I think Doyle is the key again tonight. Personal level i would prefer to see Isgrove partner up instead of Fonz. I dont see that as much of a partnership and think Delf often gives himself a day off if hes not seen as the main man.
My views on Doyle pasted from BN "Doyle is hugely important but I get the feeling Doyle will be a bit disappointed not to convert his single goals into braces and hat tricks. Hes on the list of top scorers now albeit down near the bottom. Ive no doubt he wants to be back at the top and when you score the opening goal as he has done for us in the previous matches, plus Harrogate, i'm sure he really wants to get going."
I did think this was at UniBol so i'm a bit less confident(although weve won as many away, weve also conceded 3 at Barrow, 4 at Orient) 0-0 or 1-1 i think would suit a lot. Keep the engine ticking over. I know some will think from here we should go and win every game. Dont see it that way but a win would be very nice.

A win would be very nice OM but I think we’re underestimating Scunny who have picked up lately. I’m hoping for a win but I’m worried it will be yet another banana skin so sadly I’m going 2-0 to the Irons.

I don't understand Evatt's thinking. We didn't have a sub goalie for god knows how long and now Gilks is in goal he puts Crellin on the bench. What is it with this loanee, who doesn't impress. Is it 5 subs and that's why?

A good start - maybe should have been ahead but we have faded badly.
Last 20 minutes quite worrying

Is it me or has Delaney gone off in the last couple of games? He’s so slow moving the ball forward, constantly taking an extra touch and being closed down? Yet again, no composure up top, everything rushed and no real cutting edge. Can somebody also enlighten me what Delfouneso does other than very little. Even when he got a chance of a shot it was no more than a pass back to Mark Howard. Get him off and Darcy on to run at their defence otherwise I can only see a blank for us. Still stick to my 2-0 to Scunny I’m afraid.

Well, I’ll gladly eat my words on Fonz, great piece of play and good finish by Kioso. Thoroughly deserved the win tonight, another resolute performance. One of 3 for MoM I think, Tuttle, Santos and Baptiste but I think I’d have to go for Baptiste, never put a foot wrong. Delaney improved at half time, wonder what IE said to him. Still not turning possession into goals though, should have won much more comfortably tonight. No composure in and around the box, final ball wasted and nobody willing to run at defenders other than Fonz for the goal. More of that and we might eventually get a penalty too. Good win that, now up to 13th so another win on Saturday and we’ll be right on the shoulders of the play offs.

Delaney sees such a lot of the ball, but doesn't use it very well. His defending is not too bad. Regarding the rest was just hoping to see Kioso and Delfouneszo subbed when they combined for the winner. But really am not too sure about either in the general scheme of things. Sarcevic is good but he gave the ball away a lot tonight. Well served again tonight by Sancho and old man Baptiste. Would still like to see more holding by the midfield. Three points is three points, however.

A very tough game tonight so I will take a 1-0 win but we don’t half make hard work of some of these games, it always seems like we score and then allow the opposition to get back into it another great save from Gilks 4 wins on the bounce now let’s keep up the great work. Onwards and upwards it’s great to see us going upwards it’s took some time and finally removing a certain person long may it continue. Well done IE and the whole team stay safe one and all COYWM

A great result.
A very good first 20 minutes and then a bit of a fade away
We really should have been well ahead after 20 minutes but somehow lost our way.
Second half, we did enough to earn a win and congratulations to Delfouneso with a brilliant dribble.
We then seemed satisfied to play out time which we did well. I wish we would go for a second goal as my nerves can’t take many more last few minutes
Marks:-
Gilks - 7 Just a good goalkeeper. Not a great deal to do but did it exactly right.
Kioso - 6 Good goal and combined well with Baptiste
Jones - 6 Not as good as Saturday but still OK
Baptiste - 7 Another good performance
Santos - 7 Good – again
Delaney - 6 A few mistakes tonight and his passing went to pot
Tutte - 8 Very good. Always in the right position
Sarcevic - 6 Not as dominant as usual and some poor passes in second half
Crawford - 6 A few neat touches but couldn’t dominate
Delfouneso - 6 Quiet until a superb dribble set up our winner
Doyle - 6 Busy but not too much service to him
Isgrove
Miller
Darcy

A good win in a game we dominated but didn't really take by the scruff of the neck. I kept seeing our deficiencies but argued with myself that they were also strengths. The real strengths of the team are defensive and with Jones and Kioso it's difficult for opponents to get past our flanks but in equal measure our capacity to attack on the wings is diminished. This notably improved with the addition of Isgrove who, if in midfield, as had Delfouneso before him got some purchase form their weaker left defence which at times looked very vulnerable
A real strength of the first thirty was the hunting in packs. But it couldn't keep going in part because Delfouneso was ambling about and not really engaging. Also whether from a throw in , a free kick or just a ball to Tutte we as often as not played sideways and backward at a pedestrian tempo, I thought Crawford had one of his better games tonight and was the principal architect of much that was good. Doyle also ran his socks off and although fluffing his one real chance as did Crawford I thought he did well and lasted the game better than of late since his return, so that's promising.
At the back Santos is really strong on the ball but he still looks capable of being sliced through if turning. Gilks has made a huge difference to his radar. I'd be a hypocrite if I was too against the passing out from the back as if I've clamoured for this approach for twenty years or more yet an error still looks possible. I do think we are doing it better and again Gilks is the key.. You could see S****horpe had done their homework and knew that Delaney if hustled is a potential weakness. In this game they really got at him and he crumbled making error upon error. It doesn't help him that Jones so often is turned to face him but his long and short passing tonight was dreadful and his midfield had to bale him out repeatedly.
They had a ten minute patch threatening little at the end of the first half.
In the second we got on top. Although Sarcevic was firing a mixture of blanks and bullets and missed a lot of passes , he is our best player and he keeps going. Tonight one good shot and a lot of tackles were his contribution. Crawford for once hit a couple of really good dead ball kicks.
Delfouneso despite getting caught in possession through a failure to look up more than once had a purple patch on the ball and weaving his way through some flimsy challenges he set up Kioso perfectly for a very good goal indeed. Not for the first time I wondered if Evatt will ever bite the bullet and give Kioso a run up alongside Doyle. He has a bit of something when central and later got his head on the ball but tried to score when a knock down to Doyle looked the way to go.
Time went on , the game petered out. Miller and Isgrove added a bit of energy and we got through with a couple of clever but easy saves by Gilks steadying the ship at the two crucial moments.
Leaving best to last I find myself surprised to be saying this but I thought Baptiste was our man of the match, faultless in defence and strong moving forward. He got one shot away too and for the second time this season missed a header from close range that would have crowned his performance
Onward and upward but with just about everything been a mix of positive and negative?
Gilks 7 Baptiste 8 Santos 7 Delaney 3 Tutte 7 Crawford 7 Jones 6 Kioso 6 Doyle 6 Delfouneso 6 Sarcevic 6 Miller 4 Isgrove 5

looking into Decembers fixtures, I was expecting it to get tough after these 3 winnable games we are in the midst of. but they don't ..Port vale ( who've just lost their last 4 ) & Walsall ( in 16th place at the mo ). gets a bit tougher then Mid december.
3 trickier games . but if we can stay unbeaten & build even more momentum, you're ready to face anyone.
back to the present...just got to keep focus for Southend. no slip ups. they've lost again tonight & failed to have a single shot on target.

Is it too easy to say that the difference is down to Gilks replacing Crellin?
No, its just that. Assume its only contractual agreements that puts Crellin in the side above Alexander or an additional outfield sub.
