I wonder if there is any great interest in this match.
From my point of view, I would love a trip to Wembley – I remember the visits in the 1980s in this competition.
People may believe that we have already qualified for the knock out rounds but we haven’t. If we lose to Rochdale, they will finish above us and it will then depend on the result of Port Vale v Liverpool U21s. If Vale win by 4 or more, they would also finish above us. So avoiding defeat is essential.
It looks like the manager is going to make a lot of changes. I wouldn’t, I would play Saturday’s team in the hope that they can develop some cohesion between them and get into a winning way. Likewise, I would also do that against Stockport on Sunday.
I think it is essential that Doyle, Kachunga and Delfouneso play in the hope that they can score and get some confidence between them.
I don’t have great memories of Spotland – the “Chris Taylor” match, the game two seasons ago when Mr Hill made his outburst after the game – not happy memories at all.
By rights, we should win so here’s hoping we can get back to playing our way and winning.

I’m with you davidm I feel the team that played on Saturday should play as it might help with confidence for a lot of the players, he could play Baptiste in place of Jones which should allow Isgrove to go back on the wing. Does anyone know if the FA Cup is on I Follow ? Onwards and upwards stay safe one and all COYWM

Interesting thing about this match:-
If I attend the match it costs me £5 but if I pay to watch it on iFollow, it costs £10.
Something wrong there with iFollow.

Think the pricing is in line with the weather forecast.
Might think a good cup run can spur you on for a good finish. Well two finals last season. Salford, Portsmouth, Tranmere, Sunderland. The form for all those teams was very poor a sacking for Keith Hill. Unsure if Wellens was replaced before or after but around the time. Sunderland had games in hand to win the league around 10 games out they were out of the playoffs with about 5 mins to go before equalizing and then play offs was a dud. Got to admit unsure about Pompey but dont recall a galvanised surge to the top.
I'd change the system tonight. Wing backs Izzy and Gordon. GT, Sheehan and Lee (best passers) in the 3 and Doyle and Kachunga up front. See if one goes in on the backside for one of those.
Gilks, Baptiste, Aimson maybe Brockbank in the 3.

I also think IE should play his strongest team both tonight and against County because losing either will just add to the problems. The fact we’ve got so few fit players anyway should make that easier. I don’t want any system changes but if Johnson is now fit it might be worth giving Aimson a try at RB and moving Izzy forward into his normal position and resigning Delf back to the bench. Other than that it’s pretty much as you were from Saturday. I don’t think tonight will be a pushover by any means because we still don’t have a fully functioning attack but if Doyle and Kachunga can’t do it against L2 opposition, then it really does confirm the doubts about them. Players have a point to prove tonight both to fans and the manager so anything less than a win is wholly unacceptable.

Started off really shaky at the back but that Dapo goal seemed to lift everybody. Should be just a question of how many we score now and hopefully at least one from open play for Doyle and I think Kachunga deserves one too, he’s been superb so far. We do though have to remember that this is only a L2 side and not even their first team.

A good performance.
It has to be said that it was against a League 2 team who made 8 changes but you can only beat what is put in front of you.
The manager kept the main core of Saturday’s team which I was pleased about as it gave them a confidence boost.
We had some sloppy defensive moments. Baptiste gave the ball away in the first few minutes and Rochdale should have scored from it. This passing about between the keeper and the defence nearly cost us a few times as we gave the ball away on many occasions.
On the other hand, going forward we looked good and probably should have scored more. Two rocket shots from Afolayan and John plus a penalty.
A good performance – same again on Sunday please
Marks:-
Dixon - 6 Shot stopping was fine but a couple of awful kicks which could have cost us
Isgrove - 8 Very good, both defensive and attacking
John - 7 Good goal and constantly trying to get forward
Santos - 6 Troubled a few times
Baptiste - 6 Bad mistake in first few minutes which should have cost us
Williams - 7 Very steady – normal performance
Thomason - 6 Very busy
Sheehan - 6 Some impressive passing but also knocked off the ball a few times
Afolayan - 8 Great goal again. Very impressive
Doyle - 7 Very busy and a calm penalty
Kachunga - 7 His best performance so far but still weak with the final ball/touch

I’m going to sound really negative here I’m afraid but I didn’t see anything last night that told me anything had changed. The defender stood yards off Dapo for his goal, almost inviting him to shoot and Doyle should have scored before John volleyed in. After that, what did we do? For 70 minutes we huffed and puffed against a Rochdale second eleven and again never forced the opposition keeper into even a save. If Kachunga couldn’t look good against the poorest defence we’ve played in years, then you’d be disappointed. Doyle runs around a lot but still looks slow and clumsy in the box. He scored a good penalty but never looked like getting one from open play, indeed it was again only Dapo who ran at the defence to get the penalty. I can assure IE that County will present a much bigger challenge on Sunday and if we don’t up our game again in attack, I can see us being brought well down to earth.

Have to agree, 63. Apart from our three finishes Rochdale were our equal, and kept me on the edge of my seat to the end. The triumphalism of the Bolton FM commentary team failed to sell me the idea that things had changed except the result. Our midfield was frequently by-passed too easily, which means we were not always getting tackles in, and though he worked hard the idea of doubling Isgrove's workload does not appeal, especially as the central defenders' passing was not always secure, and neither at times their first touches. I was relieved John looked closer to his best and Kachunga worked harder, but he once or twice chose to pass once again rather then shoot when well placed. We certainly need a better solution to Jones's absence and more solidarity in midfield which I suppose you get from Lee, yet you need the creativity of Thomason and Sheehan, and whoever fills the void next to Doyle and Afalayon.

I wonder if the result would have been different had Rochdale not missed the easy chance early on from Baptiste’s inexplicable mistake Kenglo? I couldn’t believe our nervousness for the first ten minutes when I was convinced we would concede but thankfully Dapo stepped up and saved the day yet again, goodness knows what we’d do if he got injured? Other than that,I don’t think there was a lot different to other games where we’ve been on top and failed to trouble the scorer. As you say, I also questioned the euphoria of the commentary team because I just couldn’t see anything to get excited about but maybe I was missing something? As you say, Kachunga had several opportunities to shoot but again chose to pass instead, our crosses into the box again never found a man and Doyle missed a few and never really looked like scoring. All in all, we never tested the keeper other than the two early shots from Dapo and John and unless we find some more firepower before weekend, I genuinely fear for us against Stockport. The fact is, we are still an accident waiting to happen at the back and aside from Dapo, totally impotent up front and as we know, if you can’t score you don’t win. Maybe I’m wrong and last nights result has lifted confidence for the weekend but I remain to be convinced I’m afraid.
