Come on Evatt get some changes here. Dapo has been awful today put Fons out left and bring Mad on down the right we’re causing them no problems at all here and are going to give it away if we don’t get a second.

It seems to me that we are shutting up shop and playing on the counter attack me personally I think we should go for the throat and get the second goal but what do I know COYWM

Well, 3 more points but honestly we were so poor going forward today, FGR had no threat and we should have won far more comfortably. Our passing, movement and crossing was dreadful. Other than his cross for the goal what again did Delfouneso contribute to the game, yet he’s in every week? I know it doesn’t matter how you win but that’s the poorest we’ve been for weeks. We’re so close now but we still need to work on our forward play, these odd goal wins won’t last forever.

A well earned win against a pretty good Div 2 team. Our general defensive solidity more than offset a certain lack of composure and despite some poor choices( fouls against) some clumsy passing and careless possession we dug in.
A really good goal set us apart and just maybe without Matt here and going forward FG lack the firepower to outpace us to the line.
Delfouneso albeit not worthy of any marks going forward otherwise turned the game with his one contribution and also won a very important defensive header just afterso probably his highest mark from me. Comfortably though our weakest link as ever. At least Dapo tries to go forward but he just made too many errors today.
Gilks 8 Jones 7 Santos 8 Baptiste 8 John 7 Thomason 6 Lee 7 Williams 7 Delfouneso 5(all on one moment) Dapo 5 Doyle 7

I think we’ll just have to put up with the Fonz and his one cross for a goal per game Obviously, Ian prefers to stick with his ex Blackpool contingent BUT, it does seem to be grinding is results We didn’t really create that much going forward, save for the goal and that’s the only disappointment as FGR were non existent at time’s Talk about ECO friendly FGR, they were very sparing in the excitement as an attacking threat and Gilks had virtually nowt to do Well done Trotters another super 3 points. We can only win our games and not really worry about the others, let’s just do our job COYWM ⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️ Oh, jab was fine W63, in and out, and watched it on the iPad from my car In fact, anyone off the street could have just walked in, given details and got the jab without booking. They were very well organised Astra Zeneca jab too Let’s kick this Covid into touch 🥊🥊🥊

Our pressing game saw us through together with steadfast central defending. Thought the ref gave free kicks against us too easily in the second half, and allowed too much heavy closing down on Afalayon throughout, and particularly shirked a penalty kick for him when he was brought down with a charge in the back as he moved from the left by-- line. A very good goal made by Delfouneso, who was also seen to do some defending, but it's embarrassing to see Doyle having to plough such a lone furrow.

Anyway, a hard match but a 1-0 win will do me. A very good result. In fact, a good professional performance – not outstandingly attacking but very solid defending. I think Forest Green are a good size and would still see them getting promoted. We controlled them well. We don’t have the ball much in the opponents’ box but that’s the way we are and will be until the end of the season. Make a few chances, take 1 or 2 and don’t concede. That will get us promoted. We had a couple of “heart in mouth” moments in the first half but controlled the match in the 2nd half. I rate that as one of our best performance (after Cambridge) based on the quality of opposition. Colchester at home and then another difficult away match at Newport. Keep it going Marks:- Gilks - 8 One good save in 1st half plus many excellent catches Jones - 7 Steady. Initially had problems with their player Wilson but coped John - 7 Good Santos - 9 Excellent – as usual Baptiste - 9 Again, absolutely solid Williams - 7 Steady Thomason - 7 Got caught a couple of times in the 1st half but good Lee - 8 Played much further forward than usual but played very well Delfouneso - 7 Great cross for our goal Afolayan - 7 Came in for some rough treatment. Couldn’t get as far forward as normal Doyle - 7 Hardly had a touch except for a brilliant shot. Isgrove Miller Gnahoua Tutte

Must have woke up on wrong side of bed as feel like moaning an awful lot today. Park that for a sentence. Great win. Clean sheet. Sort of proves Evatt right even if Gilks hobbled off in 5 mins we could stick an outfield player in and providing they play like that it Brockbank or Tutte would get clean sheets, clean shirts and clean shorts too. On paper the toughest game. Maybe that will even tun out to be the case.
Now the moans.
Couldnt enjoy that game because the camera angle seemed too low and too left of centre. Just couldnt get an idea of shape. I know FGR probably not on Sky an awful lot but find a better spot.
Not a great game. Doyle showing why he needs to play. Only 1 guy on the pitch finishes that volley. But for the rest of the match played like he had boots on the wrong feet. Delf again nothing, think the cross was made to look better by the sublime finish.
The subs came on and did very nothing. No Maddison and it seems the plan with him is if we can avoid playing you we will. Fair enough if we keep winning.
Think i got it wrong by championing Thomasson. He didnt fit the game and looked like his confidence was low. Stood out as being an academy player which was not the case before hand. Maybe he was confused as to where he was playing.
Positives Jones gets better each game. Baps and Santos flawless(though how you can win a free kick by being obstructed by the sun is a new one) i thought Williams was immense today. My Man of the match. Dapo did well in buying us time and possession.

I know we had today but previously and ive said before Gilks has been so well protected that has to have a weight on the risk/reward scale.

Couldn’t get as far forward as normal Doyle - 7 Hardly had a touch except for a brilliant shot. Isgrove Miller Gnahoua Tutte Well I have to say David, football is clearly a game of opinions and I saw the game and some performances greatly different to you today. I thought in particular John was really poor, turned back every time he received the ball, Thomason was totally out of position and could easily have cost us a couple of goals with sloppy passing. Williams worked hard but was a shadow of himself without Lee alongside him. Lee himself was also nowhere near as effective as he is in midfield. Doyle, other than his goal was hopeless, as was Delfouneso, as usual. In my opinion we were lucky to win today. I thought FGR were poor and in fact one of the weakest teams we’ve played and had we upped the pressure on their defence feel we could have won very comfortably instead of once again hanging on. We seemed to yet agains slip back into the slowly slowly sideways and back method of earlier in the season and how you can even compare it to the Cambridge game amazes me. Still, we all see things how we see them and though we disagree on today, we can’t disagree on another 3 points and another clean sheet, so onwards and upwards and hopefully another 3 points on Friday, which would definitely see us in the top 3.

You make some interesting points there, Whites. I hadn't noticed John passing back so much as you, but I certainly am missing his upfield forays which were so unsettling for opponents when he first joined. I wonder if that is because Afalayon is being asked to do too much up the left flank rather than offering midfield creativity in support of Doyle. Equally Lee's defensive link with Williams is one of the major reasons for our run, though Sarcevic's absence does make for some sort of compromise in the link to attack. I didn't detect the sideways passing too much but did notice a lack of drive and pressure on the FG defence, though our defensive pressing was again first class. My ideal midfield three is Lee, Williams, and Thomason, and I know that leaves the puzzle of who best to pick to support Doyle, but he is worthy of support and that is a puzzle Ian Evatt has still to solve in order to realise our hopes for automatic promotion. It is significant that we have had good results against all the current top three except Tranmere, who, you may recall, were there for the taking, at least in the away fixture.
