just wondering, who is our worst striker in recent years. every time we shift some dud, you think this new guy has got to be better than the last, and still even with low expectations, you end up disappointed. by Bad Davo, i mean SKD's last 18 months to 2 years when his already non-prolific scoring record had fell lower still, and he just couldn't run. never had pace but we lost his work-rate and closing down from the front. he dropped down to League 1 and couldn't even score there !
Elmander salvaged his reputation by a good final season, although there was a feeling that this was only because he was in the last year of his contract.
not got time to look up the stats for some of these guys....if anyones having a quiet day , it'd be good if we could get some added. the one about Ngog does stick in my mind....didn't score a single home goal in our PL relegation season. atrocious !! had decent work rate at times, but those memories of him clear through on goal, and just visibly shrinking every time. i think he gets my vote for that alone !
Heskey must run him close. shades of Bad Davo. a poor scoring record gets even worse. can't stay fit. can't run. only good for winning aerials.
Beckford...another incredibly frustrating one. had potential as a good poacher. but rarely saw it. not helped by playing as lone striker. often sulky and lazy IMO

could have added Sordell but we probably didn't see enough of him to judge.

I think it's unfair to include Heskey Ashe was pretty much finished when he came here and in fact he's often done a decent job holding the ball up and being a presence but he never was prolific. I think NGog was used wrongly and didn't always shine. I'd go for Madine personally if only because I believe he has it in him but has a lousy attitude.

Well, if your not putting Facey, Borghetti or Jardel on the list I'll have to go for Madine. We will never look back in time with fondness for Madine like we did with the like of Reeves and Philliskirk and they weren't brilliant, but we just loved them at the time. For me, Madine should never be plying his trade in the Championship, he would probably do ok in the National League. That said, the rest of the names on the list would come a very close second to Madine cos their all fkn useless as well

Yes - Madine for me . The challenge said'recent'. Sordell and Borgetti never had a chance.Ngog was a willing horse upfront . you definitely mean horse don't you, rather than donkey ..which reminds me of another of Ngog faults....dreadful first touch. couldn't trap the proverbial bag of cement . Chungy or Mavies would be building a nice slick move..sliding the ball into Ngog then the ball would bounce so far off him..it'd be in the next postcode! had some potential which perhaps made him more frustrating when he couldn't produce it. good work rate, good pace, but all to no end when your goal record is awful, poor 1st touch, and that mentality aspect. you see the chirpyness & glint in the eye of a Greavsie, Mccoist,... Mickey Quinn even has it. Franny Lee had it too. www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/colin-bell-ill-never-forgive-1089168impulsive, instinctive..the jokers of the dressing room. their eyes light up when their team gets a penalty. Ngog could hardly be more the other way if he tried. like i said in my original post, sent clean through on goal, his eyes don't light up, he's paralysed by fear . i think he's subsequently admitted to that too. and he was on a reported £35k per week- see link below. that's open up a different argument ...worst striker in value for money terms www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/fa-league-cups/liverpool-vs-bolton-neil-lennon-earns-much-credit-by-battling-with-wanderers-debts-9999627.html

Sordell getting a very easy ride considering he did absolutely nothing and cost £3.5M, and SKD in the options for simply being too old.
Whatever you think about Madine, he's done more than Tom Eaves who came for more money. Had more chances admittedly but I think you have to put Eaves in the mix with this group.
Even Conor Wilkinson. Good enough for an Anfield start but then Matt Mills chosen above him for the return leg. Never ceased his chances. Woolery has shown that for some reason its really bloody hard to get a game if you're a young striker. If you get 3 minutes you pretty much have to score to even be considered for another 3 next week.

It's very amusing one2many and a nice nod to this forum for asking the question in the first place. especially like the line , " at times, Ngog looked unplayable...these times lasted as much as a minute" !!

That forum went back to the Allardyce years though, if we were going that way back then surely Jardel has to be the worst ever.
Madine might be a carthorse and winning this race at a poll at a canter but if we took money spent on the player + wages + money paid to get them off the books then Goal Machine would probably be the most value an economic of the bad bunch.
