Even if we'd lost I would have rated it an exciting game, but even though I felt the selection left much to be desired we could easily have won 5-1 considering all the missed chances .Teams like Fleetwood are there for the taking... But back to team selection - if only Ian had picked something like the finishing eleven from the start !!!!

Great 2nd half. I didn’t think we would ever score. Sadlier changed the game Agree David, great second half and Sadlier completely changed the game doing more in ten minutes than Kachunga and Charles in the 80 or so they were on. I don’t know what’s Sads isn’t doing in training not to get a start but every time he does come on he steals the show. Surely that must be the end for Charles and Kachunga now? Neither contributes anything worthy and should not start again. What a change in Beck second half he was also different class and how good was Dapo? How can he possibly be left out now? Fully deserved that and considering we missed at least two absolute sitters and but for bad luck with the bounce of the ball in the box a couple more, I’d say we were well worth that despite Rooney hitting the post. Up to fifth now and that should really set a spark for us going forward. Well done whites onward and upward.

That will never happen as it’s Ian’s way or the highway but never mind it’s three unexpected points COYWM

very profitable betting day on that one. about 10 or 15 mins before our 1st goal, Jack Dearden on Radio Manc was saying their goal was leading a charmed life. already had bolton/draw, so went in again at more favourable odds. got bit nervy end of the 90 , as could have easily lost my gains. decided to cash out 1 of them in, and re-invest a tiny stake on us to win it, just in the spirit of...you wait that long for an away goal to come along, it'd be typical to score another and nick this, and it did..kerching !!. Bolton B- 1 Bolton A 2 . ( they had vela, nsiala, josh earl & jay lynch playing for them ! ) .
god knows how we are 5th, a lot of teams cocking things up. at one point, even Oxford were right on our coat tails, after their horrific start to the season, then suddenly they concede to lowly FGR , we score 2 etc. Barnsley got the job done, as did sheff wed. Plymouth dropped points but still have 10 pt+ lead on us. Peterboro also flopped.
Performance was better even before the goals, more shots & shots on target than Fleetwood. Radio comm said their goal was a bad one to concede.

How do we take the last 15m from Accrington, Burton and today and make that a 90m performance. Handbrake off. We will outscore teams.
Bodvarson, Sadlier, Dapo. Get them in and give them more than 45m to show they can work.

A great fight back in the 2nd half bringing a deserved win.
The1st half, we huffed and puffed and created little and our casual defending let us down badly.
We set off like a whirlwind. Kachunga had a run, Morley had a shot spilled by the keeper and Beck amazingly put the rebound wide from a simple chance.
Our fast start calmed down and Fleetwood got some possession but there was no excuse for conceding the goal we did. Josh Vela picked the ball up on the right and ran diagonally across the pitch with no challenge. Morley just backed off and backed off. When Vela reached the left wing he flicked a pass down the wing for their man to play into the area. Still no problem. Their centre forward got the ball with his back to goal on the edge of the box and turned a full 180 degrees and rocketed a shot into the net with absolutely no challenge from any of our defenders. Schoolboy stuff.
And that was it for the first half really. We passed the ball about a lot but our final pass into their area was really poor. So 1-0 down at half time and a pretty poor performance.
Second half looked for quite a while as if it would be a repeat of the first half. We pressed, had half chances but could create little. Charles had a nightmare with balls going through his legs and just beyond him with just nothing sticking. Bodvarsson came on for Charles but still we made half chances and on another day we could have had 2 or 3.
But then we had our bit of luck. Fleetwood broke, from our corner, Rooney just bulldozed straight through a weak Johnston and broke away. Johnston stayed on the floor, Fleetwood made a couple of passes and found Rooney again, totally unmarked in a position that Johnston would have covered. Nobody had filled in for the missing Johnston. Rooney shot and hit the post. Would we have come back from 2-0 down?
The major moment that changed the game was when we replaced a tiring Beck with Sadlier. He then dominated our left side of the attack with some good runs and good balls in. Eventually, with 5 mins to go, he broke into the box again and squared for Bradley to tap in. A very good goal.
We were so on top at this stage you had to ask why we hadn’t played like this before.
Sheehan who had come on as sub then did some excellent work on the left of the box, turned and pulled the ball back for Afolayan to tap in 4 minutes into injury time.
An excellent fight back.
Questions must be asked why we can’t play like the 2nd half more often.
There were still some negatives:-
- Our corners and free kicks were awful and twice we lost possession and Fleetwood broke dangerously, - Our central defenders cannot win headers. Twice Johnston was woefully beaten in the air and Fleetwood could have scored, - Until the last 20 minutes or so, our passing in the final 3rd of the pitch was poor. - We spend too much time arguing with the ref. It gets us nowhere.
Anyway, let’s celebrate an excellent win. Fleetwood are no mugs so that was a good 3 points.
Marks:- Trafford - 7 No chance with the goal. Not troubled too much after that. Bradley - 7 Very busy and on the spot for his goal. Jones - 6 Steady and did some good forward runs in the 2nd half. Santos - 6 Not too much to bother him. I would like to see his involvement in their goal as no one made an effort to stop them scoring. Johnston - 4 Struggled with high balls including once totaaly missing a basic defensive header. Got out-muscled when Fleetwood broke and hit the post. Headed a corner just over Beck - 7 Missed a sitter in the 1st minute and forced the goalie into a good save in the 2nd half. Had trouble with headers against Rooney who was 6 inches taller than him. Some poor corners. Morley - 6 Could not get hold of midfield at all. Poor free kicks and corners. Thomason - 5 Not sure what he brought to the team. He doesn’t break up attacks as well as Williams. Kachunga - 5 A good run in the 1st minute and then a weak shot a few minutes later but that was all. Charles - 4 Just couldn’t get the right touch on the ball. Afolayan - 7 Always attacking and on the spot to win the match. Bodvarsson - 5 Same problem as the man he replaced (Charles) – just couldn’t get into the game. Sadlier - 8 Changed the game totally with some attacking moves and then set up the equaliser. Sheehan - 7 Lovely movement for the winner when he turned in the box and set up Afolayan.

What goes on in the head of that idiot always arguing with the ref/4th Official After despairing, shaking my head and constantly groaning at our schoolboy errors and lack of "attack, attack, attack" in the first 75 minutes it was as if another team had come on to replace the blundering journeymen! It was great and exciting but it does leave huge questions hanging.................. Well done those on the pitch in the last 15 minutes, and well done to the magnificent fans. Did those who watched it spot the great camaraderie and joy amongst our players at the end? Very good to see and makes me hope that "he" may not have "lost the dressing room" after all

It does appear that Ian still retains the backing of the dressing room. What he may have lost is knowing his best attacking plot. Have been saying for weeks our attack is lop-sided with nothing coming from the left. Well, hey presto, we put two extra men on as subs down the left and they produce two matchwinners for Conor and Dapo. I know John wasn't there, but maybe if he had been we might have struck earlier, but it was also noticeable that much of Dapo's influence on the game came from his normal left wing position.

To be fair Kenglo, I thought Dapo seemed to have more of a free reign and it was largely Sadlier who produced the goods on the left when he came on. Having two players who can fill that role is something to relish but not when either are played at wing back. We need either John, Iredale of Beck in there to support them and I actually though Beck improved as the game wore on, just a shame he missed that sitter early doors which seemed to put him off a bit for a while. Hopefully though, that’s given Evatt something to think about now and he’ll both return Dapo to the starting line up and play Sadlier in his proper position on the wing where he’s far more effective. I think despite it being another late show, yesterday will give everyone more confidence and hopefully as you say get everyone behind IE for a good run in. It might just be me but I can see Plymouth having a mighty fall because I don’t think they’re anywhere near as good as their run suggest so I’m sure with the right reinforcements in January we could still make the automatic positions.

not specific to this thread, but will just leave this here. i'm only 4 or 5 mins into it and nodding my head like mad with almost everything. great line by BSA about the brainwashing by the media. backed up by a good example by Souey about Bournemouth. and funny GS referring to Barca 10 years ago. yeah and remind me, hows that working for them now. out of Champions lge at group stage etc & not been to many CL finals lately. and didn't they have 1 or 2 "decent" players back then 10 years ago , that might have explained the success. it'll be interesting to see what what we get from England today. possession obsession or just go for them, 2 strikers, crosses in the box, etc . no doubt the old England failing in the 70's etc had plenty to learn and definitely could get better at playing from the back, and getting more control into their game. less hectic. especially WC at the end of the season, as it was, being knackered and unable to have high intensity box to box etc. but deary me, there is plenty of middle ground. tactics evolve. the old 2-3-5 with 5 forwards, WM , 442, 4231. PRESSING. The way they talk now it's as if, this is it, this is the final solution. we'll only ever play this way. we've solved football. like a trend that people are copying just to be in fashion. rubbish, get ahead of the game. we can get away with it at our level ,as we're a big fish in this pond. I disagree it's going to helps us climb the ladder. if you're a small shop sited opposite Tesco, how the hell is selling the same stuff going to be viable. you have to differentiate, & offer something a bit niche.
