Come on Bolton Basic defending that is 😡😡😡😡2-2
And quite angry with that wasted free kick a minute before grrrr
Not surprised on Dapo being subbed but Charles was a bit of a handful for them and hungry for a hat trick (why do managers do that? Sub a player when he’s on for 3)
COYWM still time for a winner⚽️⚽️⚽️

With all our shortcomings in the air at the back, I can’t see us keeping a clean sheet Absolute shocking defending. High balls into the box and we can't defend.

We're too happy to concede throws and corners - but why when we can't defend them? Very surprised at the substitutions unless Dapo and Dion both played with the club bug. If fit Dapo should have been kept on. Some awful tackling and clearances throughout.

Evatt came here and talked the good game about marginal gains. Getting that extra. Well forget marginal gains, major gains needs working on. Corners, free kicks and not giving a goal away every game.
These problems are 2 and a half years old. Saved by January transfer markets two years in a row. There's no strike 3 with this guy.
I am of the opinion that he's a charlatan. He is in a good position because he has one of the best squads but its not through his coaching and his tactics and I believe you put a Wilder, comes on Sky today, or take a chance on Dean Holden and you get far more out of this group.
Sort of glad to be outside the playoffs as some thing there's no debate to be had.
FV please don't back this man in January. Spent a million last Jan. Has the biggest squad we've had for a long time and money in from player sales - zilch. Likely offers this Jan - doubtful.

What a shocking defensive display that was.
A match we should easily have won but our abject failure to cope with high balls into our box cost us 3 points.
Our usual terrible start.
Jones allowed their wide man all the time in the world to run into the box and centre. No challenge from him whatsoever and Johnston just stood and watched as their man tapped it in. No marking, no challenge – just stood rooted as they scored.
We fought back well. Lee played a lovely lobbed pass to Jones down the right of the penalty area and he passed the ball well for Charles to score. A very good goal.
We were the best team for the rest of the half but couldn’t open up the Shrewsbury defence. Shrewsbury just relied on punting high balls forward and harrying our defence and midfield. This tactic gave us loads of problems as we were endlessly tackled off the ball.
Second half we had a good spell and had 3 shots blocked by defenders and then Sheehan and Lee played a wonderful move only for Sheehan’s shot to hit Charles instead of the net.
We were well on top and then Iredale played a cracking ball out of defence to free Afolayan who was brought down for a penalty. Charles’ pen was almost saved but the force of the shot carried it over the line.
We may have had another penalty a few minutes later when Charles appeared to be brought down but it was not to be.
The game then changed.
Shrewsbury won a corner on the right. It was overhit out to the right wing. Jones and their centre back went out to gather it and Jones inexplicably allowed their guy to centre the ball. Our deficiencies in the air came to the fore. The ball was headed down for their guy to smash it into the net with no challenge. Awful defending.
We made 2 subs then. I didn't understand the need for the subs. We took off our 2 most dangerous attackers and gave the game to Shrewsbury who endlessly hoisted balls forward.
We conceded in injury time when yet another corner came in. Lee misheaded it back towards our goal and Trafford made a hash of trying to punch it clear. Dreadful defending again. Terrible keeping by Trafford.
We basically lost that game because we cannot handle high balls into our area. I have saying this for weeks and opposition managers are aware of it.
Dreadful performance.
Marks:-
Trafford - 4 Dreadful on the winning goal. Just couldn’t get up to punch it clear. No fault on 1st two goals but a couple of really poor kicks
Bradley - 5 Just so-so. Not much getting forward
Jones - 3 At fault for 1st goal, 2nd goal and god knows who was defending for the 3rd goal. Great lay-back for Charles’ 1st goal
Toal - 5 Not dominant enough in the air
Johnston - 3 Woeful for the 1st goal. Where was he for the 2nd? Just slack most of the match
Iredale - 5 Reasonable but another 6ft defender who can’t win high balls into the box
Sheehan - 6 OK. Made himself a wonderful chance but he hit Charles with his shot
Williams - 5 Got tackled and lost the ball too often
Lee - 6 Lovely pass for our 1st goal and some nice touches
Charles - 6 Took his goal well. Just got away with his penalty
Afolayan - 6 Our most dangerous player. He needs to button his lip. Could easily have been sent off after the final whistle

What a complete cock up and yet another 3 points thrown away. I though Lee was excellent today as was Sheehan, much more creative than we have been but yet again let down by absolutely woeful defending. I really don’t know what’s happened to Jones, he was a class act for me last year but this season is just not at the races. That second goal was just pathetic when all he had to do was stay there and block the cross but instead te turns away and allows the guy to put in a critical centre and the Trafford completely failed to even make an attempt to reach the ball which was basically dropping straight down to him. Even if he’d have missed it but at least attempted a punch I’m sure the ref would have called a foul but he just didn’t make any effort. I can stand losing but when you give away three easily preventable goals like todays it just leaves me cold. I’ve said before about Evatt’s seeming need to make unnecessary substitutions but todays was a classic. Let’s take off the guy who’s going for a hat trick and the player who’s been causing them most grief and replace them with a guy with a broken nose and a willing but average bustler. You really couldn’t make it up, a manager who actually weakens his team when we’re going for it. 😖

Not sure if we’ll have the money for a decent striker from the leagues above but my best bet would be that Langstaff kid at Notts County, he can’t stop scoring Sack Baka and Kacha and use the waves on him, but we need more firepower or better firepower than what we have
What a thoroughly miserable Saturday this has turned out to be😞😞😞

Reflections on yesterday’s match:-
- We have major major problems with high balls. Our defending at corners/free kicks/centres is awful. I have said this for a number of weeks now and it is getting worse. Opposition managers have worked us out and can see that physical basic defending is not in our side. It’s not just that Santos is missing because he can’t head a ball either. We are just so slow, standing waiting to head the ball whilst the opposition attack it. On the 3rd goal yesterday, no-one stopped Dunkley from running in to beat Trafford to the high ball. I have reached the end of the line for me with Johnston. He has some good attributes but good defending is not one of them.
- why put all 11 men at corners? It certainly hasn't stopped us conceding from corners.
- We are constantly bullied out of matches. Half of the teams in this league consist of 6ft+ giants who get in the faces of our players and effectively knock us out of the game. Yesterday, they were straight at our back 4 + Williams each time they received the ball. We lost possession numerous times from being pressed quickly.
- With Santos missing, we have thankfully stopped the endless slow passing (a la England) between the keeper and centre backs. We still need to move the ball quicker.
- On a positive note, Lee and Sheehan looked good. They are not going to win physical contests but both have good footballing brains.
- The manager seems obsessed with making subs regardless of the state of the game. Charles and Afolayan had looked dangerous throughout so immediately after conceding at 2-2, we took them both off and completely stopped our attacking ideas.
- The players, Afolayan in particular, need to learn to control themselves. Opponents are using the dark arts to rile us up and we lose control. Afolayan could easily have received a red card for his behaviour after the final whistle. He does seem to have got into a situation where he is permanently mouthing off to the ref.
Overall, we should have won. We had the game won after our usual dreadful start and probably should have been farther ahead but then crumbled with basic defending at corners.
