GOLDEN GOALS | Boro 0-1 Bolton (21.11.93)
thought it was going to be a DH vid with the mini intro featuring his catchphrase & that era.
looks like a Tony Kelly picking up a loose ball, good first touch & instant cutting pass out right to Mcateer who gains a bit of ground & crosses and inevitably a SJM header.
listening to pro's talk about those types of crosses, you're never quite sure if it's just a cross into a dangerous area, or deliberate pinpoint cross to your man put on a sixpence. does Mcateer even look up to spot SJM, if he did, i can't spot it. the strikers art shown by SJM there, just reads it so quick, gets free. times his jump while 2 Boro defenders hesitate.

trip back in time to a different era this time :
28/4/73. last game of the season 72/73. Div 3.
BEAT Brentford 2-0, and claimed the Div 3 title. includes trophy presentation
1st goal - Nicholson. (1.10) 2nd goal - John Byrom (2.10) no.2 Ritson beats his man and centres. bit of a scramble, and JB slams it home.
trophy presentation at 3.41
can't tell if that's Jimmy Armfield in red at 4.31 or not ? any thoughts ??
I think i'm right in saying we've only won the Div we've been in 4 times in our lge history, and this was one of them. not won one in the top flight or 4th tier.
this was the only time winning Div 3 ( 3rd tier ). won div 2 on 3 occasions.
1908/09 under John Somerville. the 1st proper season that we had an official manager in charge. 1977/78 under Ian Greaves . 1996/97 under Colin Todd.

linking to the above vid.
another season ending game of a year when we won the title. this time Div 2 title of 1977/78. 0-0 vs Fulham - how we didn't score i'll never know.
crowd of 34,110 to cheer them on.
Bill Maynard is even watching it. Fulham fan ??
interestingly Ritson is one of the few to be in this squad and the Div 3 promotion squad. ( in above vid ) any others ?

What a man and fan Dave Higson was I met him at Watford Gap while on our way to Gillingham might have been April 4th 1989 he interviewed me and my 4 year old Son. I remember it poured down nearly all the game but the Gillingham stewards wouldn't let us under cover until police told them to as there was only about 4 hundred of us. I wish there was someone else with his passion who could do our games on I Follow it would be brilliant a right ding dong do . Cheers for the memories stay safe one and all COYWM
