Wigan 0 Bolton 1 in the 1985/6 Freight Rover Trophy. quick bit of thinking from Jimmy Philips takes the throw early and quite long & flat straight thru' to Oghani who puts in a good low centre to Tony Caldwell. he slots it in to send the crowd wild credit this time to "Bolton 71" account on YT. another rich vein of vids from that era. www.youtube.com/channel/UCheHuNEdtzUNlmxLScs913w/videos

It would have been that same season RTF but it was at their place WBA away oops. my mistake. I had searched it as an away game but as it had come up, and had Bob Taylor scoring 2 & 2-0 final score , I presumed it was the one you had said. didn't look that closely beyond that .

2-2 at W brom this time. 1991/92.
Mark Patterson sent off. 1st goal for us from Andy Walker- header from a cross from Darby. & proving you don't need to be a giant to be getting headed goals.
2nd one. rocket of a free kick from Alan Stubbs.

23rd April 1994 - Football League Division One Bolton 4 Boro 1. hat trick for SJM. 1. SJM poaching at the back stick. not sure if that was a deliberate attempt to change the angle of attack by Walker or just a miss. guessing the latter. certainly best to miss to the Right, so SJM gets a chance at it. 2. great harrying , and ball recovery by David Lee, then another classic cross & header by SJM. yet another header by him. 3. assist by Scott Green. SJM poaching at the back stick again. that definitely didn't seem to be a shot by Green, even though he could and perhaps should have shot from there. subtle change in point of attack. makes me wonder if that was the tactic behind the 1st one too. 4. combination between Scott Green and Patterson, who then sets SG free to run thru' and finish. credit to Red rose County Dan for the vid. he's another one with another rich vein of Bwfc vids from this era from early 90's to mid 90's and some early 00's and beyond. not all Higson's obviously as those are mainly late 80's and early 90's. access direct here : www.youtube.com/channel/UC4NfNeZVLzpCMLFUqofRmTA/videos

not a Higson one this one. MOTD fa cup 1st round v Blackpool. 18/11/1989
BBC building it up as repeat of the '53 cup final. Stan Matthews & Lofty even leading out their respective teams.
we go 1-0 up. header by Dean Crombie- from a corner. then lose it 2-1.
punditry from Jimmy Hill at 26.40 could equally apply to Evatt ball. taking the extra touch. playing safe. then defence has time to cover. should take one touch..accelerate the attack.

It’s my mistake too RTF because in the 91/92 season, we beat them 3-1 at Burnden (Philliskirk 2 Michael Brown) then drew 2-2 at the Hawthorns and that’s the vid you’ve added where Walker and Stubbsie’s rocket free kick put us 2-1 up In the 92/93 season we lost twice, 2-0 at home and 3-1 at their place (Walker) and it was this game I went to when DH interviewed me, our promotion season. I thought we got beat 2-0 but either way, we got beat by 2 clear goals😞

Bolton v Watford from 1994, as goals from Owen Coyle, John McGinlay and Mark Watson (og) secured victory for the whites. 3: 1 to us.
1st one- good cross from David Lee. header by Coyle. 2nd one. cross by Tony Kelly. header ( again !) by SJM. Actually goes in off watford defender for o.g. 3rd- pen by SJM.

not a Higson this time. Granada Soccer night instead, but same era.
1994/95. Stoke 1 Bolton 1.
penultimate game of the season. fighting for automatic promotion. SJM again with the goal.
goal at approx 10.55.
Patterson wins it on the left, skips round one, and slings in a cross to the back stick. Mixu wins it and flicks to the other side where SJM heads it in. - another header !! just the type of goal we don't score enough of. Patterson puts the cross in . you don't need to get to the goal line or beat 2 or 3. Jimmy Philips moments earlier was going to cross it anyway himself but it got blocked. not sure if that was a miss by Mixu or another deliberate attempt to change the point of attack subtly at the last minute to confuse the defending side.

another Granada Soccer night. from 1995/96.
a rare bright spot in this season - a miserable PL lge campaign. finshing rock bottom.
this was a Lge cup tie away at Leicester. 3rd round replay. won 3-2 largely due to their dodgy keeper I think !
1st goal . (8.50) corner by David Lee. bit of a scramble. SJM pops it in. 2nd goal. (13.30 ) Sneekes wins it and hits a good shot , but keeper fluffs it. but you would never have known that IF you didn't shoot.
(17.10 ) Sneekes passes to Curcic and he goes on a great slaloming run and gets a shot in...that hits the post. unlucky. !!
3rd goal (18.25) corner. drifts right thru'...Curcic smashes it in.

a rare lge win from the 95/96 season. (not a DH comm ), but a good scalp , beating Arsenal 1-0 at Burnden.
SJM with the goal. looks like no.6 Stubbs with the neat pass thru'.
bit of analysis on the Arsenal defending, considering they supposedly had such a solid team under George Graham.
looks like their no. 6 Tony Adams goes to challenge for the ball with Mixu. why so high upfield with no danger there I don't know.
freeze it at 0.09. SJM probably can't believe the space he's got. the 2 defenders behind SJM seem more concerned with those 2 BWFC players out wide, yet there's a gaping hole RIGHT IN THE CENTRE OF THE DEFENCE. i think that MIGHT BE THE PRIORITY !!! . talk about..you could drive a coach and horses straight thru' it.
seems to be Keown that spots this too late. good spot by Stubbsy. you're almost not looking for that pass , as you don't expect it to be on. clinically finished off by SJM.

going even further back with this one. 64/65 away at Charlton. shocker of a pitch . . we won the toss and played towards the shallow end..as they say . decent bit of football for the goal. Bromley the scorer. just click the link to watch it on YT. extended highlights here : won 3-1 away in a Div 2 clash. 1. Franny Lee tees up Butler. (8.20 ish ). good confident play by Lee. draws the defender & keeper in, then just lays it across with outside of his boot, with a bit of disguise. 2. Franny lee with the pen. (25.20 ). 3. Bromley (37.40 - ) as per above vid.

Bolton 1 Man U 1 from 60/61.
awful kick off by us. 3 in the middle then almost lose it. ! missed pen by Hartle. poor pen. why not let Lofty or Mcadams take it.
Mcadams with our goal - header from a corner. commentator over-raving it a bit. lovely goal. great goal ?. much as i'd like us to get a few more of that type of goal, they are rarely great or lovely , and not goal of the mth contenders. commentator bit of an idiot. he's calling Mcadams...Mcparland half the time ( who was another northern irish forward, but who played for Villa at the time -peter mcparland ).
