What do people think about the new membership scheme?
As a season ticket holder, I am automatically classed as a member but to get a ticket for the Stockport FA Cup game, I have to become a member. Something not quite right there.
As a positive, I assume it is intended to weed out the yobs who lobbed stuff onto the pitch against Wigan and if it can do this, then good.
B U T
how do the occasional, Saturday morning type of fans – who decide to go to the match on the morning of the game – get to the match? There is to be no more “pay at the turnstile” option for them and there must be a sizable number who will be prevented from attending.
I also can’t see any benefit at all for all the thousands who will be forced into membership – no discounts, still disgraceful booking fees when buying tickets so what do I get for making the effort?
Can I still buy additional tickets for family members who want to come to the match with me?
As I say, positives and negatives but the occasional fan is being punished and therefore I would expect our attendances to fall slightly as a result.

You might be classed as a member at the moment, but to buy your season ticket next season you will have to be registered as a member.
You don't lose anything by being a member and you don't gain anything. It takes about 2 mins so no hassle.
I don't know if they are issuing a physical membership card, but if they did, what would stop them having a pay at the turnstile if you showed a membership card.
The one benefit is, as you say, it may deter a few of the loutish elements.

Makes sense that the club has a direct link to us to market too. Not much footfall at that club shop to be honest. Limited to match day and only one East side. Makes sense to have a bigger online presence.
Also wondered if this was more about prevention for the type of fans that only go to Wigan games and take flares in. Would people act to idiotic if they knew club had name and addresses.
Apart from an initial 10mins of applying I cant see many drawbacks to be honest

I agree with David, seems a good way of reducing the gate by removing walk ups and I don’t think that’s a small number either. We aren’t a United or Liverpool where they have waiting lists for season tickets, we have a core number and the club already has all the information they need on us from that. If I then buy a ticket for my daughter, as I did for the Rotherham game, she has to become a member for one game. How stupid is that? I’m sorry but all I can see from this is smaller gates. I’d level a guess that if this had been in action since day one this season, we’d be thousands down on the gates we’ve had. Surely that’s revenue we can’t afford to lose? I’m afraid our owners seem to be applying a serious virtue signalling attitude here with this following the no betting ban at the ground. I neither want to be bombarded with merchandising messages from company’s the club have sold our data on to, which they certainly will. And what about away fans, if they cause a nuisance? They won’t be members. No I don’t like this at all and neither do I respect the threat not to be able to purchase my season ticket if I don’t comply. I can’t believe some think this is all ok because I for one certainly don’t. As far as I’m concerned, as a ST holder, I’m already a member.

There is no acknowledgement of the problems people have had with the system. Apparently it is only 10 to 15 people on social media who have problems with it. So patronising His apparent aim is to get “data” so we can expect to be hit with endless emails in future. A terrible piece of PR from him.
