know why it's never returned in the search this one. when I first saw it was 1.36 long, i presumed it was 1 min 36, long. much much better. 1 hr 36 all Roadrunner/ Higson vids. only into the first 5 or 6 mins but i presume it carries on that way. I was aiming to find a vid with Dave shouting "Winnie Winnie Winnie" after a Mark Winstanley goal, which i've seen ppl suggest is one that makes them laugh. anyone any idea who that goal was against ?

just ploughing my way thru the vid above.
notable moments :
16.55 terrific confident finish by Thommo. don't see them taken like that every week !. 18.35 Mcateer with a good run. finds Green, who then slots Lee thru' for a neat finish. 23.53 Tony Kelly on the run...slide rule ball thru to SJM.... who takes a touch or 2 to weigh things up, then slams it home. 24.21 exchange of passes in midfield involving Patterson who then feeds Mcateer. burst thru'. ...slaloms his way past 3 of them and fires home. surely his best goal ever not just for us, for any of his clubs !! . 32.50 probably Mcateer's 2nd best goal ever. balls works it's way out to JP on the left side, puts a low cross in..Mcateer turns and fires it into the top corner. pick that one out !!
59.18. 2-2 vs Arsenal in the fa cup at Burnden. Tony Kelly with the little run and cross finding SJM on the back stick. again they do this decoy trick that they seemed to employ a lot. doesn't go for goal direct. reverses it to the other post..where Coyle is running in to poke home. Andy Gray with the sky co-comm waxing lyrical about TK's contribution on that one !

this one didn't make the greatest goals list above in the BN but could have easily done so. not sure if i've already posted this one or not. great reaction by DH . anyone sat within a 50 yard radius of him, got their ears de-waxed for free with that scream he let out !! . brilliant goal. no idea how he stays up from the 1st 2 tackles which get so close, the tackles end up meeting each other. then the next one is another one that seems almost impossible to emerge from, upright AND with the ball !! . terrific balance, and reading of when to jump / hurdle the tackles.

well i was using this thread for a bit of archive BWFC action, not just DH vids. not updated it for a while. some of this stuff feels quite recent. quite scary to see some of it, is almost 20 yrs ago. doesn't half make you feel old. 3 good away wins. Enjoy ! ( all courtesy of the excellent Philicon account on youtube. )

another from the 06/07 season. this was BSA's last where Little Sam took over for 2 or 3 at the end. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2006%E2%80%9307_Bolton_Wanderers_F.C._season#Results_per_matchdaythe lge positions are shown after each matchday in link above. up to gameweek 14, we'd were 3rd in the PL table ( or higher ) on 7 occasions. ( end of the matchdays/wk-end etc) it was the season of the awful November if you remember. only lost 1 lge game up to mid Oct. beating both Liverpool & Spurs 2-0 at the Reebok. then had a dodgy spell with 1 win in 7. then 5 wins in a row. the 3rd one of those being this Man city win below. then only 4 wins in the 2nd half of the season. it was ,as if, BSA's heart wasn't in it. just about clung on to 7th place at the end, and qualified for Europe, but no wins in the final 6, and just 1 clean sheet in the final 11 games . It was the season BSA wanted reinforcements in Jan, and didn't get them. from the football side, i can see that, but i can also see given the financial side, and what later happened, why the purse strings had to be reined in. quite staggering hearing fans accuse the club of not spending enough given the state of the books at the time. magic money tree types !! . it's not just us, we've seen it with other clubs, and even bigger ones than us Leeds. as well as the Pompeys , etc. if you can't see from all those examples, you're never going to get it. there was once an excellent B.N post countering the logic that if you'd just given him more . it'd be all ok. i wish i'd saved a copy of it, it was brilliant. it went something along the lines of : - you give him more, even if he gets Champs lge, then maybe he just gets the England job sooner or poached by another big club, and we're left with players contracts that last 3 years etc. gates had already dropped 2 or 3 seasons before. ticket prices were already pretty high explaining the crowd dropping off despite good results. there wasn't much a conveyor belt of youth products. and a lot of the success was built on buying age-ing players on Bosmans with high wages. on the face of it made it look cheap. all these "frees". not much trading up of players either. ideally you'd get Jay jay in, get 2 years out of him, then sell him on. but it just didn't happen. I'm rambling now. enjoy the vid !

just a little extra to the post above. with the benefit of hindsight, we should of course look at BSA post-bwfc too. he never quite reached these heights with other clubs either, despite several being bigger on paper than us. so he didn't prove the ownership wrong. much as I like BSA, it'd be good to see a bit more humility from him on that aspect. he still sells it as some kind of "if only" job. he was shopping at the top table ...getting players from Real Madrid (more than 1... Campo, Hierro ) & other world cup stars. even some of the bigger clubs he moved on to didn't indulge him to this extent. absolutely no mention from him that he could see their point or what happened to BWFC dropping down to Div 4 effectively and threat of being kicked out of the lge entirely ( to re-form etc ).
Moyes got Everton into the top 4, but i think they cocked up the qualifying rounds. Blackburn spent and spent and won the PL . it didn't permanently transform them into a longer term big club. it still amuses me the difference in treatment the Venky's got compared to our lot. every football fan knew about the Venky's nationwide. for what ? they only slipped to the Championship. no HMRC court cases. no points deductions. yet treated like criminals. Blackpool too for opposite reasons. keeping a tight financial ship. not saying they're perfect, but no great drop down to Div 4 or court cases, point deductions or anything. media seemed to act as if they were always a PL club ? seriously my perception is that they've been knocking around tier 2 & 3 most of the time anyway, excluding the hey day with Matthews and Morty.
Brighton almost having similar experience to us. when you do well as a smaller club in the PL. the vultures start circling. loads of key players sold. seemed to be getting away with it early season, but on a real bad run. no clean sheets all season. they may get away with it for a season or 2 or even 5 but the time will come. Southampton had a similar run. sold all sorts for years...Walcott, Bale, Sadio Mane, Van dijk. you might re-invest well for a while but then they get sold too. 1 or 2 bad re-investments and it all goes pop like last season. both of these though did make sales. that was the weird thing with us. we just didn't make any sales....Ricketts was pretty much the only exception, and a good deal it was too. I don't know whether the style of play put buyers off or what. later in the Megson/coyle era...again..a few sales... Anelka but way too cheap. also Cahill. lucky to get a minimal fee rather than nowt on a Bosman. always irks me that one , when that wondrous player Phil Jones (!?) went from Blackburn to Man u for about 20 mill. yet Cahill who selling at similar time, and later proved to be as good, if not better goes for way less.

As this article is more of a reminisce thread and most notably about football in the 90’s, we were all over Baddiel & Skinners Fantasy Football League programme back then and one of the items we all laughed about week in, week out was the constant piss take of Jason Lee (Nottingham Forest and the ‘one with the pineapple head) As I look back at these clips on YouTube, it was incessant, it definitely was an attack on him every week and yet we all sat back and laughed along with B&S, but not only them, the likes of Hansen, Lynam, Danny Baker, Zoe Ball, Clive Thomas, Motson, Ray Stubbs, Stato, Alan Davies, Neil Morrisey, David Seaman, Jonathan Ross. Yes, some big names there and they all laughed along at this systematic purposeful attack on the poor lad. So what better way to settle the score than to face up to your demons than to actually front up to the person you’ve ruined for all those years. www.youtube.com/watch?v=he6Nq2lWLJ0It’s a balanced watch, not watched it all yet, but from what I’ve seen, only Baddiel is there to face Jason Lee Where is Frank to show his redemption

a few classics from Andy Walker...even a bit of Dave Higson comm with some of these.
on the Jason Lee stuff Rioch. yeah, looking back it probably was harsh. especially the repetitive nature of it. not intended i'm sure. it was playing on the typical football banter with repeated themes. you wonder how they got people to turn up for Phoenix from the flames as they were literally taking the mick , in quite a severe way some times, & right there in front of their face. but it was all about being a good sport, not bothering about it, and taking it as it was intended as a joke. but at least they were consenting to it and presumably getting a fee too. bit harsh to be taking it week in week out.
I still think comedy in general has gone too much the other way. there is a balance to be struck. you could argue we shouldn't have marks out of 10 in the paper after games, as it hurts players confidence etc. Graham Potter when he was at Chelsea was even arguing he doesn't get angry with refs or make comments as it sets a bad example down in the non-lges and kids game etc . very saintly approach. not many managers seem to share his view on that, even the most right-on ones.

a trip way back down memory lane now.. 1954 FA cup. away at Pompey. 2 goals from Willie Moir do the job for us, to make it through the tie. he outscored Lofty that season. 25 goals all comps. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Bolton_Wanderers_F.C._seasons back in 48/49 he was the topscorer in the Div 1. just not our topscorer , the lge's topscorer ! we've only ever had 4 others achieve that feat of topscorer in the top flight. Albert Shepherd 1905/06, Joe Smith 1920/21, Lofty ( of course ) and Frank Worthington. we're away to Pompey next time out. can we match this result. certainly a test. it's odd to have a match where we are not bookies favourites in. current prices 13/10 Pompey. Bolton 2/1 and draw 12/5.

I’m probably on my own here but in my era of watching Bolton’s front men (from 1978) Andy Walker was my out and out favourite McGinlay comes a close second because of the amount of goals he scored but Walker was just incredible and scored goals no other dare attempt That 20 second goal from kickoff, that was my favourite ever AW goal because of the build up, I’m sure it was either against Huddersfield or Bradford I’m sure it was a Yorkshire club (I might be corrected) Once met Andy opening a brand new model shop in Horwich back in 93 and he drove off in a very modest but very new J reg Ford Sierra J389 SJA I recall (reg spotter😞 SuperJohn was a bit like Linker, always knew where to be and was a goal poacher, Andy was a very very intelligent striker and would often make a goal from nothing Great memories there RTF Any more??
