not so much an opinion poll, but a test of footie knowledge. Which Manager has most automatic promotions ( i.e not counting play- offs) from the Championship? i'm counting all promotions in the championship ,not just BWFC ones. if i've left anyone out in the poll, please add below in comments. either Bwfc managers, with us, or at other clubs..eg. Phil Brown.. or just other good managers from other clubs with multiples promotions. i've done a bit of research in this area (seeing as it looks like we'll have to get very used to this league for a fair old stint ) and will share a few findings. just interested to see what peoples views are . before you know the facts & stats.

I'm a bit thick so I do apologise if I misinterpret the poll, Only Allardyce and Coyle have got a team promoted via play off finals but that's not 'automatic' Or am I wrong??

Yawn - its Megson ofcourse. Allardyce? He's never got automatic promotion from the second tier. hehe. correct BP. 2 for Megson. 0 for Big sam - both of his were via play offs incl west ham. 0 for lit Sam ( hardly needed to say ). none for coyle..play offs only. none for DF either...he only managed palace for 11 games last season but they didn't make automatic anyway..so i don't give him much credit for that. incidentally in that 11 game spell he got off to another cracking start..losing his first 3 games, and only gaining 2 clean sheets in 11 !!! none for phil brown..play offs only. Rioch got us up via play offs. odd situation that as if memory serves, Reading finished 2nd but didn't get auto promotion due to downsizing of the Prem. Colin Todd. did get an auto promotion in the 100 pt's but not quite 100 goals season. i'll save a few facts and stats back ( til others had chance to comment ) about other managers with most promotions....including one that got away when we hired Freedman.

... so MTID, the point in this exercise is what? ....
... the tw*t (I did say twit rtf, trust me :-o) could have and should have had the fans behind him... no he thought he was a permanent part of an organization, always thinking he was indispensable... no he turned on us... and when the timing was right we told him to eff on, in a big way... a full stadium of fans... the wrong substitution made it happen... I often wondered what the Hull City fans thought at the time... good times... fan power... let's not praise this tw*t... mtid... I'd change my moniker if I was you... this tw*t will go down as the worst manager, we wished we never had...

Apart from the above list Warnock came to mind but given the clue is in the thread posters name I'll go with Megson

I'd change my moniker if I was you... this tw*t will go down as the worst manager, we wished we never had... worst manager ? after coyle winning just 4 home games . and getting us relegated. and countless other negative records he broke. now DF.. who captains Knight...and has worst start in the league for over 100 years ( and for no good reason, we had no great injury crisis or player sales ) . you don't have to like GM. but it's about respecting managers achievements. if DF got us 2 auto promotions he'd be put up as a flaming legend. i'd be the first to set the flames too . it's almost a case of ..careful what you wish for. if DF was met with the hostility that GM got , i think he'd have bitten back to ( i think he did partly at one point ) . Big Sam has bitten back too against west ham fans too. and he also found it hard to cope with Newc fans giving him loads of stick. my moniker is tongue in cheek to some regard, i don't hold him up to be a managerial legend. but i do respect his promotions more than most. BSA was a hard act to follow so it was always going to be virtually impossible to match what he did. but we beat man utd at the 'bok and kept a clean sheet. drew with Bayern away. beat Man city with Robinho et al 2-0 , got a gritty 0-0 famously in Keegan first home game in his return at Newcastle. beat atletico madrid 1-0 at home..and another clean sheet away 0-0. and drew 1-1 with chelsea at stamford bridge. some megson haters and dougie lovers on here rave about a DF who still can't beat a team in the top 9 in the chumpionship . something quite bizarre about that juxtaposition .

Point taken mtid ... but despite no-one wanting Megson he only started to get a bad reception when the performances started to merit it.

Apart from the above list Warnock came to mind but given the clue is in the thread posters name I'll go with Megson spot on there Trotter. haven't got the full list on me. but Warnock was one of those with 3 promotions from the 2nd tier. 1 with notts county, 1 with qpr, and 1 with sheff utd. can't remember if all automatic. Ian Greaves (RIP) took BWFC in the late 70's. he also has 2 promotions to his name, haVing previously taken Huddersfield up . as Wiki says..he only took over the reins at Huddersfield in 1968, by the end of 69/70 season, he'd got them up ! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ian_Greaves. Another guy with Wanderers connections with 2 promotions is Peter Reid . 2 promotions with Sunderland. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_Reid#As_a_manager

Steve Bruce is another of those with 3 promotions from the 2nd tier. twice with Brum. and one last year with Hull. can't remember if all automatic. but definitely a good manager, and done a good job with Hull this season. Mick McCarthy is another with 2 automatics prom's. got Sunderland up as Champions, and Wolves up as Champions too. seeing as most of us only really saw him in Prem, and always seemed to be struggling i think many like me, had doubts about whether he'd have been good for us..at the time when DF was appointed. but he's gone on to do a top job at Ipswich . approx 40% win % en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mick_McCarthy#As_a_managerthey don't have any great budget, nor any great stars. man for man, we must have a better squad than them. yet MM inherited a side leaking goals & below us in the table, even bearing in mind where OC left us, turned them round last year, and pushed on this year as contenders for play offs.
