must be nice to have your manager just talk sense in an interview. well worth a listen to young Cloughie previewing our game. key points to listen to . 0.46. came in and tried to lift the players..put a smile on players faces. our manager can't manage to put one on his own face. and how many times has he referenced confidence or this type of issue. if you can't diagnose the problem. you're unlikely to fix it. 1.35 talking about how Liverpool, as good as they are don't look the same due to dip in confidence. can happen to the best. confidence .that magic ingredient he says. his dad certainly knew how to give it out, and he's learned well. a shadow of his dads ability but more than good enough for this level. 2.30 an example of his dry humour..internal inquiry about no fish & chips on team bus. ! sounds like something his dad would say. 3.45 shot targets he aims for each game. 20 at home. 15 away. as AndyL referenced last week, aiming to take a shot is like an alien concept for us. try to walk it in & be too precise. our manager would rather obsess about dominating possession despite it having no end product. Mansfield aren't even in the top half for possession. www.whoscored.com/Regions/252/Tournaments/9/Seasons/8306/Stages/18827/TeamStatistics/England-League-Two-2020-2021Mansfield are 6th in the rankings for shots on target..yet we're 18th. & we have last seasons topscorer and they don't. 4.25 talks about Bolton..hit and miss... but what we have for CERTAIN ....some of the best players in the league on paper. quite agree ,as does Cloughie. Evatt backers seem to want to slate our players just to give Evatt excuses. Mansfield fans could have felt the same with their worst start for 100 yrs. get competent management in, and they are now on best run for 30 years. NC thinks, like i do, we're quite capable of mounting a challenge for the play offs.

A level headed interview that RTF, unlike our frustrated leader's interviews. Blame anyone/thing, but himself. Confidence is everything and I don't think you'll have that playing angry.
Clough's given us a warning in the early goal threat, but how will we handle it... Evatt, where are ya? 20 shots at home, how many do we average a game, especially away?... RTF?
Can't see nothing but a loss and I'll say angrily (lol) that we'll lose 3-1.

Both hadn't played in some time and then thrown in at the deep end. Evatt may have seen signs of brilliance in training, but even he should know as a former player, match fitness is completely different. They should have been bled in as subs with about 10/15 mins left when the opposition team has tired somewhat. Yea, I know John was injured in training, but maybe murder ball was too much. Says it all. Even in the BN, when fans knew of the team sheet with John and Lee on it they said it was an act of desperation.

It’s going to be interesting to see what kind of a team IE puts out tomorrow with the injuries and no Delaney. You can just bet that in will come Baptiste and Delfouneso, which will turn me off right away. I’ve bought my pass for the game but seriously, if he does bring those two in and they let us down again, I think that will be the last time this season that I’ll invest money in watching them and I’ll stick to the home games. I’d like to be in Evatt’s head right now because I genuinely think tomorrow’s game could be a decisive one. For me Greenidge to replace Delaney not Baptiste and Thomason and Gnahoua to start, leaving Fonz and Crawford on the bench. It might be a step too far for him but I’d even think about giving Darcy a run in midfield and leave Isgrove out. Let’s see but the right team can win this one. Despite the run they’re on they’re no great shakes and with a good performance we can see them off.

Just thinking about that interview again. When Clough talks about us having some of the best players in the league and even a division above, well, that's more of a put down on Evatt more than anything and an 'overconfidence' boost for our players...

One thing's for sure. Kioso had no love of Evatt or Bolton. Money talks but just wonder if the recall was engineered.
The team doesn't look happy or committed to my eye. Ifear for what Darcy must think.
Anyway presumably Brockbank or Baptiste will play in the centre.
I have no idea what sytem we played defensively on Sat. Didn't look like a back four with Jones and Jackson pressing on. Jackson hit some splendid free kicks and corners so much better than Crawford. Maybe he can hold a left midfield role.
I don't think we stand a lot of chance but will again watch.
Such a shame. With all the other worries and anxieties just now wouldn't it be great if we saw a stirring and uplifting fight rather than the usual pedestrian dross.
Still if Evatt's ambition is to make them angry he should be able to do that

here's another manager (doing a good job at Exeter) talking in glowing terms about one of our players, after the recent game. www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/exeter-bolton-matt-taylor-sarcevic-19616035the Exeter manager Matt Taylor ( not the ex-bwfc player) . "With runners off the back of our central midfielders, the lad Sarcevic, there’s no-one better in the league at doing that. We saw him last season in terms of Plymouth’s promotion team and for one moment we didn't’ quite tag him that was their equalising goal. On the balance of the chances though, I thought we were the better team. It was a tight game with two good teams on show."

It’s hard to know what to expect tonight.
Mansfield are on a terrific run of results and we are struggling.
Presumably Baptiste will come in for Delaney but after that I am not sure how else he will change the team, if at all. Heavens knows there are quite a few of Saturday’s team not worthy of a start.
I wish that somehow he could get someone up alongside Doyle to support him and cause danger instead of 2 wide men. In my mind, Delfouneso is a striker (not a very good one at the moment) but he plays him as a winger so we are always stuck with just one out and out attacker.
Defensively, apart from Santos, you could throw the names up in the air and see who lands where as they all susceptible to errors.
The goalkeeper position is farcical. We set off with a young kid and dropped many points because of it before the manager made a change and brought in Gilks. Realistically though, Gilks is not the answer. Did anyone else notice that for both goals against Tranmere he did not dive? He probably couldn’t have saved them but he is so slow down to shots along the ground, presumably because of his age. Shots in the air, he is fine with. We must play him as the alternatives, Crellin or Alexander, are scary but why haven’t we sorted this problem out by now?
Midfield, we seem not to be able to fit players with reputably good skills into proper positions within the team. Sarcevic for some reason cannot dominate games, Crawford, well he is awful – so weak and Darcy is, for what ever reason, ignored. What has happened to Sonny Graham? Not outstanding last year but a worker. Totally disappeared.
I am still of the opinion, that somewhere amongst this sizable mass of players, a team can emerge that can win on a regular basis but, so far, the manager has failed to do it.
I’m disappointed that the manager will not be sitting in the stand tonight following the red card. He may have got a different perspective on the game as, at the moment, his interpretation of the games differs wildly from mine.
On to tonight – as usual I am the optimist but maybe tempered a little by the utter dross they have served up recently so a 1-1 draw.
