This is the part of the game where Ian Evatt must get the tactics right
Dapo on a hat trick, we’ve every reason to go for this now and finish them off but by the eck, when are we going to stop conceding ffs
COYWM ⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️ Let’s knock em out🥊🥊🥊🥊

We need to get another as Rftr says and try to kill them off. If we try to defend we’ll come unstuck, just keep going as we are to start and see if Dapo can get his third. I still wish he’d started with Lee in the middle though because I feel we’re much stronger with him in there so if we can get another one, I’d take either Sheehan or Sarce off for him. COYW we can win this one and make up for last Monday.

I told you we had trouble scoring!!
Tremendous performance. In reality, we could, possibly should have scored more and defensively we had a few iffy moments but what a great game.
We started slowly and Gordon was just too weak when their winger ran at him and shouldered him off the ball to centre for an easy tap in. Our marking in the middle was a bit off but really it was a mistake by Gordon.
He then made up for it by getting forward and laying the ball into Afolayan’s feet and a quick shot through the keepers legs saw us level
Afolayan was terrorising the right back, got him booked for pulling back and then the same man tripped him in the box for Doyle to score the penalty.
The Ipswich manager then subbed the right back after less than 30 minutes
We were well on top but susceptible down the wings and their winger again skinned Gordon and centred. I think Santos got the touch that turned it into the net.
Ipswich then had a dominant 10/15 minutes and their winger yet again got in, beating Williams for pace, to centre for their striker to side foot wide. A really bad miss.
We capitalised on that miss from the resulting goal kick playing the ball to Afolayan who turned on the edge of the box and curled a wonderful shot into the corner.
So instead of being 3-2 down at half time, we were 3-2 up.
At the start of the second half, I hoped that we would keep it tight but No, we just slaughtered them. First Sheehan calmly turned a loose ball into the corner of the net and Johnston hit another scramble into the roof of the net so, instead of it being tight it was 5-2. Amazing.
At this stage we were absolutely running rings round them and could probably have added to the score.
The last 20 minutes or so, we slackened off and Ipswich got more possession. They hit the post following a free kick. Defensively, we did react slowly at times but other than that we held them off well.
An absolutely excellent performance – well done
Marks:-
Dixon - 7 Very little to do. No blame on the goals
Jones - 7 Very steady. No need for him to attack much
Gordon - 7 Troubled by their winger for both goals but then set up Afolayan for the first goal
Johnston - 7 Solid – on the spot for his goal
Santos - 7 It may sound churlish when we have won 5-2 but he was troubled quite a bit and not marking too well for their goals.
Williams - 8 Dominant in the centre
Sarcevic - 8 Endless running. He has definitely lost his shooting boots at the moment but dominated Ipswich’s midfield
Sheehan - 8 Some class passing and took his goal well
Afolayan - 9 Strangely, he didn’t have a great deal of the ball but when he did, wow. Scored 2, won a penalty and force their full back to be subbed early on
Isgrove - 7 Very busy – had to restrain himself a bit once he was booked
Doyle - 8 Endless good running. I just wish he could get a poacher’s goal and then the goals will durely flow
Kachunga Not as an astute wide man as Isgrove but OK
Lee

Compare this victory to the last time we were in L1 under Parkhoofson
There’s a cavalier approach to this side and they don’t know when to stop. It’s so exciting to be a Wanderer for now so long may it continue
Imagine if we bring in a striker in January to help with goals from striking positions and we could be in the top 2 come end of season
Well done Trotters I’m so proud

What a result from a notoriously bad ground for us. Could even Barry Knight denied us 3 points today?
Seems we are set up perfectly for an away team. (Most) Teams cannot do a Burton and set up like that and certianly not a team as big as Ipswich.
Crazy to think I still think we will get better almost to a man. Dixon us growing in confidence and stature. Jones should improve his final ball. Santos and John will get match fit and back to thier best. Johnstone will get a better partnership when played with regular partner. Maybe MJ and Sheehan are playing at thier peak tbh but Sarce still to find his shooting boots. Dapo can target 15-20 goals and smash that. Doyle can just get that bit finely tuned. Isgrove can really add that killer instinct and Baka and Ameachi can come in and really bolster.
Do i sign this comment off by asking "can we keep conceding first/early in matches?" Not tonight. Will enjoy a pint and EFL on Quest tonight as much as anyone can avoid Colin Murray.

Digging up old ground but Parky took on a team of senior players and Hasslebanked a promotion. Like Michael Duff at Cheltenham. Awful stuff. And people talk about the embargo. Evatt got a load of L1 at best young players. Got promotion and wants more. Did Parky sell any of his signings for profit? All we heard about was sow's ears and cut cloth. Well Evatt had no money but imagine that this squad of players(percentage wise) are the most profitable squad of players in the country.

There's the rub, Oohm....if people with cheque books come along with offers for our best players. Assuming FV will need the cash in the bank for the club's future stability, will Ian Evatt be able to find replacements of equal quality? There aren't many Dapos going free, and, remember, he was pointed in our direction by an old Bolton favourite in Kevan Nolan. Sky were talking about Santos on Monday, and at his best I would say he is unreplaceable.

I don’t see any of the players going anywhere this season, unless obviously a mega price is offered, which I doubt but if we are to keep the likes of Dapo and Rico after that then we have to be in the Championship which is why for me promotion is essential and I believe achievable.
