Well I’ve set the last 2 threads up for Mansfield and Southend and predicted wins in both and we WON, so it’s only right that I go for my hat trick⚽️⚽️⚽️
It’s another one of those ‘S’ teams again and we do seem to do well against them (fingers crossed)
Scrappy and a reet old ding dong do, I’ll go with another ugly 1-0 win 2 red cards and a missed penalty from them
COYWM This is it, this is the moment. We’re only 5 points behind Morecambe having played the same amount of games and they’re top of the Play-Off pile and just 6 points off an automatic spot (give or take the games in hand) but we should go for every game now like it’s the Play Off final and let’s see where we end up. ⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️

I agree rftr, we need to go out to win every game now and whilst it’s unlikely we will win them all, there isn’t really any good reason why we can’t. The problem is, we still aren’t fulfilling the potential we have within the squad. We should have beaten Southend comfortably on Saturday but yet again we fail to convert our chances and end up struggling to get results. I think it’s probably time to give Doyle a rest and though I’m not sure Miller is the answer he’s probably the only other recognised striker we have. Winning games is obviously about scoring goals and it’s undoubtedly the biggest weakness in our team. Maybe when he’s properly settled in, Maddison will score a few and hopefully Arthur will increase his tally but I just hope it doesn’t end up holding us back. Fortunately the defence looks better, including Lee and Williams in front of it giving extra support. The opposition running straight through us as they were doing in the early part of the season seems to have been stopped so we are at least more difficult to beat but to win we have to improve our scoring. The Scunny games a tricky one but I can’t really see them causing us problems if we are on form so like you I’ll go for a scrappy win but 2-1 to the Whites.

In defence of Marcus Maddison I think it may be worth pointing out that even in his brief appearances he has probably doubled ( or thereabouts) the shots in earnest we have had on goal. His two on Saturday were proper shots, one almost leading to a goal by Doyle and the other fizzing narrowly over. He is always looking to shoot
I think it would be fair to say that the standard of shooting in the league has been really poor. We saw what could happen when a Mansfield player took Gilks on and indeed when Maddison shot on Saturday.
I have mentioned this before but thinking back I can remember John's goal, one wild hit from Gnahoua, a half decent shot from Thomason, a good effort from Tutte, a left footer from Jones in an early game and lots of mishits by Doyle that don't really count.
Also I'm not counting all Crawfords' or Doyle's side footed curly shots or Sarcevic's-- credit to Doyle that some have gone in, but most have gone weakly to he keeper and Crawford's almost all went limply to the keeper or wide. Gnahoua's Mansfield winner was our goal of the season but it was a placed shot. Delfouneso has tried one or two from the edge of the penalty area but all have been tame.
I'm thinking of good old fashioned take a sight, put foot through and wellie with a decent chance of being on target and forcing a save. being of my vintage I think of the Bobby Charlton style shot in the 66 World cup and many times otherwise. And BWFC have had some excellent shooters. I mentioned Anelka the other day and we all will perhaps call to mind Richard Sneekes or Frandsen, Okocha, Alan Thompson and any number of others who at one time or another have been able to hit free kick goals (Jensen, Nolan, Blake, Okocha ( Villa), Stubbs and from open play on occasion Bergsson, Gardner. There are lots. I can get back to Gareth Williams, Roy Hartle with BWFC and many will remember Peter Lorimer for Leeds- he of the famously hard shot or Le Tissier, Beckham, Gerrard... At Bolton very recently Dobbie could do it if ever allowed on and Madine learnt to do it just before he was sold.
Hopefully, Maddison has brought back the shot. So, I have to disagree with marc Iles who found him at a loss in the ground and somewhat limp. In my opinion the period were Maddison was on was the time when we looked like we might score and it was no coincidence. If he can get fitter I expect to see more chances arising from this willingness to shoot and with luck it will be infectious.

I 100% agree with that Andy, despite his inconsistent performances so far, Maddison always looks to go forward and is looking to shoot at any opportunity. Like you, I hope this encourages others to do the same because the keepers at this level are questionable at best and if we just make sure we get it on target, I’m sure we’ll get results from it. Even if it doesn’t go in, we can benefit from spills or follow ups by others. We do have players who can shoot besides Maddison. Obviously Gnahoua can, Sarcevic, Dapo, Fonz can and even the likes of Jones, John and Tutte can blast one. It also unnerves the oppositions defence when they are afraid of shots coming in, so let’s hope instead of passing around the box, more players take the chance to pull the trigger, I’m sure it would pay dividends. A start tomorrow would be good and I think if Madman was to get one, it could fire him up even more, as well as quieten his detractors.

think we can win this one. will be tougher than some of these others "S" teams we won against in the reverse fixtures ( scunny, southend and stevenage) . we've already done the double over the other 2. but now Scunny have won 4 in a row. and have better players like Taft and Karacan and the fabulous Kevin Van Veen. he's their Maddison type player. maverick . individual. can win a game out of absolutely nothing. he's been injured most of the season. had one comeback..was instantly brilliant, then injured again. but just back last game. instantly got an assist. a real threat if he's fit.
don't remember seeing one this classy or cheeky in even MM's collection of best goals.
like i say , they've won 4 in a row, but the opposition haven't been great... ( harrogate, port vale, colchester, grimsby ) ..all bottom half , and 3 of the 4 are bottom half of the bottom half ! they have had clean sheets in 3 of those 4.
i'll go for a win by a one goal margin. not sure between 1-0 and 2-1. i'll say 2-1.

For some reason, I am more concerned about this match than I was about the previous 2 away games.
I think it comes down to the fact that we haven’t really dominated home games as I think we should.
Two sides both on a decent run. The same comment that they have only played low-down teams in their good runs applies to both Scun.thorpe and us.
I would like to see Sarcevic in ahead of Delfouneso and the other 10 to remain the same.
I hope we don’t dive into major changes to “rest” players.
Regular comment that I would like to see a sub keeper on the bench.
Got to be positive but I hope we can dominate better at home but still a 2-0 win tonight.

Agree David, couldn’t believe that line up when I saw it. I can understand resting Lee but why start Isgrove and Delfouneso, who rarely actually produce anything. Hopefully they’ll make me eat my words, though I wouldn’t bet on it and I hope it doesn’t take Evatt long to realise his mistake and get Maddison, Gnahoua and Sarcevic on instead. Surprised no Miller on the bench yet Comley’s there? No keeper again so let’s hope we don’t need one but I really do despair of Evatt that he stubbornly refuses to accept that it may come back to bite us when Comleys chances of getting on the field are probably nil anyway. Nervous about tonight and even more so seeing that starting eleven. I’m hoping we’ll win but it wouldn’t surprise me if we slipped up.

Risk- risking the whole game and could be damaged by losing by a huge score if Gilks, a veteran picks up a knock.
Reward- Comley gets to sit on the bench with little chance of getting on.
Dont get it. Dont also get paying any money for another keeper and playing none.
Understand forced changes. Lee wont be an ever present but dont know how Isgrove can get the nod before Ghanoua. He must have been "Trainer of the week".

ooh that team news is a little concerning. OM's previous theory about KL Covid deflection possibly looking a touch stronger. strong bench as you might expect, although obviously not strong in the g/k or centre back areas . still think we can win, but less certain.

A bit nervous now. Starting with ten as we are with Delfouneso is a risk especially with no Lee. But Thomason is a good player
But if we can stay in there our subs are good, so we'll see if they can match Van Deen.
Good to see Karacan again. One of many PP never understood

Maybe changing ends means we might win the first half for once??

Great play by the whites but as usual no end product and Howard not a save to make. We just have no cutting edge at all.

Great build up play, probably the best of the season but how poor are we up top? Dapo poor tonight, let’s hope he picks up in the second half?

So our run of luck continues with a pretty soft penalty. Well dispatched by Doyle and I can’t say we don’t deserve it, we’ll on top and dominated the game but we really are woeful around goal, all our good build up play totally wasted. Let’s hope we don’t do our usual second half surrender and go on to win comfortably. Scunny not at the races, surely they can’t be this poor in the second half?
