Question??
Is this win or bust??
We need to adapt the plan that kept us clean sheets but this game is not for kids, or Santos mistakes 11 men need to man up and show this league that we mean business
Is that possible??
Over to you Ian

Perfectly put, Rioch. I see there is a chance of Johnston and JD returning to the squad. Remains to be seen in what capacity, but both would be welcome. Wonder what Lee's approach would be at his old club, who shelved him a bit too early in my opinion. I would start with Jerome alongside Charles, and definitely play John, and hopefully alongside Johnston. Jones should be behind Bradley, and I would like to see Isgrove on the bench, because we haven't been getting behind defences enough for my liking lately. If JD were to turn out it would help us defensively, and strengthen midfield. I think if all that came to pass we could win 0-2 before the Sky cameras.

No it’s on iFollow not Sky. It will be interesting to see what changes IE makes for tomorrow, surely he can’t keep the same side that started against Ipswich? I actually agree with Kenglo that Johnson and John should feature on the left and it’s time to give Toal a break and play Jones behind Bradley. Toals been a revelation since he came in but has been poor in the last few games and could do with a rest. Lee has to start against his old club at the expense of Shoretire who just hasn’t performed and I’d also start Jerome up top alongside Dion rather than Victor although I could understand Evatt continuing with him for longer. What I hope he doesn’t resort to is falling back on his mate Kachunga. In midfield I wouldn’t rush MJ back, I’d stick with Dempsey and Morley and if anything I’d rather see George back before MJ. Whoever he plays I just want them to take the game to Wednesday and not be frightened of them. With the right team playing fast tempo pass and move football rather than this soul destroying slow, walking football stuff I’m entirely confident we can get something, even a draw would restore some confidence whilst a win would be amazing and put us right back into it. I fear I’m going to be disappointed though!! 🤨

Sorry I know I've gone in heavy on Evatt recently but think he's made it harder to play Declan John by saying he isn't good enough defensively. I cannot imagine any other manager ever throwing thier defender under the bus like that? Can you imagine Klopp ever saying we didn't play Trent because teams target him as defensively he isn't that great???
Who does he play there now because Jones doesn't work. Williams isn't as good either defensively or attacking. Toal can't do it. Johnson isn't ready. Iredales injured. Talk about cutting your nose off to spite your face.
I don't buy the underdog no pressure angle. We're underdogs because Sheff Weds are good and recently we're not so to think we can capitalise on that without changing something is just nonsensical.
IF Declan John can't be trusted at LWB then think we may need to change the while set up because I can't see Bradley doing his up and down role. So can we go 4 defenders. Play Bradley and John as wide midfielders and pack the middle. Losing Vic/Shola in place. Jones Santos Toal Williams (or Mbete) Bradley Morley Dempsey John Lee Charles???
I don't mind the look of that too much. Get Bradley and John going after them. Keeping the middle triumvirate. Lot of work for Dion obviously but he hasn't really formed any sort of partnership has he? Might relish that role

I don’t think there’s any chance that Evatt will change his system OM, he’s indoctrinated it into his players so he’s not going to change it now for something they haven’t worked on. I’ve been behind Evatt all the way so far and I probably still am but that comment about Declan John was ridiculous and in my opinion untrue because whilst DJ may not be the very best defender he more than makes up for it in attack. Perhaps if he had a more experienced head at the side of him instead of a novice in Mbete he might look better? Hopefully Johnson will be back in soon now he’s recovered which should make a massive difference at the back, we’ve really missed him. I don’t want to see another “kids” starting eleven tonight. Surely the last few weeks have told Evatt that the likes of Mbete and Shoretire just aren’t ready for this level and I’d also give Toal a rest and start Jones behind Bradley. If we put the same starting team out tonight as Saturday I can see the game being over by half time. Surely it’s time to restore Lee at No10 and give Jerome a start up front next to Dion. Sadly Evatt will show his stubborn streak and stick with the loans, at least that’s how it sounds from his pre match mumbling. Developing kids is fine but they’re not our kids are they?

EVATT FOR PALACE
The talent on display for Wednesday tells why they are top of the tree
Byers, Smith, Windass, Bannan, Gregory…. Goals from everyone (28 from the from 2)
Our passages of play are getting monotonous, with far too much overpassing, no man brave enough to buy a raffle ticket and actually try to smash one in at the target and with no end product at all.
The half million pound purchase of Adeboyejo has been pointless for me as Kachunga and Bakayoko could have carried on doing what they were doing which is no worse or better than Vic and all because our attacking system is so laborious, time consuming with no one ballsy enough to just have a crack at goal. (Wish he’d bought that Langstaff kid from County instead)
Keepers at this level are not good, they fluff their lines, spill things, do Trafford style vacations out of their own 25, so why not take a gamble, thunder one in and see how many pay off!!
Evatt’s Pep Ball won’t allow, of course and he would also probably slate (or drop) a player for thinking for himself..
Which reminds me, anyone know why the camera zoomed in on an angry Roy Evans when McManaman scored that goal against us at Wembley in 95?? Always puzzled me that did
Fair to say that Evatt must be trawling through the BN, LionOfViennaSuite, Burnden Aces, TrottersForever forums as he does seem to have his say on the grumbles of the supporters, namely the hot topic of using ‘kids’ in the run in
Think we are in for a 3-0 drubbing tonight

I know it’s just my opinion but me as a loyal fan who will stick by my beloved Wanderers through good times and bad (which I can safely say won’t happen if a big championship or lower premiership side comes calling for Ian) the playoffs could be slipping away from our grasp because Ian is a very stubborn manager who says it’s his way or the highway. Don’t get me wrong there’s been plenty to like about what he is trying to do and it might pay off with better more experienced players but with kids against the better teams we are getting turned over to easy. We have nine games left he needs to pick his best and most experienced team to finish the season with a playoff place and stop pissing about. Depending on what team he picks kids 2 maybe 3 -0 defeat experienced and players in there correct position’s and we catch Wednesday on a bad night 2-1 win but would take a draw onwards and upwards COYWM

Much as I like Shoretire and feel he’s one for the future I just think in games like tonights we need a bit more old headed experience rather than youthful exuberance. Teams like Wednesday know too much for him and let’s be honest it’s showed over the last month against the better teams. I wouldn’t mind so much if he were our player and we’d benefit later but he’ll be back at OT next year. Surely this is a game for the likes of Lee and Jerome to start and then let the younger players come on later. I don’t see that happening though and fear that if we start with the same eleven as Saturday Wednesday will be out of sight by half time. I’d love to be proved wrong but I’m afraid I have to go for a 3-0 drubbing tonight putting our play off hopes very much in the balance. Imagine how different it would be though if we put on a brave, attacking performance and pinched a win. What a blow that would be for the likes of Wycombe and Posh? COYWM make it happen.

It seems from the noises Evatt is making on the BN that he is intending to start with the eleven that failed v Ipswich, unless he is trying a double take. Meantime we must hope for a couple of Santos style mistakes from Wednesday defenders to guide us to my 0-2 forecast. Anybody know why this game is being played Friday night? I felt sure it was to accommodate Sky at the start of the international break.

Anybody know why this game is being played Friday night? I felt sure it was to accommodate Sky at the start of the international break. It is because when the fixtures were first announced last summer, both Sheff Wed and Sheff Utd were scheduled to be at home tomorrow. So our game was moved to Friday night. Ironically, Sheff Utd are not playing their scheduled league game tomorrow as they are in the FA Cup - a match which is now being played on Sunday so tomorrow is absolutely clear.

A tough task tonight.
Being the eternal optimist, I am not as down beat as most of you.
We have a decent record at Hillsborough.
I have seen Mark Davies score a blinder in a 2-1 win and then the 3-0 in our promotion year under Sam. There were also some good results in the years after we dropped out of the Premiership.
Mind you, I was also at the match when we were 5-0 at half time but overall it is a decent ground for us.
Defensively, we have to sort out the left side of the defence. Last week’s formation was a disaster. I would like to see John back and left footers on the left and right footers on the right which, of course means a toss up between Jones and Toal.
I desperately need to see Lee back in midfield. The Shoretire experiment has not worked – maybe bring him on when Lee has his usual substitution after 70+ minutes.
Upfront – obviously Charles and then who? Adeboyejo, Jerome, Kachunga (remember his awful mess up in the first minute last season!).
Also no fancy ideas about changing tactics to react to the opposition – that went so wrong last week. Stick to our tried and tested attacking play. Play a bit faster out from the back and press the opposition back – don’t slow it down as it does us no good.
Always optimistic – Wednesday’s unbeaten run must come to an end sometime so why not tonight – 2-1 win.

I can’t disagree with much if any of that Davidm but much as I’d like that result I just don’t know where it’s coming from. We’ve stopped scoring, largely I believe due to the unnecessarily slow movement from the back which just results in a hoof forward to nobody as we’re pressed back. Surely Evatt must be able to see that as much as we do? I know we’re not technical experts like he is but you don’t really need to be to see where we’re failing. Get the ball down, play quickly from the back, into midfield, out wide to Bradley and John, quick cross and job done. It really isn’t any more difficult that that and when we do play with pace and tempo I believe we can beat anybody, including the Wednesdays and Ipswich’s. As Ian quoted today from old Bill Shankley, footballs a simple game complicated by overthinking. Just embrace that Ian and keep it simple stupid. So much as I’d love a win, if it’s the same starting eleven as Saturday I’m still in the 0-3 to the Owls camp. 🙁
