In fairness to WS63’s argument, I think we should acknowledge that Evatt’s desired playing style has not been regularly or fully produced by the teams he selected. So, for many of Doyle’s games, he never got much service because we were messing about passing sideways and back. I also think most of us would agree that our best play of the season ( at least from defence to midfield and into the last third) has been first half against Bradford and the opening part last night. But it all broke down because we are so short up front. That clearly led to a dropping of morale and falling away of performance ( as it often does when teams do not turn good spells into good leads). I still think we need a solid, back to goal forward to receive the ball when we have to play it long. It’s a gap in the squad as glaring as an adequate keeper. While mistakes have clearly been made, I think there has been some progress, but Evatt’s big job now is to stop the rot of low morale leading to poor performance and underachievement. I think he has it all on to succeed, but he has my support.

If Ian Evatt signed a 6 month deal there is no doubt i'd be saying its not worked move on.
Hes already cost us £250k, people are talking about garden leave for 3 years. Can we really afford that? We furloughed most staff, believe theres a £3M debt to be paid by August(yeah, they may be able to renegotiate. Maybe they cant).
We cannot waste that type of money.
Other people have said bring Big Sam back? Hes probably on a salary from Everton not to manage. Hes not coming back to L2 to work with Sunday league players. Get real. It wont be Sam, Pulis, Martin O'Neill, etc Wont even be Mick McCarthy. Kevin Nolan aint leaving West Ham. It aint happening.
Realistic possibly Brown? Chris Powell and Stephen Reid again?
Why would Paul Crook leave Wigan in similar circumstances to come here?
I'll go on record now and say, and though Sunday and Tuesday post matches may be a different tune, I would keep Evatt until Summer minimum. If we drop into relegation that may change. But my personal theory is that a couple of clubs in this league may be entering administration this year and Southend look gone. So i think a few clubs may get hit -12 and we stay up regardless. Poor way of doing things but hey weve suffered from the rules, why not benefit for a season.

Be careful Alp, you’re not allowed to see any positives in what IE is doing or rtf will be after you with the stats!! 😀 Seriously though, I’m not in any way trying to overlook the mistakes Evatts made or the poor squad choices or in game substitutions he’s made. I’m not overlooking the crazy decision to keep playing Crellin or not having a keeper on the bench because I’m as perplexed as anyone else about it all.
I am though appreciating the periods of positive and exciting football which we are seeing and never saw with Parky but I do accept that we can’t play that all the time and sometimes need to dig in. I accept the fact this is a new squad and a young manager learning as he goes but he’s also been robbed of important players who would have made a difference. I just want to give him time but if after January he’s no better then I accept it may be time to rethink

I don't think many on here are advocating his sacking just yet, mainly trying to point out whom he should select for the purpose of improving performances. If he can't see a simple fact like the need to relieve Crellin of his duties in the greater interest of performance ( and indeed gives him the security of no sub) how can we believe in him to rectify other faults? Sometimes when performances lapse or a key player like Doyle, is missing you need to show imagination and seek a temporary solution. Ian Evatt is doing none of that, and that is why people on the BN site are calling for his head. With a little determination and creative thinking he can stop all that, and it surprises me, 63, that you are prepared to give him a blank cheque, albeit till January. On the FV front and their apparent constipation I still believe that their consultant, Peter Kenyon, is the eminence grise, who has promised to lead them to a land of milk and honey, albeit full of snarling locusts at present, us the true supporters.

A few said Crellin could have been sent off in 1st min against Leyton Orient. Remember though that rules have changed and the double jeopardy rule means if you make an attempt to play the ball and concede its a yellow. So only a 2nd yellow(very unlikely) or violent conduct would lead to a red. So really only injury would leave us short. Can you remember how many times our GK went off injured? 1 a decade?

Fair point OM but surely with 7 subs now is it not at least sensible to make one of them a GK? Not only that but in our case it keeps Matt Alexander up with things and feeling part of the squad. Also, when you consider that almost without exception, the changes IE makes are the same ones every time so the likes of Taft and Greenidge never get on anyway.

Most interesting....can't think why Marc Iles doesn't follow up with some of these Twitter views. Or why doesn't he dig a bit deeper into the Peter Kenyon consultancy and the part he has played in the current situation, and what is his influence on Football Ventures. WE all know Peter was acting chairman at Manu and then at Chelsea. He acted on behalf of an unnamed person to try to buy Chelsea and then Newcastle without success, I wonder if he is representing that unnamed person at The Unibol, or working independently. Apart from the team's performance he could be helping, but it would seem necessary for us supporters to know - good, bad or indifferent.
