At least for me It was quite a short trip. Jammed into cramped seats and staring into the sun it was quite a painful experience. We were ultra passive in the first half and kept hoofing the ball to a static Madine. It was a very lethargic performance. If ever we got a throw in only Clough moved. Madine upfront on his own in this sort of game is a poor choice. In midfield Vela huffed and puffed to limited effect. Thorpe was solid but just lacks the class of Derik. Derik's crisp intelligent passing v Port Vale had been a delight. Here there was none. Trotter saw a lot of the ball and rarely lost it but he kept passing sideways and backwards as did Vela. I think Taylor and Wilson did OK on the flanks and the latter linked up well at times with Ameobi in a generally better second half. But we were shot shy. Vela had the one worthwhile effort. Madine as ever rose too early and made a good chance look impossible by bad timing. We had a couple of scrambles,a few corners and one or two long range Clough shots but that was it- we were depressingly negative and passive.
Peterborough in contrast drove forward at pace when counter attacking. They created little and again Beevers and Wheater were excellent but on the basis of their youthful enthusiasm Peterborough deserved to win. That they did was down to a cracking goal. Live it was a splendid dipping shot. A top class keeper might have got it perhaps but Alnwick just wasn't up to it. I don't think Howard would have got it either-a shame about his injury. Alnwick 's kicking was awful but otherwise he was OK
It was from our point of view a dull and unambitious defeat. We never looked like scoring or indeed that we wanted to!
Alnwick 5 Wilson 6 Wheater 8 Beevers 8 Taylor 7. Thorpe 4 Vela 5 Trotter 6 Ameobi 6 Madine 4 Clough 5. Taylor 4 - fluffed our best chance

First half was as poor a match as you're ever likely to see. Lunchtime kick offs I always find are dour non starters and this half certainly proved that. Parkinson games will often be decided by one goal either wonder strike, defensive howler or set piece. Sometimes we'll benefit like Grimsby and other times we'll come away with nothing like Tuesday and today because PP likes a game void of action. Stalemate is his mate.
You would think watching it that it was pre-season friendly. A good solid work out for the lads. In truth it was a promotion fight but there was no fight at all from our players.
I don't think we deserved a win, and they could have easily added to their goal. They split our defence apart with accurate long balls. They played a more direct style and it looked so much more effective than our play. I would say we tried 'tika taka' but it was more 'namby pamby'. I don't understand why our wide players take so much time to get the ball in the box and when they do they float it in with no pace its so easy for their defenders to deal with, which they did.
Every sub we brought on weakened the team.
So many times Wilson gives the ball to Ameobi and then stands static, make a run. Take a defender with you. Too many times Sammy had nowhere to go and was forced away. We offered absolutely nothing on the left channel. I really don't understand his tactics today.
Agree with Andy's ratings, probably knock a mark off A Taylor as there were a few chances that came in from their right hand side, and the goal and he never got forward. He seemed reluctant to cross the ball rather waiting for someone else to float it in. Thorpe played as a second left back at times.
I've real concerns about half of this squad. There's no genuine pace there and the following players are not even at this level. I don't think any of the 3 out and out strikers Gary May-Dean(as the commentator insisted on calling him) Jamie Proctor and Keshi Anderson are good enough to score goals. That's the worry.
Chris Taylor and James Henry from what i've seen are stealing a career because they're not footballers. They are both taking up spots in the squad that I'd much rather see young players take.
Very disappointing but I get the feeling we need to get used to this again.
If Wilson helps out Ameobi that could be a real danger for us but we just didn't gamble today.

I can't trust PP in another transfer window because it's his vision that took the Taylors, Thorpe, Proctor, Henry and Anderson. I'd send them all packing as they've made absolutely no improvement to the mess left by Lennon. If we did have a more adventurous manager I'd still take Joey Barton and Kev Nolan just for experience but I can't ever see KA giving PP the boot (money again, which we don't have)
And in any case, the club is too silent on this HMRC 5hit so talking about the January transfer window is a complete waste of breath ☹️️
I would expect the two promoted teams from League One to be the ones currently in 1-2 position with Bradford winning the play off final☹️️

A very disappointing performance that improved in the second half but lacked any real fluency and incisive play, other than a couple of moves that led to crosses which were not anticipated by those in the box....instinct and anticipation are qualities sadly lacking unless Clough is in the penalty area, but he was given what seemed to be the Rooney role of taking every corner and free kick, with no end product. At least he and Vela had a couple of shots each, but as has been chronicled by others there were far too few forward passing moves generated, even allowing for it being an away performance. For all Peterborough's attacking efforts they rarely looked like adding to their superbly hit goal, but the Wanderers never looked like scoring. I hope that the upcoming home matches will see a return to the form shown against Port Vale, the so-called Manager Of The Month curse needs laying to rest asap.

Midfield overrun missed Spearing and Derik. Thorpe deserved more than a 4 Andy, he tried, and Trotter less than a rose tinted 6, he didn't. so 5 each.

Can't agree with the blanket criticism of P.P's signings...Thorpe (particularly at Swindon, and generally in his holding m/field role until injury) and A. Taylor have both added consistency and stability during the recent unbeaten run in the league, but were unfortunately part of a team at Peterborough that struggled as a unit. I would have thought that Henry, Proctor and Anderson could all be seen as positive signings..Proctor had scored 6 in 21 at Bradford last season, including 1 in the play-off semi-final, Henry had scored 18 goals in 99 midfield appearances at Wolves ( not counting 4 in 11 on loan before signing permanently), and the potential of Anderson as a young premiership player was surely something to offer optimism. That they haven't yet proved to be effective signings might well be an accurate appraisal, but I for one was enthused at their arrival, and hope that they might yet justify that enthusiasm. Ameobi has frustrated but also excited, and Beevers is surely one of the club's best signings in years.

Ameobi has frustrated but also excited, and Beevers is surely one of the club's best signings in years. I don't think Thorpe was fit enough and no blame to him this muted his contribution. Last time seen he was more influential. Derik is perhaps less rugged or secure but offers creativity thinking ahead and has a range of passing options long and short. Trotter as ever divides opinion. It isn't as simple as Trotter all things bad v all good. He divides my opinion. Somehow he gets trapped into sideways passing . On Sunday time and time he and others passed to feet or even behind when looking for width. Almost never did they play into space for full backs to run on to. Both kept having to play balls back. Trotter does not help his reputation radiating lethargy and sluggishness. He is capable of forward runs and incisive passing perhaps more so than anyone else but he just doesn't do it. Some of that is of course down to a lack of movement ahead. But it's also a passive mentality inculculcated presumably on the training ground and it's grindingly tedious. How often do we shout 'go forward'. Clough had a quiet game but on Sunday he was the only player moving for throw ins and was easily marked. Sometimes in sport I've always found that some days for no apparent reason everything clicks, others it just doesn't . Sunday was one of those. I think most of the new signings are doing well enough. Alnwick fluffed his entrance rather but we now need him to step up! Henry and Taylor C have offered glimpses but too many errors. Anderson as yet is perhaps unproven. Beevers must surely be player of the season so far!
