There's the rub, Oohm....if people with cheque books come along with offers for our best players. Assuming FV will need the cash in the bank for the club's future stability, will Ian Evatt be able to find replacements of equal quality? There aren't many Dapos going free, and, remember, he was pointed in our direction by an old Bolton favourite in Kevan Nolan. Sky were talking about Santos on Monday, and at his best I would say he is unreplaceable. Thats the Brentford "moneyball" model. Its what will make us sustainable and even profitable. They got Ollie Watkins(a 1 in 3 striker from Exeter) to replace Scott Hogan. They replaced him with Ivan Toney. Thats just good scouting but also because they keep making better deals it means they can widen thier range on the next deal. You'd be naive to think Santos and Dapo wouldnt be linked. So whats the price? Whos the next guys?

My concern is the manager how long will it be before the team's like Derby,Forest, who are struggling look to Ian to become there manager. Fingers crossed Sharon and our board will be able to keep hold of him because let's face it every manager is ambitious. Brilliant performance yesterday even the Cambridge game was good the only thing missing was goals.Onwards and upwards stay safe one and all COYWM

Good point Chip. I thougt it would already come as was sure The Rooney project at Derby would end. IE lives in Derbyshire and had just won double promotions. Not sure why they didnt approach that but maybe because they were amidst a takeover so no one wanted to make a decision/pay off.
There will be other clubs. Huge clubs but the two you mention seem to be on the down and financially could be the next disaster club.
Hope Evatt realises that its a pretty special place to be at the moment and next season we coulf be championship and Forest L1. Couldnt really begrudge Evatt a big club but hope that a.) We get very well compensated and b.) we have a plan B.

Of course there are bigger clubs still but unless you’re a Manure, City or Arsenal your players and manager are always vulnerable. I have no problem with IE moving on if he’s brought success to us, good luck to him and the same to any players who do the same, as long as we get properly compensated. I’m still convinced that if IE gets us up this year, FV will look to sell the club to owners who have deeper pockets, suitable for the Championship. I think you can slightly fudge your way out of L1 but no way can you exist in the Championship without the requisite funds, which I’m not sure FV have access to. Still, let’s not get carried away but right now I don’t actually see a better team than us in L1 and another good win against the Millers next week and even Sunderland will be getting nervous.

Yes we are a big club Whites. No doubt about that. And a good club too. Not sure how much the likes of Preston, Millwall, Luton, Coventry, Peterborough, Bristol City, Barnsley, Hull, etc have spent but maybe an investor rather than takeover would see us combative in that league. Especially if we use the loan market well.
Jumping the gun a bit though.

Good friend of mine is a Sunderland fan and for 40plus years, he’s seen some good but more bad times, but he reckons this side will walk this league as it’s the best Sunderland side he’s seen for years and I have to say, I’ve never known him sound so arrogant as he’s never been like that before, so it’ll be interesting to see what they have to offer and what positions we are both in the league when we meet them.
W63, I do hope you’re not sitting on the fence versus the Millers as you seem to have a soft spot for them😂
Ian has us on fire at the moment so long may it continue I do have to pinch myself sometimes

I agree with that OM on the list of clubs you mention but I suspect most of those are just content to remain and exist in the Championship, whereas we know that Wanderers fans will push for the PL and certainly IE would. To keep the manager and our best players, we’d have to be at least seen to be serious about pressing for promotion. In that regard I’m not sure FV would have the necessary finance to accomplish that and may take advantage of us as an attractive proposition for a new owner? One step at a time though as you say and let’s not get ahead of ourselves!! 😉

Certainly there’s no sitting on the fence, I’m looking for us to give them a good stuffing in response to our 6-1 hammering at their place last time. I’d fancy us against anyone at the moment including Sunderland, so I hope your mate keeps feeling arrogant! The best thing is I don’t think we’ve hit full pelt yet and with a couple of places in the squad still available and Xav and Baka to come back in I’m super confident that we can beat anyone at the moment. So basically rftr, no splinters in my bum 😉

Well I m glad you’re splinter free and have cleared that one up W63
One thing if FV did sell up, I’d like to believe that SB would not just allow this club end up in just anyone’s grasp, I don’t believe she would feel as though she’s honoured the name of BWFC if it fell into the wrong hands, she sounds too astute a businesswoman to do that, so if she did sell up, we’d be in the best hands, in my view

Great comment, grud. Just hope FV don't disappoint Evatt by forcing him to sell too soon along the way, Whites says he doesn't know the size of FV's purse strings. I still believe they have tremendous backing from a host of supporters, including Trevor Morris, Geoff Thomas, Michael James, and Nick the drummer apart from Sharon's own successful company, so why blow smoke rings ?

Pass the ball 3 times in a row and its already looking up. I like Johnson but he ended last season really terribly. After being in a good shout for automatic promotion he nearly threw it away and then went out in the play offs when they sure would have fancied thier chances against the 4 teams. Confidence is high no doubt but lets see what happens when they have 2 or 3 bad results. Got to admit watched the Sunderland documentary and have a lot of sympathy for thier fans. Bolton in the last days of Davies/Ken and then FV would have made an amazing fly on the wall doc if they agreed to an all access(which they wouldnt have done)
