It was obvious to see that the ball was not rolling normally, yet we continued playing the ball out from the back. At least one pass from Baxter to Sheehan (?) was suicidal. Even if that pass on the edge of our box had gone completely to plan, what would it have acheived?
I was also surprised to see the same front two starting

I was also surprised to see the same front two starting Like I mentioned earlier o2m, t was no surprise to me and many others, I just knew Evatt would go against popular opinion He only has to read the comments on the BN That said, he’s the boss and I’m not so I’ll shut up😂

I think he explained the reasons for not picking Collins rioch and to be fair I do agree with him. The one I couldn’t understand was leaving Bod out completely, not even on the bench. Again Evatt has his reasons and obviously with Baxter’s wrist jury it was sensible to have a keeper on the bench. For me that should always be the case but I can see the reason Evatt doesn’t agree and so far he’s been right. As for the playing out from the back, I don’t have a problem with the principle but as you say, given the conditions some of the passes were just crazy, especially the Sheehan one, what on earth was Baxter thinking? Again you see, that’s not the system itself just the bad implementation by the players. Still it was a good night overall and in terms of midweek spots we do have a few spare in April if we can’t get this one played before.

Not going to slam Evatt for being honest because I've called for it before. But I think every fan assumed JDB was one of those with a knock and Jerome would be stepping up. Jerome should be in a glass case with a small metal hammer attached. In case of emergency. To come out and say that was a choice was a bit of a shock. The openness but more the decision. I tried to justify it. That type of game may have been a back to walls defend a lead. But that's the only advantage of Jerome to Bod. But even then it's minimal and doesn't make up for Bods advantages. Shooting, link up, passing, pace, stamina and durability. I've got a sense that two things will happen now. 1. JDB will be seen as the Sadlier/John of this group. In the fans mind he's not Harry Kane on the bench. Will probably lead to Evatt doubling down and once again I can see a Sarcevic row brewing. Secondly can see same fans now tiring of seeing Jerome. Again like Kachunga if you're keeping strikers out and not scoring or even look close to it you're going to get flack.

Nine minutes. For me some really encouraging positives within them-
1. Ogbeta was just great on the left flank, showing pace, skill on the ball and outside overlap and the ability to cut in with an eye for goal. Iredale and Ashworth don't have those capabilities.
2. The return of Jones and straightaway right side overlaps and faster counter attacks. 1 and 2 together meant we had a progressive pacy threat on both flanks.
3. Toal on the left of centre. He has struggled on the right and been kicking long.
4 Yes caught in possession but even in the wet we passed to feet and if Evatt sees lost possession v more 2v1s and counters, in these 9 mins his strategy was 3:1 up.
It is a good strategy and far better than watching Mills and Ream, Wheater and Beavers and various goalkeepers booting every ball and losing possession almost all the time.
Big Sam's teams could do both and Okocha was great at switching play with long balls as were Campo, Hierro , Speed, Djorkaeff- but they were a class ( several classes ) better players.
There are aspects of IE'sapproach that are volatile and controlling. We need to make better choices to context sometimes and need more infield leadership.
There were in 9 mins in my opinion some real positives.. Even Victor looked forceful - if only we could get more from him.

I think the club have already confirmed that those who used the two official club coaches will get a refund or new ticket OM so that’s good. Also anyone with a ticket for the game can reuse it or have the fee refunded and it looks like anyone who paid for Wanderers TV should also get a refund so you can’t ask for more than that. It’s good that it’s been rescheduled so quickly because we really need to be realising (hopefully) some points from our games in hand as soon as we can to hopefully open up a little gap and take some of the pressure off. The last thing we need is to have to earn the points from games in hand to just catch up.

Is it a reasonable question to ask, would you rather be in Portsmouths position, top of the league with points in the bag, or a chasing side with games in hand, enough to take you to the top??

As the saying goes points in the bag are better than games in hand, so for me I would say Portsmouth because there southerners who seem to be getting the rub of the green. COYWM

Good question rioch and one that has been asked many times I’m sure. It’s the old bird in the bush scenario and obviously you’d always rather have the guarantee of points in the bag so I suppose that’s the answer to your question but other factors can sometimes affect things. The teams you have to play, injuries and suspensions and of course how many points you’re behind. In our case I’d say I’m more than happy with our situation and think we will benefit from our games in hand. Only time will tell obviously and we do have some difficult opposition to face but then it’s equally difficult for them too and they will also be playing each other. It’s in our own hands so since at the end of the season we’ll all have played the same number of games it’s probably irrelevant when we play them?

It’s in our own hands so since at the end of the season we’ll all have played the same number of games it’s probably irrelevant when we play them? I think it does depend. Obviously at the bottom of the table it's better to have points in the bag because the liklihood is that the other teams aren't winning frequently. In a Premier league season 38 games and 38 points SHOULD keep you up. So a game in hand is at best 1 point. At the top going for a automatic then the average ppg would be 2+ so if you're 3 games in front and only 5 clear then I would chase. If you're 6 or 7 in front with 3 then I'd be happy. These Saturday Tuesday Saturday games could suit us. Remember that L2 run when we just get the habit of winning(we didn't even blow any team out of the water. Struggled but the momentum took us over) if we go on a run we have the potential to win 8 from 10 and take us up. Theres also the counter that we can lose one and it rocks us too much.
