another match thread started by me on the day of the game? Seems interest is lost already by most. Can hardly blame you. As the thread alludes to this will be going into hour 11 without a goal. Would a loss with goal be satisfactory for the fans today? Is that all we can hope for?
In the Bristol City thread I predicted an aggregate score over these two games to be 6-1, the defeat leaves this prediction to be 4-1. Not sure if it's stubbornness and not wanting to change my mind but I'm sticking with it. Looks right to be honest. It's probably par for the course.
I have an odd feeling that we will take the lead today. I have a feeling it will be short lived and may even work against us if it triggers a response from the Villa fans and better players. I also have a feeling that the unpleasant JT will score for them. (Corner, header) though I'll admit I've not even checked if he's fit for selection.
I can't see any result from today adding any weight on Parkinson's shoulders, this is a game we are just expected to lose so anything but a "Reading" style defeat or possibly a no holds barred post match interview from the manager, then Parky should see us through to the international break. (does Ameobi get a call up to Nigeria? He's the only thing close to an international(senior). Didn't we used to get some good Scottish, Irish and Scandinavians? When did we decide to stop scouting or if we are scouting for it to exclusively at Valley Parade?
I'll always remember a very rare Neil Cox going giving us a very good, against the odds, win years ago- relegation did follow. I also remember a few drubbings. Endlessly letting Ashley Young turn on his favoured foot and Zat Knight finding the whole thing a right laugh.
Villa 4 - Bolton(they can never take your dreams off you) 1

I'm in Fleetwood today visiting my step mother so I will be checking on my phone. I wonder if PP will change today and leave Madine on the bench or will it be more of the same. Would love us to score so I am going for a 1-3 defeat sorry about that. To all you hard core fans who still travel up and down the country to follow The Wanderers I hope things get better for you more than anybody else because you spend your hard earned money more out of hope that things will get better good luck to all of you fingers crossed for a goal or two.

Of course we will lose, but the question is can we score? Doubt it. 3-0 to Villa. Post match from manager and chairman will focus on how much we have improved since the Brentford game and how it is difficult to compete financially with teams like Villa. At least with the international break we won't have to suffer a defeat next week!

The team selection is predictable, but good to see Ameobi starting. I will be listening more in hope than expectation, but surely this demoralising run must end sooner rather than later, however unlikely it may seem. A bore draw would represent significant progress, and offer something upon which to build over the international break...Come on Whites, grab a positive result today and confound us all...please!!

You can see the interview now already can't you. We were well in the match until that Penalty. The refs cost us. Its a much improved performance. Now if we try and equalise we'll either get picked off, which he will claim is all due to the soft penalty. Or we try and defend to a 1-0 loss.
11 games. Never led.
Going into hour 12. Can we make it a whole day without scoring?
The best we can hope for in this match is a couple of injuries both for Pratley. One left leg, one right. Its just stubborness now why hes still getting picked. He's blocking the chance of an actual footballer.

A much more spirited performance from the Wanderers and a game in which neither team looked like scoring until Beevers's clumsy intervention. The team was better set up to press in midfield, but again we look dreadfully light up front. The left side of the team, Beevers, Taylor and Armstrong didn't inspire much confidence. Indeed, as we play, I cannot see the point of Armstrong. To get the most from him, we need clever balls for him to run on to. As things stand, he's total passenger, though as I imply, it's not all his fault. Sadly Beevers continues to give cause for concern and Taylor looks out of his depth. Despite many atrocious passes we actually never looked in much danger. Ameobi adds something, but why not switch him to the left for part of the game? Henry and Karacan always try hard, but we need a creative man alongside, not Pratley. Disapponting to get neither of the monkeys off our back, but I wouldn't write the season off just yet.

Paulm It's gone way past being an eternal optimist, with what we have (manager and players) I wrote the season off a month ago... After suffering the slings and arrows of Freedman, Coyle and Lennon, Parkinson and his situation offer nothing more positive than his predecessors failures.

Paulm how do you find the picture quality of the game is it watchable. So maybe we might get a score or a result at some time before Christmas, how did our greatest ever player Pratley play is he worth a place week in week out?

Hi Chiphill, when streaming via laptop to tv, the picture is very jerky. Using the app via ipad, it's really good. No commentary, however, and cameramen are variable ( today, whenever wanderers made a sub, they showed Blob Bruce on the touch line) But, as an exile in Switzerland, it's much better than the dreadful Wanderers World radio commentary. Pratley had one of his better games, which isn't saying much. With Henry and Karacan he's utterly redundant. We need a Frandsen or Sneekes who can pass the ball. I think Little played well and Robinson was far better than Taylor, but we need to take the pressure off the defence by holding the ball more. I do honestly think Villa were no better than us ( same with Ipswich) but the records show we lost both. Without a goal scorer in the pitch eg Alfie, that pattern will continue.
Keep the faith riochforthereebok.

Commentary suggested that the Wanderers were in the game throughout, and had a chance cleared on the line at the death...other than possession, (61% Villa, 39% Wanderers--B.B.C.), shots, corners and fouls were more or less the same for both sides, but the important stat remains that the team is winless in 11, and goal-less in 8. The international break is probably the most welcome that I can remember, particularly if Vela is fit and ready to play when fixtures resume...Sheffield Weds and QPR visit the Macron on consecutive weekends and it really doesn't bear thinking about the consequences of the Whites remaining winless after these 2 games with the gap to safety already at 7 points. There is a long way to go in terms of the number of fixtures, but with virtually a quarter of the season gone and a gap of 7 points already to 21st there needs to be a copious sprinkling of magic dust over Lostock during the coming fortnight, or failing that an overhaul of training and tactics that prepares a team that is capable of rising above the current malaise...one of my favourite songs is entitled 'Just One Victory', and October 14th would be the perfect time for it's sentiments to be realised on the pitch. I'm not being naΓ―ve or super-optimistic, just hoping against all likelihood that it will happen!

The fact that we're a match for Ipswich and Villa in a lot of the game surely goes against the argument that Parky only has the bare minimum of a squad.
We can be combative in this league and I'm sure in Buckley, Karacan and Cullen we have more 'ball players' than he's letting on. With Derick and Henry we have the protective players and then we have Ameobi, No one(auto correct has beaten by on this and I can no longer to keep changing it) and Morais for the flair.
I'm sure there's enough there to create chances for us under a new regime and with Alf staring we may have found that we may have taken the lead in games and changed the whole complexion of the games.
Parky has said that falling behind meant that we had to throw caution to the wind and got picked off! That's not unlucky, that's just the way it is and always has to be. sorry if going behind in games doesn't suit you Phil but you should be used to it by now

Villa friend of mine who was at the game sent me a text as follows.
"Plenty of endeavour and spirit from your boys but not much quality. I don't think you are the worst team in the league but Villa didn't really need to get out of 2nd gear today. Had me worried when we got to the last ten minutes as you never know with 1-0."
My view is that we have too many Division 1 standard players at the moment to make our mark in the Championship.

Sadly dad, the fact is this run mustn't necessarily end sooner rather than later, it can continue indefinitely if Parky keeps playing the same way. A bore draw might seem progress to you but to me it's just papering over the cracks. Some say the players just aren't good enough which may be true, but one thing is for sure and that is that Parky cetainly isn't good enough at this level. Surely that's obvious now and looking at his previous record and the only way to be sure the players are up to it is to give them a chance under a more positive, football minded manager.

From BBC: 61% Away39% Shots Home11 Away10 Shots on Target Home3 Away3 Corners Home5 Away4 Fouls Home15 Away15 Second game where radio commentator (the awful Chris somebody) (but much better than the pathetic Phil Gittings!!) said it was a better performance. 0.0 but for Beevers sabotage and Villa have been winning easily in their previous games. Keep them in training until all of them can blast a goal from anywhere over the half way line like one of my teachers used to do for his party trick with a leather ball.
