Agree with all of that Andy and to be fair, I think IE realises that as well and now the defence and midfield seem to be functioning better, attack is probably the next area to be improved. I think the signing of a Maddison is key to that. If we can get him fit and find the right position for him, I’ve no doubt that he could be the catalyst for improving our strike rate. To be honest, I never really rated Miller but I do agree that he has fitted in well in recent games and seems a little more mobile. I don’t mean this as criticism of Doyle but I see him as a good L2 player who I think would struggle higher up, whilst Miller I think could be a better fit with the new players we have. I lost any confidence in Delfouneso long ago and it’s no surprise to me that he’s now in L2. He has brilliant cameos but goes missing for most of the game, doesn’t tackle and I don’t think I’ve seen him win a header all season. Aerial dominance is certainly a major weakness in this team but not one I’m overly worried about if we can score goals on the ground, which many teams at this level struggle with. Having Williams in the back line has certainly helped. We have not only a good, hard tackling midfield player but a third central defender too and I think the reason Baps and Rico look better is in part due to MJ. If we could get Politic back for the run in that would be great but I’d prefer to keep him for next season as long as the others can get the job done. As for Ronan, I’d be majorly surprised if he’s still here next season!!

while were not really enjoying our footie at the mo, i'll just resurrect this old Scunny thread, for an update on some more fabulous Kevin Van veen goals. played for Motherwell in 22/23. scoring 25 in 38 games for a middling club like them. the original goals vid are on page 1 of the thread if you want to look back. some amazing goals. they are like Le Tissier specials or Lee Trundles formerly of Swansea if you're familiar with him. he's 33 now, a bit past his best, but boy...i wish we'd had him at his under-rated peak. just the type of player i like. cult hero. if you only look at 2 goals ..check out his 7.42 effort. away at Celtic. on the break. goal oozes class and composure. set free with the pass... love the dribble..just run it in towards the defenders back so he can't see , and has to turn... the minute he turns , of course you turn back the other way...and what a composed, yet emphatic finish. a masterclass in finishing the way he set up the area he wanted to shoot from. like Hoddle would say...pictures in his mind. possibly Collins is the only player we have who could get close to these kind of levels if really on top of his game. one really neat finish last year that impressed me. can't remember where. next one in the vid, 8.01 . how to play the long ball with style. long kick from keeper. kills it dead, and turns past a defender all in the one movement, and calmly positions himself to slot it in the corner. majestically done !! plenty more. even the simpler finishes, there's that little touch of class to them... the 3.38 little touch directing it around the keeper. wow. not just quality, but quantity too. didn't realise he'd had this amazing phase fairly recently. see his full wiki entry. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kevin_van_Veen#MotherwellOn 2 July 2021, van Veen signed for Scottish Premiership side Motherwell.[63] His move there saw him reunited with ex-S****horpe manager, Graham Alexander.[64] He made his debut in a 1–0 win against Queen's Park in the Scottish League Cup,[65] and made his Scottish Premier League debut (and scored his first goal) in a 3–2 loss to Hibernian.[66] Despite losing the game, former Scotland internationals Steven Naismith and Chris Iwelumo praised van Veen's performance. Iwelumo commented that "[van Veen] was outstanding", while Naismith remarked "it all seemed to click" for the striker on his debut.[67] On 12 February 2022, van Veen scored in a 2–1 victory to Aberdeen.[68] After the game, van Veen claimed the Aberdeen defenders – specifically Declan Gallagher and David Bates, punched him in the ribs in an attempt to provoke a reaction.[69] Van Veen claimed there were similar actions in Motherwell's 2–0 victory over Aberdeen earlier in the year – suggesting Scott Brown tried provoking him to get him sent off.[70] In his debut campaign, van Veen scored 9 goals in 32 league appearances as Motherwell finished fifth in the 2021–22 season. On 26 July 2022, van Veen signed a one-year extension to his contract, keeping him at Motherwell until the summer of 2024.[71] van Veen opened his account for the season on the opening day, in a 1–0 victory against St Mirren.[72] van Veen has scored 25 goals, from 40 appearances, in all competitions, including hattricks against Inverness Caledonian Thistle and Ross County.[73][74] From 4 March to 28 May 2023, van Veen scored in every game – th e first time a Motherwell player scored in seven consecutive league games since Dixie Deans in the 1968–69 season.[75] On 25 May, by scoring in ten league games consecutively, he equaled Motherwell's top-flight consecutive scoring record set in 1920 by Hughie Ferguson.[76] He also equaled the consecutive scoring record of modern era Scottish football held by Mark Viduka and Marco Negri.[77][78] On 28 May, he scored in the final game of the 2022–23 season, and set a new league and club record by scoring in eleven games consecutively.[76][79] Similar to the end of 2016, another Chinese Super League club, this time Changchun Yatai, had offered Motherwell a six figure sum for the striker, but this offer was turned down.[80] For his goal scoring heroics, van Veen was named in the PFA Scotland Team of the Year and was nominated for the PFA Scotland Players' Player of the Year award.[81][82][83]
