Really really scrappy. But I will accept scrappy wins at this stage of the season. Overall though, it was a pretty average performance. Doesn't matter now. Derby have made a season from scrappy wins so we're well due one. That 2nd goal important for GD too.

Well we said before kick off that a scrappy win would be fine as long as we got the 3 points.
Well, that was a very scrappy win.
We lacked fluency in midfield and the ball wouldn’t stick with the attack.
Bristol could complain that they had most of the attacking but our defence held them well apart from the first 5 or 6 minutes of the 2nd half when we could have conceded 2. Baxter made a miracle save to claw out a header and then there was a frantic scramble in the area where shots rained in.
Somehow we survived and replied by scoring. Thomason won a 50/50 in midfield and put a lovely cross field pass into the right of goal where we had men over. Bodvarsson let it run on for Collins who dinked the ball over the keeper.
That knocked the wind out of Bristol for a while.
The first half had been a non-event. We had most of the possession but created little and Bristol had a couple of shots which Baxter saved well.
Overall thought the first half was a write–off.
Second half, we survived the early pressure which was scary as we looked all over the shop but Collins got the goal to settle us.
But we didn’t really settle too well and allowed Bristol to have most of the ball and come at us. Defensively, we had tightened up from the start of the half and Baxter was a calming figure at the back.
We created little and just sat back and held on OK until the last minute of extra time when Jerome got clear down the right and got their defender to lunge in and give away a penalty. Clever play by Jerome.
Morley scored an excellent penalty.
Not the greatest game or performance but it’s 3 points and we all look to Wycombe on Wednesday and hope that Derby do not win.
Marks:-
Baxter - 8 An excellent save at the start of the 2nd half. Some good catching.
Dacres-Cogley - 6 Did all right but his attacking play created little
Toal - 7 Defended well. Start of the 2nd half was frantic but did well
Santos - 7 Similarly, did well. Apart from the first 5 or 6 minutes of the second half when we could have conceded two, the defence was OK
Iredale - 7 Solid with some strong defending
Ogbeta - 6 OKish but, like Dacres-Cogley, the final ball into the box left a lot to be desired
Sheehan - 6 Struggled to gain control. Some nice little turns and passes but overall he could not dominate the game
Maghoma - 7 Best of the midfield with some good positive play. But he does have a tendency to get caught in possession on the halfway line
Thomason - 6 He won possession and put a great ball forward for Collins’ goal but apart from that he looked a little lost. Like Sheehan, he couldn’t dominate the opposition
Bodvarsson - 6 Struggled to keep hold of the ball but still some nice touches
Collins - 7 Took his goal supremely well. Some nice touches but, as a team, our attacking was pretty limited
Dempsey - 6 Busy but could not really get into the game
Jerome - 6 Won the penalty tremendously well (is that 3 he has won now?)
Morley - 6 Took the penalty excellently

Carlisle relegated today. Left me wondering how the hell they took 3 points at our place?

Yes it’s results like that that cost you OM and I suppose to be fair we could say the same about other teams and games they should have won. Yet another penalty for Portsmouth and what’s most annoying is the only one they weren’t given was at Pride Pary the other night which would have denied Derby the point they lead by. In fact Derby have scrabbled so many points, including against us, but that’s sometimes what it takes I’m afraid. Very big week coming up and hopefully Wycombe take something off Derby and then we don’t slip up against Portsmouth who hopefully again will be denied any penalties? 🥴

Just hope the momentum slide does go in Wycombe’s favour with a decent win today at the BSM Final followed by a hard fought win or draw against Derby, that would put a big smile on my face and many others I’m sure
Come on Wanderers (the other ones)

They have nothing to play for in the league so they can afford a few hangovers. No extra time please. Maybe a Posh win and see how they deal with after the Lord mayor show like we did last season.

Just noticed the debate going on the BEN about Jerome you would think he’s the one that’s scoring the goals left right and centre he won us a penalty ffs and barged a few defenders is that all he has to do to get his wages well I don’t think it’s worth it. We need a younger hungrier striker not an old has been. He should be offered a coaching position if he’s that fantastic.

I agree on a younger player in the long run OM but in the situation we’re in with striker injuries we don’t have much choice and to be fair, despite not scoring he’s won us a couple of very important penalties so without that we’d probably be contemplating the play offs not still going for automatic. He seems to have some influence off field too and I think it’s likely he will be coaching from next season either here or elsewhere. More important Wycombe lost to Posh so I don’t know whether that’s good or bad for us on Wednesday when they play Derby but at last there wasn’t any extra time or injuries for them so hopefully they should be fit to go?

Anyone have any idea on Charles?
I thought him and Baxter were ready to return together!!!
Have I missed summat??
Thought Baxter did well yesterday but I also think Coleman could have fared the same, so I was a bit perplexed with Coleman being dropped and Baxter returning.
Saying that though, I’d say that if Charles is fit and ready to go against Pompey, then for me, he has to start, but who does he replace as Collins and Bod have been doing ok and we need Bods awareness and control with back to goal in the Pompey box just in case we manage to lump balls up there and Collins is really showing what he’s about so he should also start

That's Chips view not mine Whites. Since you ask. I do agree with both. The rhetoric whenever he comes on is how important he is makes you think he gives up his own time to come, help out, clears the pitch on snowy days and washes the kits. He is getting paid to play his 20m a week. I think of the squad he's probably on the most money in terms of salary to minutes. Ultimately we have 3 fit strikers. Well 2 and Jerome so what's the point saying he should be gone. Maybe if Connor Carty was available there would be some debate. Of the veteran strikers we've had Gudjohnson, Heskey, Ameobi etc Jerome seems the one who looks completely unable to put in 90 mins. Some fans think he's destined to get his Wilbraham moment. But that's nonsensical. You can't plan those. It would like playing Joel Coleman up front and hoping he has a "Jimmy Glass" moment.
