Do you think it's possible that Gary Speed's suicide could be linked to the scandal emerging about abuse at football clubs?
As far as I'm aware, no motive has been found for his action; he seemed to be in a good place in his life. Newcastle is one of the clubs under investigation.

Sorry Joanna but the article was based on nothing and seemed to me like they were trying to create a figurehead for the scandal to sell papers. I was personally offended by it.
On your point Gary was not a young player at Newcastle so not quite sure I follow the link?
Whist Gary is not around to answer any speculation I find it insensitive to throw wild accusations around. Think of his family, do they really need this.
You're entitled to say what you want on here really but think its poor form and personally would delete this.

No, you've got the wrong end of the stick. Wouldn't the dates (and the article) suggest he was a victim, not a perpetrator?!! No one is suggesting anything untoward on Gary's part.
You need to read what is actually written a bit more carefully........rather than jump to inappropriate, hasty conclusions that are distasteful.

No, you've got the wrong end of the stick.......there must be numerous *junior players* who were coached etc at this time ...are you suggesting they were all victims....consider deleting post

I'm surprised at you, grud. Are you choosing to bury your head in the sand about the huge number of victims who have been brave enough to finally reveal their pain? Newcastle are particularly under scrutiny. Why would it be inconceivable that Gary might have been one of the victims.....with absolutely no blame attached to him?
What I am getting at (which you have missed) is that, if this WAS his motive for suicide, it would be extremely sad, because of the timing.
In the midst of all the other allegations NOW coming to light, Gary might have felt able to add to the list and realise he was not alone, nor at fault in any way.
And, Oomac, Gary WAS a young player at Newcastle at that time. Did you not read the article or check Wikipedia? I dare say The Mirror WAS trying to sell copies, but the writer does not suggest that Gary might have been anything other than a victim, in the same way as so many others allegedly were victims. Seems a plausible explanation to me, and does not warrant your criticism in this case

Safe to say that no I didn't read that article and after a quick view on wiki can't see that he started his career at Newcastle. Was with Leeds.
I never thought you were saying he was anything but a victim but still can't see why you would speculate on this given no evidence.
Think it's insensitive to his family and friends and we will agree to disagree on this one.
