Great to finally meet 63 hope the season gets better COYWM Yes and great to see you too chip, sincere thanks for fighting your way across the stand to meet up at half time. I hope your arm is soon better but really you could have found something less serious to get out of helping me paint my greenhouse!! ;-)) as for for the game,it was just so good to be back watching players at least trying to play football. At least I think they were trying? Sadly it just revealed how much room for improvement there is and how much work Keith and Flicker have to do. Like you though chip, I was disappointed with the outcome from a team now of senior players. I know it’s early days but really some of the mistakes were pub team quality and hard to defend. Still KH will have learned a lot from that so let’s hope it’s the base and we don’t see a performance as poor as that again. The support though was magnificent so much respect to all who made the journey and continued to sing and chant through the whole game.

It’s probably asking a lot for all the new faces to hit it off in their first game
but
- I expect us to score our first goal(s) of the season
- I expect to see attacking positive football
- I know we will have tremendous support
Fingers crossed – a point at least.
Well, I was right on 3 of the 4 points - pity about the last one!
- Once we get Murphy/O'Grady match fit, we will score goals,
- We did play positive, albeit naive, football,
- The support was magnificent.
You can see that Keith Hill will change the negative, mind-numbing performances of previous years and I will put down the appalling amateur defending down to lack of match fitness. Hobbs and Wright cannot surely be so bad again.
Hopeful for points against Oxford - not sure about Sunderland.
So despite a hammering that truly could have been double figures, I am convinced that things are on the up.

I hope you’re right about Tuesday David because to have any chance of survival, we desperately need to start getting some points. The absence of Murphy and O’Grady yesterday though concerns me because without them we were totally toothless and if we do have any places left, I think we need to add to the striker positions. We need to win games to survive and if we’re constantly struggling up fronts we’re not going to trouble many teams. Maybe when Connor Hall is back fit it may help but of course we don’t know how he will perform at this level. Not trying to be negative, because I do understand the issues around yesterday’s performance, it has shaken my confidence in our ability to not be relegated, so let’s hope the players can get up to fitness quickly and our strikers return sooner rather than later.

I agree with you on the strikers, whites. We had Crawford & Weir then Crawford & Politic then Politic on his own at different times yesterday but none of them are out and out strikers.
I still haven’t seen any comment on why Murphy & O’Grady were not available yesterday – injuries? Lack of match fitness?
When I say that “things are on the up”, I do concede that we are 90% certain to be relegated.
But things are on the up because of our style of play. We will attempt to win games away from home, we will play a style of football that is pleasing, maybe naïve but pleasing. We will be entertaining. We will lose matches but, once the defence remembers how to defend, we will not be hammered every week.
After yesterday, I think that the miracle of escaping relegation is not on but going to watch us play will be much better. I will happily accept that after the last 2 years.

While I agree about the strikers, 63, something has to be done to try to make our defence a fortress. I know we were a bit lucky to get the 0-0 v Coventry, but that was with the young players. With so called experienced signings why are we going from bad to worse defensively ? And do we need Alnwick , now seemingly fit, back in goal ?

Think you might have a point on the Alnwick shout Ken It’s one thing breaching a weak defence but having seen all 6 of their goals, I reckon 4 of them were stoppable by a decent keeper and Matthews is not Well done to the amazing 2600 fans, what an absolutely amazing support we have We’ve been down to Division 4 before and bounced back and we will bounce back again but we are going down that’s for sure COYWM

Absolutely agree on the defence, if yesterday’s was a typical example of our ability we are as good as down now. Top managers attack and defend as a team and even in ordinary teams, forwards make defensive headers regularly, think both SKD and Madine, so maybe missing proper strikers yesterday penalised us at both ends. To be fair to Rotherham, they passed and moved the ball really well and though they had nearly all the luck and bounce of the ball, they were well worth their win. It was though clear that our players were lacking fitness and also the ability of knowing where each other were. It also seemed that for some reason Hobbs was the one tasked with both channeling the ball out of defence and starting forward moves, not a role I think he’s suitable for, regularly being either caught in possession or too slow to distribute.
I liked the look of Bridcutt in the centre and our new winger from Stoke, who once he starts working with our left backs and midfield could cause real problems for defenders, especially when fully match fit. The jury’s out on the rest of them and although I’m not a fan of Alnwick, I also think it’s time to give him a chance in place of Mathews, who may well be losing confidence through no real fault of his own and benefit from a period on the sidelines. I’m not giving up on survival yet but unless we get the proper strikers back soon it’s div 2 next season I’m afraid. Hopefully not but at least as David says, despite our capitulation, there was no attempt to just hoof it as there would have been previously and it looks like proper football has returned. Nice to see you back by the way rftr.

Its been an all too common problem that all our keepers since Jussi have made a very promising start and declined. Bogdan was then replaced with Lonergan both were in poor form when we got Amos in who blew them out of the water before dropping like a stone. Mark Howars steadied it and Alnwick came in and looked much better all for him to be replaced by remi matthews, still an odd decision. Although his distribution was questioned he seemed to drop less clangers than Remi.
Was hoping that Turner would be the eventual and permanent answer but not.
Im not even going to entertain throwing Matt Alexander in the hat.

As much as I didn't enjoy yesterday we finally scored, let's face it we are still in pre-season and we might have to take a lot more defeats before the team starts to jell we still have 114 points to play for and at the minute we are 16 points adrift as long as we can get a team together for next season when we all start on the same points. We might as well try and enjoy it we will win some games along the way but it might not be enough. COYWM

We still have a grey cloud in EFL deduction looming over too so in all honesty were down. We may even go down with negative points. But to go into every game with fans giving it "results dont matter, least we have a club". That will wear thin to me, these are professional footballers we have brought in. Not mascots, competition winners and celebtrity fans. They should be sore after a defeat like that and want to get better and better. Keith Hill didnt come here to lose by 5 goals, Sharon Britton didnt hire him to do that could have stuck with Jimmy and the kids. If a defender scuffs a clearance or doesnt pick up a man you cannot keep saying "least we have a club".

Ken I agree with everything you have said but if you voice your opinions about getting thrashed 6-1 then you're too negative and you should just go and support someone else that's what some fans will say. I'm sorry but watching that on Saturday really made me feel sorry to be a Wanderer yes we have a club but I think to many people are happy to use that as an excuse for a very poor performance. Don't get me wrong I expected us to get beat yesterday but maybe 2-1 or 3-2 but never 6-1. I thought he may have inter grated some of the new signings with a few of the youngsters until the new signings were ready but saying all that I'll still be watching and hopefully things will get better. COYWM God you called me Ken, a reminder that i did promise a name change. In this fast changing world, once an OM, always an OM!! However, given that all the names of the players, management and owners have changed, if you’d prefer me to use your new moniker then to keep the peace I’m happy to oblige? I do have to agree about yesterdays performance though. We can make excuses if we want but as unfit and unaccustomed as they were, there were some really poor performances. KH is going to have to work on that but without any real threat up front it was really a pretty simple task for Rotherham to push men forward. It was noticeable that Rotherham played much higher up the pitch than we did and though Mathews rolled the ball to our players, we were far too deep to get it out. I’m not recommending hoof, God forbid but we do need to get much higher up the pitch and pressure the opposition or it’s going to be high scores against us every week.

Sorry Miss B I must have missed the name change bit. I still think there's room for a strong mix of youth and senior players but I don't think things will get much better before at least the end of October. COYWM

Re the EFL penalties I wonder if they are waiting to see what our position is at xmas, if we are near enough down, then we will get a points reduction as it won't really change our end position. If we are fighting to stay up etc then it will be a suspended points reduction. I can't believe that FV and the EFL haven't already discussed this long and hard before the takeover.
RE our challenge, I saw a post from somebody saying we wouldn't have let 6 in with Wheater and Beavers, what about Hull City away last season, that was capitulation at its best.
Hill and Flitters have a nigh on impossible job this season,we are still in a transfer embargo position so the best we get are other teams rejects.
