From BN today: "Evatt has developed a possession-based style over the last three seasons but it has not always been met with universal approval from the fanbase. But the manager pointed towards three successive years of improvement and the league table, in which Wanderers still boast the best points-per-game record in the division, as proof that his methods are working. “It isn’t going to change – I can tell you that much – we are going to stick to our principles,” he said.
“There is methodology behind it, we are doing it to gain an advantage, we are not doing it for vanity.
“We need everyone to buy into it and support them. I don’t think it is helpful when there are moans and groans and kicking long certainly isn’t helpful because it tends to play to opposition strengths." Oh dear, stubborn and still delusional. Similarly with the likes of Sadlier especially there seemed to be a real begrudingness whenever he scored. Seemed to hurt Evatt. Likewise when MJ, Aimson and this season when we win without Santos perhaps shifting the ball quicker there's always a dig at them. Just won the game, clean sheet but it hurts Santos and his image. I don't understand why a manager wouldn't see having strings to your bow as a negative. Remember Sir Alex knew he could match Barca despite having a generational great team so champs league went a different route and got his hands on the trophy. Course it probably hurt to think you can't win playing your A game but clever enough to think ok what do we do now then? Ian in game management is probably as bad as we've had truth be told.

Ian’s in game management isn’t bad rioch it’s no existent, just always like for like. I don’t totally disagree with his point that his system has proved successful and whilst it may not suit everyone we can’t deny that it’s infinitely more pleasurable to watch than the PP stuff was. My complaint is that whilst agreeing we shouldn’t change plan we should certainly adapt it. On Saturday it was clear to everyone that the players were becoming increasingly nervous with Barnsley's really good high press and how we didn’t concede the Lord only knows but if we had the game would have been lost. Fortunately we didn’t and Baxter eventually saw sense and hit the ball long to release the pressure, which clearly IE didn’t like but whatever, it worked. It’s a practise used often in Rugby Union when under pressure to clear your lines by kicking into touch and move the ball up the field and reset. We don’t have to go long ball just see sense and adapt accordingly and if Ian doesn’t see that then he needs to. Thankfully we got away with it especially with a makeshift defence and hopefully the Cambridge press won’t be anywhere near as effective tonight?

Hey don’t be blaming me for that comment W63, that was OooooM, but I fully agree with him and you😂😂Evatt is stuck with a plan and it’s not about to change anytime soon, unfortunately Thing is, I watched City v Brentford last night and a at 1-0 down, City just passed the life and death out of the Bees and into submission Evatt will be studying this no doubt as it’s his way to attempt to copy an ld implement the Pep way for sure and it’s all well and good when you have the quality like City and Peps Barca, but we don’t Although I have to agree that this system has caught a few teams out in this poor league and the one below On tonight’s game, I’m actually worried, I really am , because our insistence to play the Evatt Way, its mind boggling how, when we have some very decent talent, we just don’t apply it due to our pass pass pass possession football, which is not yielding excitement nor goals until it gets to desperation stakes when we’re 1-0 down I do hope I’m proven wrong and we thump em 5-0 (4 for Collins)

Oh dear, stubborn and still delusional. spot on Pedro. loads of replies under Iles' tweet promoting the story all saying similar stuff to us lot.... admit it can be an issue and mix it up a bit. surely if you bang it long a couple of times... the opponent... is much less willing to commit numbers up for the press, and you engineer yourself a bit more space to play. Marc iles tried to do his usual defence of Evatt.. neutral that he is..lol to be fair, when challenged with a good logical point, he admitted it was a possibility. (wait a sec or 2 for tweets to load ) this table is about us being good at pressing, not playing out from the back. Brentford ( though they struggled on the night ) showed with the first goal, (0.42 in vid below ) the benefits of a long goal kick. goalkeeper assist. 1-0 up ! interesting point from Alan Smith...i always forget this myself.... you can't be offside from a goal kick.that in itself forces tactical consequences. their defence ( eg the city def in this case) HAS TO DROP..they cannot just squeeze you into your own half and start pressing & bullying you in your own half. but if you act like you'll never kick it long, you just INVITE PRESSURE.
