Completely off topic, but as it's football related thought this was the place for it. Such a shame that a national hero has become this, almost homeless and admitted to hospital after another binge session I know it's all his own doing, but still can't help feeling sorry for him.

Shame kazooki, he was so good and could have channeled all his experience on to youngsters. He found his friends were just hangers on and couldnt handle it, i have seen it happen to others and it will always happen...

A true world star, without doubt one of the greatest English talents of all time. A great shame but what wonderful memories so let's focus on those.

I bet good ole Jimmy 5 Bellies couldn't give a shit how he looks after siphoning tons if cash off him over the years. National tragedy. He's on his way out and won't see 50 unless someone helps him Thanks for that memory V our very own Colin Hendry. Greatest England goal I've ever seen for sure

The lad has had the world and it's media on his back since he was 17 years old, 30 years on and some great football moments on and he looks like a 97 year old and all this because he could not handle fame and more importantly drink, what a stark warning to all young footballers who earn more money than what they can handle, what a crying shame

Greatest England goal I've ever seen for sure He has had help, many times over, with re-hab etc. Unfortunately, the only person who can really help him is himself, and he seems incapable of seeing what he is doing to himself. Sad really.

I see that Harry Redknapp has offered him a coaching role at QPR .. hope it helps him turn things around.

So many people have tried to help him over they years but as rtf says, unless he helps himself it's all for nothing. Array even offered to pick him up each morning and drop him off but Gazza didn't want to get out of bed. He's a lost cause sadly but it's not for the want of people trying.

The points you raise makes me think of one person!! Scott Sinclair.... This kid has the world at his feet. Earning top dollar, pretty tasty hunnee in Helen Flanagan, £5m pad, plays for the current champions of England and yet looks destined to fall by the wayside, albeit, not into drink or drugs, although there's time yet!! At one point, he wasn't even playing football fBut these kids are paid far too much money. There is no footballing incentive once you've reached that prized transfer to a 'BIG' club with stacks of cash to throw around.

I was about to add (before this phone automatically created my post) that this kid was not even playing football at all even when fit, as he wasn't selected for the reserves but was still pocketing around £30k per week.... Astounding Yes, for sure, there will he another talented Gascoigne waiting to emerge and also waiting to fall, just like Paul
