www.theboltonnews.co.uk/sport/11472956.Pressure_on_Dougie_Freedman_mounts_from_terraces/?ref=mr#commentswell, not that phrase exactly..Iles admits it's a paraphrased line..but the spirit of it is there. “ I am desperate to be top of the league but I’m a very realistic person and I know that the clubs up there are spending money that we simply don’t have. My job has been to balance the books and make sure we keep some spirit and some fight, and I think I have done that. " what utter tripe.. we're in a relegation fight and he's talking about top of the league, and he's telling us to get real !!?!?!?! www.theboltonnews.co.uk/sport/11472986.THE_MONDAY_BIG_MATCH_VERDICT___Bolton_Wanderers_0_Sheffield_Wednesday_0/?ref=var_0#commentsexcellent comment by "the hand" under this article : Also dougie say remember where we are not where we were fine dougie this time last season where were we same place on a ten match win less streak you blamed that on certain players not being on board you get your own players in sorry your palace cast offs are we really any better off
even Iles has a dig at him for his constant financial excuses : Explaining away the poor start, Freedman rather unwisely chose to play the financial card. In doing so with such regularity, he is losing the precious few who sympathise with his plight.when chief regime prop-up merchant Iles, is having digs, maybe there are signs of an imminent managerial change .

Great comment from greymanic under the pressure mounting from the terraces
"I have never booed the Whites, or chanted derogatory comments towards manager or players, but my patience with Mr Freedman's approach to management is wearing dangerously thin...last week he remarked in the Bolton News about the qualities of the 2 young full backs, Threlkeld and White, both of whom have shown at least as much skill and ability as some of the defenders brought in by the manager. On Saturday neither were even on the bench, despite the circumstances which led to Tim Ream, a left-sided player, being selected at right back, and a bench with no defensive cover....would Mr Freedman care to explain the logic and wisdom behind this selection, yet another snub for young players who must eventually begin to fell totally under-appreciated by their manager. We are told repeatedly that the aim is to give younger players a chance, but this meaningless mantra is repeatedly undermined by the continuing acquisition of loanees whose ability often seems no better than the youngsters whose progress becomes stifled by their presence. A rare highlight of last season was the match at the Reebok for which Ream was selected in midfield,,,...his performance was excellent, and was the basis for one of the better team displays of the season. Why this selection has not been repeated since is something only the manager can answer, but seems indicative of the manager failing to make the best use of the players at his disposal, and that is HIS responsibility. There are any number of clubs in the championship with little or no money available for team strengthening, and who would probably love to have some of the players we have...Bogdan, Lee, Spearing, Ream, Wheater, Mark Davies, Medo, Beckford, McNaughton, Mills, here surely are at least 10 players who should be more than capable performers at Championship level. Some have been unlucky with injuries, but too many players have consistently under-performed over the past 2 seasons, have not been deployed in positions which make the most of their strengths, or have simply been excluded despite performing well in previous games. If you keep telling players they are too tired, or not at the required level of fitness or maturity for selection in " My Team" then those players are likely to succumb to the self-fulfilling prophecy created by the manager's philosophy. Being one of many supporters who have witnessed the team's demise to the lowest tier of the Football League I do not need to be told to "get real", or to be assailed with unfounded reasons put forward for poor results, I simply want to see capable players playing to the best of their abilities, with some consistency. That is as "Real" as it needs to get!"

On this weeks football league show, Steve Claridge stated,"the sign of a good manager is not winning the league, but getting the best out of what you've got" Is DF getting the best out of what he's got?

I want to be a fly on the wall when Marc Iles meets Dougie. The impression I get is that he sets the Dictaphone on the table and lets Dougie spiel off his utter nonsense and then leaves to do his write up. Adding one or two negative but disguising it as "some sections of the fans think" or such.
I know he has to keep on an amicable terms with the club but I'm sure deep down as a journalist/reporter/fan he has to take a tougher stance while still being professional.
I would love him to pick up on Dougies continuing contradictions and ask him direct. You said that this was a better bunch of people and now you're saying to "get real" Do you have faith in this squad?" "You said your bound by financial fair play but you've got a very large squad many that you brought in?" "You have said how you are developing the youth? Who exactly, why did we have a left sided centre back playing right back in front of two players that have impressed in the small opportunities we've seen?" "Last week Craig Davies was hailed as a new player. Left out ever since. Beckford scores twice, sub the net game, tried to flog him the week after. Why?" "Last season you said a left back was priority, and signed midfielders. This season its strikers. You've signed more midfielders. Whats the thinking there. Strikers don't grow on trees? No other club seem to have the woes in that department that we have. When Bury came and lost you said they weren't unlucky, there's no such thing in football. All we've heard since is how bad our luck has been.I'm convinced if we play Bury 10 times this season we'll be beat 7 or 8 times
Its pretty obvious that they guy is an egomaniac and a poor football manager and its not a good mix. He'll talk up his game and blame any one he can rather than take responsibility. I think it took a 7-1 mauling for him to say that wasn't good enough, the only time i've heard him say it. No idea why he wasn't sacked immediately after that.
I'm really worried that with him being Gartside's executioner and 4th awful appointment and with Eddie Davies putting no pressure on that Dougie will eventually stay and get a new contract. This happens and I really don't know how low we go.

Sky sports quote Owen garvan saying in the BEN that "Palace ave come on leaps and bounds in the last two years". Since our Dougie left by any chance? and that is no doubt why they have let him go out on loan, because he isn't good enough for them, and guess what? Just like most of the other losers that DF has brought to the club, he isn't good enough for us either !!!!
