Derby nicked a late one. 1-0. Cruel blow, but you can only win your own home games, which we aren’t

Charlton are 20th. They have now not won in 17 games, ffs Bolton Three great goals though and they should have not had their third.

That was an exercise in how to turn a 5-0 into 3-3.
I disagree re Adeboyejo.Good goal. Could have come off at any time after that.We were so much better with Bodvarsson.
Defensively we were very shaky and much of it stemmed from Coleman. I think Baxter would have routinely saved goals two and three.
We had the edge on the right flank. Ashworth though a cul de sac and badly misjudged the bounce before the corner for their second. Maghoma was in and out. A superb goal followed by a bad miss after good work. Generally though he did ok. At fault for their third, over committing and losing shape.
Bodvarsson certainly lifted us. It's easy to see that Collins has class but playing with Adeboyejo was difficult. One good dipping shot.
It wasn't Sheehan's best game but the pass for Bpdvarsson's goal was exquisite.
We need Baxter back to have a chance. Coleman 0. Jones 6 Toal 5 Iredale 5 Ashworth 4 Dempsey 6 Maghoma 8 Sheehan 6 Dacres- Cogley 5 Adeboyejo 4 Collins 5 Bodvarsson 7 - other subs 4 apiece little impact. Why not CMG earlier- he looked interested?

A shoddy ponderous performance with the occasional show of intent/passion. Otherwise just slow motion walking football backed up with woeful defending.
The team was the one that I expected and YET AGAIN we set off terribly.
We hardly got out of our half in the first 5 minutes. We passed it about at the back so slowly and so poorly that Charlton did most of the early pressing.
Baxter and Santos must be exceptionally good because we are dreadful without them.
So we had the occasional breakaway. Collins had a decent shot and there was a little bit of attacking but, in all fairness, Charlton had much more of the ball in an attacking phase than we did. We had massive possession but it was all Coleman to Toal to Iredale back to Toal etc etc.
Remarkably we went ahead when Ashworth whipped a ball in from the left and Adeboyejo somehow diverted it into the net. I haven’t seen it again yet but I could not work out how he got it in.
So we were ahead against a team without a win in 16 games so could we go on and dominate?
Of course not.
Charlton scored a most ridiculous goal. Their man out on the left curled a centre in. Jones missed it, Toal missed it and it just curled straight into the net. I think it was Jones who should have cleared it but Toal and Coleman were like statues as it curled in. A comical goal.
So just to show how bad we were defensively we let another soft goal in. Ashworth badly lost the ball in defence – just a high bouncing ball he couldn’t control – and Charlton won a corner. They took it short and hit a centre to the edge of the area where, of course, we never have any defenders. Their man was facing the wrong direction but had time to trap the ball, turn and shoot. It was a trickled shot and trickle it did, right into the corner. It was like slow motion watching it go in.
So 2-1 down at half time to two of the softest goals you could ever imagine.
The manager brought Bodvarsson on at half time instead of Adeboyejo and he made a difference, as he usually does. We got back into the game with a lovely shot from Maghoma. He jinked left, jinked right, repeated the moves 2 or 3 times to get space and curled the ball in fro the edge of the area.
So now we won go on to win? Yes? No. We went to sleep again. Dacres-Cogley went down injured in our box. The ref, quite rightly, waved play on but we stopped. We had 2 or 3 chances to clear but hesitated until their man spun to hit a shot against the post and in. So all the good worked was wasted again.
It should be said that despite us being the home team Charlton spent as much time in our box attacking as we did attacking theirs.
So 2-3 down and we had a good spell of attacking – mainly down the right. Eventually Dacres-Cogley got free on the right to centre for Bodvarsson to score.
20 minutes to go and 3-3 but we couldn’t get the winner. Charlton were as likely to score as us and we had a lot of scary moments in defence.
The game ended after 90+11 minutes with Jones heading a good chance wide from a corner.
A terrible day for us with most of the other teams winning and it was a terrible performance. We scored 3 goals but apart from the occasional attacks we were not fluent at all. All our confident passing through midfield has gone.
What to say about the defence? We could have conceded a few against Wycombe and today we did. We were awful defensively.
We all need to pray for the return of Baxter and Santos because this current defence is awful.
Just a comment on the referee. Although we feared him from his previous performances against us, he was good. No complaints from me.
We are now in the position were we need 6 or 7 points from the next 3 away games to keep in touch with Portsmouth and Derby.
We need a confidence builder at Cambridge on Tuesday and we need the manager to sort out this ridiculous “walking football” in defence which is currently killing us.
Marks:-
Coleman - 3 Whilst not directly responsible for any of the goals, he also seemed to influence some woeful play from central defenders. So slow getting play started when we were desperate to get forward and grab a winner.
Dacres-Cogley - 5 A good run and cross for the 3rd goal but some really average passing/crossing prior to that.
Jones - 4 Part of a sloppy defensive display.
Toal - 3 I think he needs a rest. Either his injury is impacted him or just bad form but the defence was awful
Iredale - 4 Their 3rd goal just illustrated a terrible display.
Ashworth - 3 Such poor ball control and passing. His mess up led to the corner for the 2nd goal when it was easy to clear.
Sheehan - 4 Just couldn’t get any control of the game. Charlton copied the tactics of previous opponents and kicked him out of the game.
Dempsey - 5 Some bits of hope but I would like him and Sheehan to dominate so-called inferior opponents.
Maghoma - 7 Lovely goal. Looked the only bright spark in midfield in the 2nd half so we substituted him.
Collins - 5 Just not quite there yet but will come good. A good shot in the 1st half but when we were desperate for goals, the manager replaced him with Jerome.
Adeboyejo - 5 Scored so deserves credit but other than that poor. He once got the ball just inside our half and his resulting rubbish footballing skills managed to create a corner for Charlton.
Bodvarsson - 6 He should have started. Took his goal well and, yet again, caused the opposition problems
Jerome - 4 Why did we bring him on?
Morley - 4 Unfortunately, made little impact
Mendes-Gomes - 5 Buzzed around and had a shot blocked.
