2-1 it finishes, as per my prediction on page 1 of this thread, even though i did have a mini punt on the clean sheet .

Well we went to sleep at the end there and that was a soft goal to concede but overall a pretty good half and could have been a few more with a bit of luck but how good is Bod? His touch and ball control is first class and that cheeky backheeled goal a classic. Not the best of performances but fair play to Wycombe they made it hard for us and most of the problems we had were self inflicted. Move on now and need 3 more points off Charlton on Saturday.

the top 3 have all conceded 29 goals. ( if this bbc table is updated ) . next 3 on 35, 39 & 40 conceded. that's the difference. most of them with decent attacking figures into the mid 50's like the rest of us, but they can't keep 'em out. 2 clean sheets for the big 3..us and derby.
whereas Oxford let in another 2 tonight, and we know how leaky P'boro are. shipped 5 in that play-off last yr was it. let 5 in to us IIRC. and let 5 in at the wk/end.

Spot on W63 Coleman worries me and all that passing out is horrifying, only made me breathe easy when he punted downfield Dempsey I thought had a decent game and battled well Back 3 handled (with a little luck) their attacking threat and they did push forward with purpose and passed a lot better than we did for most of the time At just 1-0 up I couldn’t see the point of CMG and Taylor’s introduction as Maghoma and Dacre did ok and that could have made things difficult for us Ogbeta played his part Collins and Charles was a bit of a struggle in the eye, but what about JDB, he’s a handful and deserved his goal Still struggling with Adeboyejo who really must be moved on at the end of the season Well done Trotters

Well, it wasn’t at the level of Superbowl spectacle, was it?Wycombe bested the first half and Wanderers the second but the fare was poor.
There is an obvious problem with passing from the back if Sheehan is out and Coleman, Toal and Iredale are entrusted with it. They aren’t good enough to do it. Wycombe lapped up the offerings , went immediately close and carried on pouncing on loose passes. And as for their long passing… They may have defended well enough until the 96th minute. What was that. Colemanballs reborn?
There were bright moments. Maghoma created some forward movement at times, Ogbeta did well enough going forward- albeit slipping some poor passes. Collins has composure on the ball and fashioned a good far post chance. Jones headed a good goal. Charles seems thoroughly out of sorts just now and it simply did not work with Collins.
Anyway in the second half we had a measure of control. Dempsey did a lot of hard work and in the end assisted what turned out to be the winning goal. Bodvarsson had two or three moments on the ball. A pity he couldn’t, get to Maghoma’s breakaway .
Adeboyejo was awful. He was lacklustre , short of pace and possession and seems always to take the wrong option if a cross is inbound. The last good nearpost goal was Nlundulu,s against Exeter. He should watch replays- there were goals a-plenty on offer with the right runs. Bring back Alf!
In the end we just about scraped through but it wasn’t an easy watch.
Coleman 6 Jones 7 Toal 5 Iredale 4 Dacres- Cogley 6 Ogbeta 6 Magoma 7 Dempsey 7 Morley 5 Collins 5 Charles 3 Adeboyejo 2 Bodvarsson 6 Ashworth 5 Of the subs Bodvarsson made a showing and if only for ten minutes Mendez Gomes took my eye.

Sometimes it is better to wait until the day after to review a match, particularly when the performance has been average.
Well, this morning it doesn’t feel any better.
That was a pretty turgid performance which could easily have ended in defeat.
The major positive is that we have collected 4 points from two iffy performances but it must improve.
Wycombe had obviously watched the Barnsley match. They pressed our back 3 and marked the defensive midfield player (Morley) so we could not get out. It was nerve wracking watching us continually caught in possession. Is Santos that good that everything clicks into place when he is in the side and is it the lack of both Santos and Baxter? We are going to concede a stupid goal soon if that continues.
Yet again, we started slowly. Wycombe could have scored after 30 seconds when their guy just ran through the defence and slid the ball just wide.
It continued as we were so sloppy at the back and Wycombe had most of the ball.
Coleman made a number of good blocks. Wycombe wasted opportunities and we were just pedestrian.
Remarkably, after all this, we took the lead. Ogbeta made a good run. He had his shirt pulled but was strong enough to break away and won a corner. Why wasn’t their man booked for a blatant shirt pull? From the corner, we used a different technique. Morley played it short to Ogbeta who slung a centre in for an excellent header from Jones.
The goal did not improve us but we somehow got to half time ahead.
Second half we did improve.
Maghoma had a shot brilliantly saved and Bodvarsson held the ball up well to start some attacks.
We still looked iffy at the back and they had a header from a corner which skimmed the far post.
Defensively we still slept and from one of our attacks Wycombe broke to leave a man clean through but, thankfully, he shot wide. Injury time came and we still were biting our finger nails when Jones and Dempsey combined to slide the ball in for Bodvarsson to back heel into the net.
So we were home and dry or were we?
Yet again we were wide open at the back and a high ball caught us out. Coleman mugged the attacker and they scored from the resulting penalty.
A very average performance but 3 points which were necessary with Portsmouth and Derby both winning.
Saturday gives us an ideal chance to pick up points – particularly with 5 away games out of the following 6 matches.
A welcome 3 points but we need to improve.
Marks:-
Coleman - 7 Some good saves in the first half. Distribution left something to be desired though
Dacres-Cogley - 7 Good. Some good attacking play
Jones - 7 Excellent header. Combined well with Dacres-Cogley
Toal - 6 A few wild passes. Maybe needs to get his injury sorted when Santos returns
Iredale - 6 Good defensively most of the time. Some wild miskicks also
Ogbeta - 6 Has pace. Created the first goal
Morley - 5 The defensive midfielder role doesn’t suit him.
Dempsey - 6 Busy but I want a little bit extra from him
Maghoma - 6 Some neat bits. Great shot was well saved. But also a casual approach is still there
Collins - 6 Reasonably impressive. Some neat passes. Will come good
Charles - 6 As usual busy. Still not quite coming off
Bodvarsson - 8 Yet again, he changed the game upfront with his ball control. Clever goal
Adeboyejo - 6 A rarity for me but I actually thought he got himself much more involved and occasionally actually used the ball well
Ashworth - 6 Solid enough
Mendes-Gomes

Fair report that davidm
Adeboyejo just accidentally never seems to be where you want him. Twice last night he could have been scoring had he adjusted his reactions well enough, but one of them, I saw JDB windmilling his arms wanting for VA to be close by to help press the central defenders and he was just ambling around the middle of the park. Hard to believe Wycombe put 5 past Posh too
And to think that Leyton Orient put 4 past Northampton last night and we struggled for 1
Is it true? Does the cream rise? Are Derby going to be that ‘cream’ ? Ummmmm, not sure, but they’re coming good at the right time, even if they did draw at home v Shrewsbury, but they won last night and with ease by the looks of it
Still tons of football to be played and I’m convinced once everyone’s fit and returning to first team, we have to be the healthiest to achieve our aim of going up, it’s just to to Evatt to figure it all out with minimal disruption (do you really have to make 5 subs every game)

Just a question as I’m not sure if the straight red / yellow system.
Had Coleman been sent off for that clumsy tackle and Baxter still out, what on earth do we do then??
Is it Hutchinson and no sub keeper?? Or do we drag Gilles out kicking and screaming, or can we loan someone in??

I’m not 100% certain rioch but I think with Hutch out on loan we’d be allowed to exercise the emergency keeper route, not that we’d want to of course but if needs must? Our next two games must surely be winnable and we need the six points with Blackpool and the pie eaters coming up. I’m hoping Rico is back before the Seasiders because whatever we say about him he does add a calming element and a big presence to the defence.

With our gifting keeper and benevolent makeshift defence, let’s just hope Ladapo and May don’t have a field day on Saturday 😬
