Great post davidm
If last nights levels of energy, forward pressing, forward moving, excellent passing and shooting when goal is in sight carries on onto Saturday, then Derby will not live with us.
Yes, they have danger men, Barkhuizen, Gayle, Mendez-Lang, Waghorn, Hourihane et-al, but then we have Sheehan, JDB, Collins, JDC, Maghoma, Ogbeta, Williams, GT, Toal
Yes, they might score one, they might score 2, but if we take last night to Pride Park, we’ll score 3, that’s how I see it and only Evatt can compromise that with his team selections.
It doesn’t need major surgery Ian, it might not even need a hastily rushed back Dion Charles, just run with whatever side you selected before kick-off and whatever team talk you gave, keep it the same
Let’s do what we’re brilliant at, rather than counter that by worrying about what the Rams want to do to us and go at em from the off.
Just one other thing, before our kickoff at 8, I watched a bit of the Derby v Reading game and when the ball went out of play, or any long delays, I flipped back over to watch a few mins more. The observations were, Reading were containing them well and although Gayle scored from a free kick, which I still maintain that any VAR would have ruled out, they had to rely on a penalty and a sending off to win. Their back line couldn’t deal with a few attacks from Reading and Readings goal was a bit embarrassing to concede, Derby are not that good at the back, despite their low goals against and had it been us v Raeading or Derby last night, the way we played, we’d have given both of them a pasting
I’m now optimistic for Saturday (should I be?)
COYWM We can do this And NO, I won’t settle for a draw, we CAN do these

I’ve just watched the Oxford game again and Ian’s interview after the match he said that’s the level the players need to be at every match or he would bring them to account for it 🤞for the next eight games we need to be as good as last night COYWM

My main fear for Derby is the inconsistency and the mental fortitude of our players. It’s their Black and White day so there’s going to not just be a big crowd but also a huge atmosphere and Pride Park littered with balloons and banners. It would be understandable if some of our players were a little overawed and intimidated by it so Ian needs to address that in the run up to the game. As for the Oxford match, was that just one of those games like Exeter where everything clicked on the night because let’s be honest a couple of our goals were what you might term flukes? I’m not saying we didn’t murder them for 90 minutes, they just couldn’t live with the intensity but I don’t think we’ll get anything like the space and time we were given by Oxford. Paul Warne will be perfectly aware of how important Sheehan is and will make sure he’s fully taken care of and probably Maghoma the same. I’d imagine he’d also press us high and stifle our flowing style and I think we can expect the usual high balls into the box. I don’t think Derby are that good actually but Warnes a smart cookie and will know how to win this. All that said, if we play with confidence and with the intensity we showed on Tuesday we can still win this. We need to have no fear and if somethings not working have the confidence from individuals to try something different and if we can do that we can beat these and for me we need to if we’re to make the automatics, especially after Posh winning again last night.

Derby on Saturday is the last game I am worried about as we have still not won at Pride Park in the league with our last win in Derby being 1981 in the League I know if and it's a big if we can perform as we did on Tuesday night we win but we all know that Bolton don't do things easy. I know this sounds negative but I will take a draw now and move on COYWM

On Tuesday we had rediscovered the need to run off the ball and look for passes, and to press opponents in possession, thus winning second ball. This approach also leads to opponents making defensive errors, eg Dacers=Cogley's
second goal. In turn this then leads to a loss of confidence in defenders, which usually spreads throughout the whole side. We are totally capable of winning this way if we get onto it from the start and don't relax by reverting
to walking football.

Spot on Kenglo, agree 100% with that. 👀 no at our attacking threat we have two good crossers of the ball in Ogbeta and JDC and with both Bod and AC up top backed by Sheehan, George and Paris, that’s about the most skilful line up we could have fielded. As you point out, it’s that press and desire to quickly win the ball back that is so important and it proved the difference on Tuesday so let’s hope Ian doesn’t tinker but fields the same side and encourages the same system at Derby and there’s no reason we shouldn’t overrun them just as we did Barnsley in that second half at Oakwell where we were so unlucky not to win. No settling for a point here if we want an automatic spot so all guns for the 3oints and nothing less. 😁
