It’s AccyStan ffs!!! And they got!yet another 3 goals against them, because they are that bad at the back, but going forward, always a threat and the score would not have looked wrong had it finished at 4-3 or even 5-3 to them as they had enough chances to have blown us out of site before 50 minutes
Daft situation really that if we win our game in hand we’ll be just 8 points behind the leaders (if)

It's a win but I'm sure it would have been easier if our defence could have been a bit tighter we do seem to shoot ourselves in the foot every now and again. There second goal was a bit fortunate as Johnson was trying to clear his lines, then we got a bit of luck of our own with there defender turning in a header back across goal which made it 2-1 then Lee popped up to get us back level, then it was Dapo at his best turning at the edge of the box and finished just inside the post. Much needed 3 points now onto Tuesday night onwards and upwards COYWM

What a fightback!
We had a terrible first 55 minutes when we just could not cope in any shape or form with Accrington’s aggressive (but legal) tactics.
Our shape was all out early on. Afolayan at left wing back did not work and there was acres of space down our left.
The goal finally came from the left and it was the fault of Williams and Santos combined who both chose to challenge for a bouncing ball. The ball was flicked over both of them leaving our ex-player Joe Pritchard clear on the left. Johnston had to come over and challenge leaving their right winger in 20 yards of space to receive the pass and score easily.
We were just poor from then onwards. Accrington launched ball after ball forward and everybody struggled with them. Our central defenders are poor under high ball pressure.
We struggled to get any fluency and despite numerous corners (all wasted badly) all we had to show were 2 free kicks from Dempsey.
We had no shots on target other than the free kicks in the 1st half – Bodvarsson shooting wide from our only proper chance.
Second half we set off terribly.
A long throw into the area – Trafford punched it to the edge of the area where Lee was outmuscled and the ball headed back and Johnston put in a weak attempt to head clear and headed into his own net.
At that stage 2-0 looked disastrous but it should have been 3-0 a minute later when yet another ball into the area couldn’t be cleared. Trafford was beaten and Santos headed off the line.
Bodvarsson then headed over from close in and all looked lost,
The manager then brought on 3 subs and it changed the game.
Iredale went to left back and Afolayan was allowed to get farther forward. He won a free kick on the edge of the area, Iredale floated in a good centre and Johnston headed across the 6-yard box for the ball to deflect off their defender and in.
So we were back in the game and suddenly well on top.
Lee started a move on the left hand touchline, played the ball into Afolayan who somehow made space and got the ball across to the right. It was played back across and Lee, the man who was on the touchline 5 seconds previously tapped in for the equaliser.
We the took the lead when Thomason got the ball on the halfway line, turned and played an excellent pass to Afolayan on the left and last-year’s Afolayan re-appeared. He moved into the box, shaped to shoot with his right foot, turned onto his left and hit a lovely shot just inside the post. A great goal.
Accrington, who had wasted time shamelessly since the first 10 minutes, then had to attack. We nervously held out against some corners and long throws and then got the reward of 7 additional minutes.
The referee, who was very good, eventually blew after 8½ minutes.
A tremendous fight back after a terrible first 55 minutes.
Hopefully, we have now remembered how to play our style of football and can get 6 points in the next 2 matches this week.
Marks:-
Trafford - 7 A near disaster in the first few minutes when he got caught by kicking out slowly. Under more pressure than usual from long throws. Their 2nd goal came from a poorish punch but he played well.
Isgrove - 5 Attacked reasonably OK but defensively very open
Jones - 5 Had difficulty coping with Accrington’s up and unders
Santos - 5 Along with Williams, caught out badly for the 1st goal. Some decent defending but could not get his head to the numerous long throws into the box. For someone so tall, he is a rank bad header of the ball
Johnston - 5 Like Jones, he struggled with the high balls and headed the ball into our goal for their 2nd goal. Weak heading but set up our 1st goal.
Afolayan - 8 Once Iredale came on, Afolayan went further forward and dominated. Some lovely control and a great goal. Not a left wing back though.
Williams - 4 A mess, together with Santos, for their 1st goal. He could not cope with Accrington’s aggressive style of play
Dempsey - 7 Busy throughout. Had 2 shots on target.
Lee - 7 Usual class. As with all the players, he got caught in possession a few times but when you see our 2nd goal look at his movement. He started the attack on the left wing and finished in a position to score.
Bodvarsson - 3 A terrible game. I like him but it was a bad day. Shot wide from our only real chance in the 1st half and headed a great chance over at the start of the 2nd half
Charles - 4 Not a great day either. Shot wide from his only chance
Iredale - 7 Him coming on changed the game. In addition to freeing up Afolayan, we then got a defender in at left back and he got forward well
Thomason - 5 He got dispossessed badly with his first 3 touches but then improved and put in a cracking pass to Afolayan for our goal
Kachunga - 5 Got knocked off the ball too many times.

Definite credit for ripping it up and playing a system that attacks and wins. But after 300mins of lack lustre.
Without Bradley, even with, the wing back system doesnt work. Once Ian took the handbreak off we start playing the way Ive always thought we could.
Ian now needs to print off a fresh teamsheet. Stick Dapos name on the left hand side attack and pick the rest of the players around that. Really hope he has learnt a lot today.

He won’t Oom because that’s our Ian (Todays Ranieri - aka The Tinkerman) and he just got lucky yesterday Yes, I’m afraid I have to agree with that rioch, IE will not change because he has belief in his system and he’ll do everything to prove it works. Fair play to him yesterday though because at least he had the sense to change quickly what wasn’t working. If it taught him anything though, it’s that Dapo must as OM says be the first name on the team sheet wide on the left then build round him. Can he overcome his stubborn streak or will he just continue to ignore what everyone else can see? Maybe we’ll find out on Tuesday? What worries me still though is the lack of threat from our strikers. I’m not having it that we don’t create chances for them because we do and then they miss them but good strikers mainly make their own chances anyway not just wait for others to. None of the four recognised strikers we have are doing it and apart from one good season for Dion and one for Kacha, none of the four have any history of scoring. If FV have any cash left for January and we’re in and around the top six, a true striker is a priority. One name that will no doubt be raised is Stockton but he again has had only one successful season, last year with Morecambe. I know good strikers cost money but for me it’s the one critical thing this teams missing and if we could just find that I’ve no doubt we can make promotion.

Accy kickstarted their own downfall with an own goal and we took advantage. Once again though, not good enough from Evatt, will he ever learn?

Is there anything more Evattesqe than starting so badly and lowering expectation so much that our fans are delighted when we achieve what we should have done.
Promotion from L2 was par. Top 10 finish in L1 was par.
Ha, too harsh? Perhaps. Evatt now has been shown a way that works. What will he do next is pivitol.

I’m not asking for the return of Parkhoofson’s long ball (which gave me neck ache) or a cultured 60 yard Allardyce pass to drop on a sixpence in the penalty area, but after watching Spurs yesterday and all this ‘playing out from the back’ it’s laboured, boring, dangerous and costly as was proved by Hugo Lloris’s mistakes for both goals. This type of football yields a Ricardo Santos at every turn, unless your Man City and even they get it wrong on the odd occasion (Ederson’s kick to Welbeck could have resulted in an early goal) Pep played this way at Barca and at Bayern and now City. 300 passes at the back, 83% possession, but they had the players to score the goals, which we don’t and we most certainly do not have the coach to play this way. If Evatt does not play the second half side from the AccyStan game (after Iredale’s intro 53 mins) against Burton, then he really is a stubborn, stupid prat and needs to go And the way Aston Villa turned Brentford over yesterday proves that you can have the players capable to get us up the ladder, but not under this chaps leadership

We are 6th in league! I’ll take that as a sarcy retort davidm 😂😂 Up the ladder!! With Ian playing snakes and ladders, 6th will soon be 11th as we are up and down like an elevator

I don’t think David was being sarcy rioch, just stating a fact. I get as frustrated as you do sometimes when Evatt appears stubborn and in fact he probably is but you still can’t deny that he’s brought us a long way in a short time with much less money than other clubs our size at this level. I’m not as pessimistic as you despite our terrible week, last week which with better results would have had us challenging for the automatics and am happy to leave things to IE who sees the players every day and understands what he’s trying to do better than me. Am I happy with everything he does? No of course not, like most everyone I’d like to see Dapo on the left wing as he was on Saturday and I’d also like to see Sadlier given a chance up front since our other strikers aren’t exactly striking but I don’t think we’ve ever had a manager where I didn’t disagree with some of the things he did. We’ve got two games coming up at home now against opposition we should beat convincingly so let’s see where we are after that. I personally think Ian would have to seriously mess up for FV to even think about replacing him, quite rightly in my opinion, so I’d just ask those like yourself and OM to chill out on Evatt and see how things go up to January when hopefully we can move one or two out and bring some quality in for a promotion push.

I was only joshing with davidm W63, I’d never offend anyone and certainly not on here
Pessimistic? Me? 😂😂😂😂 I’m the most optimistic person I know🤔apart from on here and towards Evatt
I’m just yawning over Evatt (change as good as a rest) Your right W63 he has taken us a long way since his appointment and I’m not being ungrateful, but there comes a time when folk have to step up (to the next level) so FV/SB and IE have to take our beloved club to the next level if they can If they can’t, move on

To be honest hes 6th but Parkinson finish 2nd and I was saying we needed better going into Championship.
Just didnt like what I was seeing and didnt think it was the way forward. Evatt is slightly different as I do believe he can still become a good coach. If he keeps his ego in check. Shows an apetite to learn more and adapt. He hasnt got it all sussed just yet. He isnt Cloughie and if he keeps with 352 throughout then i'm convinced hes more interested in his ego than Bolton Wanderers.
Thing is all that said there are some interviews he gives usually post season where he seems much more humble and accepts his limitations. In the season though we dont half get some Keith Hill style nonsense with delusions of Coyle.
