In fairness to Delaney, he was frequently given poor sideways passes by Santos, leaving him only one option - a long clearance upfield. Add to this that our right side forward is far stronger in the air thanks to Kioso, it was a recipe forlost possession and groans. I agree that he's looked a bit off the pace defensively, but recovered somewhat in the second half. I'm still not sure about Jones on the left side. To me, we look far better down the right. Having said all that, a good win, sealed by an excellent goal when we were by no means at our best.

Agree with all that Alp, but to be fair to Santos, Delaney seemed unnecessarily slow on the ball, often taking a touch too many and allowing the attackers to close him down. As you say, in the second half he seemed to speed up and his distribution was much better. I think Jones is doing a decent job on the left but I suspect is only really there because IE doesn’t really have any better options. Neither Maskell or Gordon have proved suitable in the wing back position and I expect that to be one of the first additions he makes in January. Another must be a decent striker, we’re still terribly poor around the box and unless Doyle gets the right service, which he doesn’t currently, he won’t be prolific. Delfouneso isn’t the partner for him, they never work together and Miller looks average at best. All that said, I thought tonight was just about the most complete performance of the season and the team are getting better every week as they start to form partnerships and understand each other’s games. I can’t see us losing many if they keep this up but likewise, I can’t see us winning convincingly either until we strengthen up top. Let’s hope we can do that in January and chase down the automatic places.

After losing the first 5 games and the stop start results after that, if someone had told me this, beat Southend and you’ll be in the play off positions, I’d be ordering the straight jacket😬😬
Is it no coincidence that since the dropping of Crellin, Baptiste can breathe easy and we get a better tune out of him with experience behind him (Gilks)
Whisper it quietly but we are marching to the top😬😬 Still not convinced with Evatt
Wish we had the coin to snare Joe Garner as he’s a free transfer having left Wigan Pathetic, be good to see a front 2 of him and Doyle
Looks like Benny Hill could be changing the fortunes of Trashmere, just hope he doesn’t become the new John Aldridge and gloat if he ever gets a good result against us
So, it’s Southend, Port Vale and Walsall up next with Walsall looking like the only team out of the 3 that we need worry about having seen them get a creditable draw against Newport last night, proving that any team can get a result in this league and no one is a clear out and out favourite to go up COYWM

I would expect Newport, Oldham and Tranmere to fall down in that list rtf and ourselves and Salford to prosper. I think Newport are definitely over performing and don’t expect it to last and the same with Oldham but I’d actually like to see KH do well, just a shame it’s at Tranmere, so I can’t hope he does until next season. For the others, I just see the win one week lose the next performance, so if we keep improving as we are and can add one or two better quality players in January, I think we can definitely make the top 3.

Thats what encourages me, i dont see us 2nd half of the season ever going 5 without a win. So if we're in with a shout at play offs after a mediocre at best campaign the possibilities are endless.
Our biggest threat its ourselves. I still think theres miles more to come and probably some bad days too.
Pleased for Evatt. He did deserve a lot more patience than he was given by some. Admittedly he didnt/hasnt always made it easy to back but you pay £250k and hand out a 3 year contract and a complete rebuild you dont give that man 8 games before sacking him.

regular users of youtube will know, once you search for one video, your recommendations get flooded with more of the same. having searched out some Kevin van Veen vids for the preview post. I just clicked on one more. impressive stuff. can't believe he's not more widely known.... Lee Trundle was getting wider publicity when he was doing it in the lower Div's. this fella is exactly the same...le Tissier type goals. thought i'd share a few more.
the one at 1.54 is probably my fave of these. the curler at 2.55 also pretty special. several of the rest are worth a watch too. doesn't score many scruffy ones.
special one here at 0.52/0.53. back to goal. basically shoots blind. great shot.
quality of strike here. power, curl, accuracy & ...clever sorting out of the feet first.
if you've got time on your hands ..try this 10 mins long.. but you're 10 mins won't be wasted. ...several corkers near the end from 8.48 onwards right to the end.

Certainly a game winner and certainly something we are missing. Plays with confidence, not afraid to have a go. Good job he didn't play against us, 'cos I'm sure the result wouldn't have gone our way.
At 29 he still isn't old and you wonder why he is stuck at the bottom of Lge 2.
