Gillingham are 22nd in the home form table, with the worst goal diff of any team.
only scored 12 at home in 18 games. that's the worst figures in the Div.
and & conceded 30 at home. also the worst in the Div !.
since Neil Harris got appointed late Jan, and had his 1st game in charge- 1st Feb vs Crewe, they have picked up a fair bit overall.
7 games. 3 wins, 2 draws & just 2 losses and they were both to our play off rivals Plymouth & Ipswich.
& 3 clean sheets in their last 4 home games.
best player for them is the 6ft 2 striker... Vadaine Oliver. scored 8 and 3 assists. wins a lot of aerial duels.
last season Gillingham actually finished 10th. Oliver was the 9th best scorer in the Div with 17 lge goals.
looking at his record, it was a bit of a one off. he's 30 now and never really got close to those heights, but 8 this season is very useful in a struggling team.
our own Kyle Dempsey contributed 8 goals and 4 assists to Gillinghams 10th placed finish last season, by the way.
they have struggled to score at home. 8 blanks in 18 home games. if Vadaine Oliver doesn't score.. chances are they don't score at all... very few others chipping in.
last time out, they beat Lincoln away 2-0. Oliver with a header from a cross by Ben Thompson, then Thompson thumped one in from distance.
see vid below : skip to their goals at 1.28.. & 2nd one is soon after .
in the youtube comments several Millwall fans sad to see Thompson go to the Gills. "gutted to see him leave". "too good for Lge 1 " . and "will be best player you ever had"
and a few of Vadaine Oliver's goals from previous clubs : certainly can threaten on his day.
prediction :
overall, got to tip a win for us. i'll go 2-1. we've had a weeks rest. no excuses. set the Double D's on them...Dapo and Dion and they won't be able to live with them.
our away record is a bit dodgy but surely we can overcome these.
they haven't beat anyone in the top half. home or away. and every single team they've played ( at home) versus the top 10, they've lost to. not even 1 draw.
we've only lost 1 AWAY to the bottom 10 sides. that was Fleetwood. 2 draws , and 3 wins. trouble is, our margin for error is reducing fast. draws won't really do.
they 've certainly got a squeak in this game. bit of decent form. a few clean sheets, 1 very useful player at least, and a method to unsettle us...aerials.
3-1 wouldn't surprise me, but i'll stick with 2-1.
