Very good 2nd half.
Dominant.
We did revert back a little into the walking football after we had gone 2-1 up.
Morley almost gave then an equaliser with faffing about at the back.
Cambridge though were just big boot/long throws and we dealt with them well.
Need another score like this on Saturday.

Just not good enough. One shot early on from Bodvarsson is the only save their goalie has had to make. The goal was a fluke but Maghoma casually gave the ball away on the edge of our own penalty box. We have had some attacks but all attempts have been blocked. Ogbeta centres/passes are poor and wasting possession. Sheehan, yet again, being kicked to bits. Not sure what Mendes-Gomes' role is - we are short of an additional striker as Bodvarsson is on his own. We look under pressure down our left but Cambridge tend to just launch the ball into our box – no subtlety. TBF, Maghoma slipped as he kicked

Good news Blackpool won't be going to Wembley hahahahahahahahahahahaha The bad news is they can concentrate on the league now though chip. To be fair if we play like we did second half we’ll blow then away then the Pie Eaters and we’ll be looking good in second spot. i didn’t actually think we were bad first half just no composure on the final ball when we’d got round the back of them. Felt sorry for Bod because he kept on taking up good positions in the box but nobody was finding him. Sheehan was pure class again tonight and shout out for Coleman who looked totally in charge. Ogbeta must have had something in his tea at HT because he was terrific in the second period. Onwards and upwards now then. 😁

Good news Blackpool won't be going to Wembley hahahahahahahahahahahaha Couldn't we have done with that. Bit of a distraction, maybe players having a little celebration tonight?

A tremendous 2nd half showing after an average 1st half to get a deserved and much needed win.
We got the first shot on goal, and it turned out to be our only shot on goal in the 1st half, when Toal played a great pass to Bodvarsson whose shot was parried by the keeper and Mendes-Gomes couldn’t hit the loose ball hard enough.
But then we conceded another sloppy goal.
Maghoma chose to do some dribbling on the edge of our box but slipped as he tried to pass the ball out and gave it directly to the Cambridge striker. He ran into space on our left and fired against Toal for the ball to loop up and over Coleman into the corner. A fluke of a goal but we had been sloppy in the build up to it.
This perked up Cambridge who got acres of space down our left. Ogbeta seemed to have given up defending at this stage and they broke again on their right and got a shot in that Coleman saved well.
Cambridge’s main, and probably only, method of attack was high balls into the box including the dreaded long throws but we defended well. Taylor and Toal headed clear well.
Taylor then got kicked and was subbed by Iredale who came on and played very well.
We passed the ball about a lot but our final ball was always cut out or shots were blocked and we trailed 1-0 at the break.
We came out in the 2nd half very well and totally dominated for 20 minutes.
After a first half of no corners, we won a series of them with shots blocked, a frantic save from the keeper and numerous scrambles until Bodvarsson cleverly flicked on Ogbeta’s corner for Maghoma to poke in.
We were well on top now and Mendes-Gomes scored an excellent volley when Sheehan’s tremendous lobbed pass put him through.
Mendes-Gomes almost made it 3 but shot wide after a lovely Dempsey pass.
We then dropped back into “walking football” mode and slowed things down. Not a great idea as it encouraged Cambridge to launch balls at us.
We did have one good break and Dacres-Cogley fired in a great shot which just missed.
We had now decided to hold what we had. We did this well until Toal and Morley messed up the short goal kick routine and left 2 Cambridge players with the ball 15 yards out but first Toal blocked well and then they shot wide from the rebound. It was really sloppy play that could have cost us 2 points.
Iredale then got involved with Lyle Taylor and got booked but Taylor chose to clout Iredale on the head and was rightly sent off.
Cambridge hurled long balls into the box for the final 5 minutes but we defended particularly well to win.
A slow start but a good performance, deserving the win.
Marks:-
Coleman - 7 Much better. Seemed confident and cut out the ridiculous tippy-tappy stuff at the back. A couple of good saves.
Dacres-Cogley - 7 Solid as usual. Second half he attacked well. One cracking shot late on.
Jones - 7 Good. Lots of aerial work needed
Taylor - 7 Did well until he was fouled and subbed
Toal - 8 Very strong in the air and it was needed as Cambridge’s approach was very much launching balls into the box
Ogbeta - 7 Slack first half but well improved in the second
Sheehan - 9 Excellent. As seems to be the case in every match now, he was kicked endlessly but produced some real class including the pass for the winner
Dempsey - 8 Endless running. Involved all the time
Maghoma - 7 Gave the ball away sloppily for their goal but contributed well including the equaliser
Bodvarsson - 7 Good. Got our only first shot in and was involved throughout
Mendes-Gomes - 7 I was questioning his position and contribution and then up he comes with a tremendous goal.
Iredale - 7 Very good. Tough.
Collins - 6 There is something there and he desperately needs his first goal.
Adeboyejo - 6 First two touches gave the ball away and after that his every involvement was penalised by the ref for goodness knows what.
Morley - 6 Suicidal contribution late on when messing about at the back.
