Not wishing to downgrade Evatt’s achievements, but I’ll say this, he’s consistent…. Kind of 🤔
Almost identical
21/22 season - first 7 games all competitions P 7 W 3 D 2 L 2 F 11 A 8 EFL Cup - 2nd round exit to Wigan on pens
22/23 season P 7 W 3 D 2 L 2 F 9 A 8 EFL Cup - 2nd round exit to Villa
It comes down to that quote from Henry Ford…
‘If You Always Do What You’ve Always Done, You Always Get What You’ve Always Gotten‘
It’s time to up the ante, show SB/FV your teeth, ask for some much needed investment and take us to the next level Or move aside or we will be finishing 9th again (even the supercomputer doesn’t fancy us)

I don't want to see Ian walk but if he keeps thinking he's got one of the best centre backs outside of the prem then we are in trouble. I'm all for giving players a chance but surly he should have learned by his mistake with Crellin that you can't keep giving under performing players more chances. Onwards and upwards COYWM

Those quotes seem to backfire on him. "We're the best team in the league" we go on one of the worst runs until we cancel all our games and wait for January. "Hes the best outside the prem" plays shocking.
He now says that out 1-4 defeat is a catalyst for quality players wanting to come to The Unibol.
Remember last seasons "impossible isnt a word. Its I'm Possible" surely evidence enough that Evatt speaks some absolute tripe.
He has accumulated a decent squad though and we play some good stuff. I still think we play with a handbreak on a lot of the time. On the Evatt out scale im only on a 2. But please just sshhh!

We have to accept that the club is still heavily in debt and we just can’t afford to go out and recruit the best players so I actually think Evatt’s done a pretty good job so far given his limitations but I don’t think any of them stand out, certainly not in midfield, other than Kieran Lee and how much longer can we rely on him? Our “best” players were recruited from an amateur club and West Ham reserves and whilst there are undoubtedly jewels to find, I’m not sure we’ve managed it with Rico and Dapo but time will tell. I usually fear deadline day in case we lose our best players but frankly I wouldn’t be bothered if any of our players left before the end of the window. That tells me what I think of the squad we have. I’m not expecting much because we can’t pay the necessary wages so much as I’d love a quality signing or two, I’m not expecting it. As I said previously, in order to bring players in we have to move players out and I’m not sure the players we’d like to see go are sought anywhere else?

True. I actually welcome offers of £1M+ and £3M+ for Rico and Dapo, respectively.
I think theres a real debate to be had on who was better Beevers or Santos? Im sure there will be a loan CB we can that can do a proper job.
Dapo just isnt the player I hoped he would be and hes not what we need in our system. It may be a challenge replacing him like for like but we dont need that.

If Santos just defended instead of pissing about with the ball at the back he for my money is an average defender. We all want what’s best for our beloved club but I get the feeling Ian is just keeping the seat warm until another club comes knocking. For me Beevers was far better than Santos, fingers crossed for a better performance tomorrow onwards and upwards COYWM

I can’t agree with you on Rico chip. For me he’s much better than Beevers, especially given the way IE likes to play out from the back. I hate to imagine Beevers and Wheats trying to do that. I do like Santos and think he has good qualities and I think he showed that against Villa the other night but he also has weaknesses, including concentration. I think we have to bear in mind that he’s only really been at this level for a couple of years and is still learning so he probably needs a bit more time. As for Dapo, he’s never actually performed in any of our big games for me and always goes missing. Is he another of those players who’s skill is undoubted but lacks attitude and perhaps confidence in himself. Or is it because he hasn’t really found his right position yet? Having moved inside he’s nowhere near the player he was on the wing. I feel Evatt’s continued attempts to fit him into the obviously unsuitable No 10 role could be some of the problem but then hey he’s a pro and I’m not!!

Santos is 27 yrs old, you are talking as if he is still a young guy. In all his career he has made a total of 291 appearances, 122 in League 1, 110 in League 2 and the rest in the Conference, Isthmian League and the National League. He has scored a total of 8 goals. In 95 appearances for us he has scored none and his best return in a season was 3. In comparison to Beevers who in his career made a total of 558 appearance none lower than Division 1 where he had 7 seasons and 12 seasons in the Championship. He scored a total of 25 goals. In 132 appearances for us he scored 12 goals, those being scored when he was the same age that Santos is now. There is no comparison and Santos is not going to learn how to be a better defender. Evatt already thinks he is the best defender outside the Premier League....(ROFL ) just let me take a moment out there to compose myself ........so he isn't going to teach him anything. I would take Beevers and or Wheater over Santos any day of the week. And just to add he's Portugese, but I don't see him getting called up to the Portugese squad any time soon. And as for playing well against Villa, he played marginally better than against Sheffield Wednesday that's because he didn't make any glaring mistakes, and did you see his positioning in the lead up to Villa's 2nd and 4th goals, he was completely out of position, moving too far up field, marking players he didn't need to mark and leaving oceans of space in behind?

Beevers' weakness ultimately was his poor distribution, but he scored some cracking goals which Santos is obviously not capable of to date, yet can be very creative. I wish Ian Evatt would stop repeating the same things ad infinitum to Marc Iles, and by the same token Iles repeating them ad finitum to us suffering supporters. I think we were all agreed Santos needed a covering central defensive partner of height and physicality in the close season together with a defensive midfielder to compete with JD Williams. So far we have the injured from the start Toal, who may or not be the answer when someone ready-made was needed. I feel sure all Ian's wittering is to cover up for these signing deficiencies. Yes we have a very good squad, but it needed fine tuning. It's not too late....YET.

For me Santos has got no leadership qualities were as wheats and Beevers have our team went into battle for those two. Sorry to disagree with you 63 I would have wheats or beevers now over Santos anyday don’t get me wrong as I’ve said before Santos wears our teams colours so unless that changes I’ll just have to cringe every time the opposition attacks and hope he doesn’t make a mistake onwards and upwards COYWM

There seems to be a strong attack against Santos and Evatt on here suddenly.
I am not Santos’ greatest fan – his casualness and inability to head a ball worry me – but he is a L1 player as are most of the squad so why this attack on him? I admit I cursed him strongly with his mistake against Wednesday but other players also make mistakes.
With regard to the manager, he has brought us from a desperate rag bag of a squad to an entertaining “win more than we will lose” squad. I have immense respect for what he has done at our club.
Obviously, there are areas where we can improve but overall we are in such a good strong position now.

Sorry if it seems like we are having a go at Santos and Ian but if Ian kept his comments to the changing room and Santos defended as well as we have seen him do then there would be no complaints from me . Fingers crossed and God willing I’ve got at least another 30 years following my beloved Wanderers’s so as I’ve said before as long they are part of my team I’ll support them and criticise them in equal measure as and when I feel they need it. Onwards and upwards COYWM

Beevers Santos debate really has caught alight. I would have probably said Santos but may have been won around. Beevers probably victim to Parkinsons hoofball. There was no one showing for the ball even of he did try and pass it. No doubt hes had a better career but for Bolton Santos has won player of the year and was probably robbed of the same title last year when Dapo won despite a really down turn in October and never really recaptured that form. (For me was Gethin anyway)
I dont think theres as much dislike for Santos on here as there is on the mainland. I think it all stems from Ians comments. Santos has "managers son syndrome" can do no wrong and it really winds people up.
