Courtesy of www.whoscored.com/Regions/252/Tournaments/7/Seasons/3859/Stages/7800/PlayerStatistics/England-Championship-2013-2014We are actually 7th in the table for number of goals scored, but we all know how much Dougie loves his counter attacking football, how many counter attacking goals have we scored this season? 0 along with Blackpool, Barnsley, Huddersfield and Nottingham Forest. We've all heard Dougie tell us time and time again how he wants us to play a passing game, we are 18th in the league for passing stats. We are 21st in the table for overall possession with only 46.8%, only Charlton, Birmingham and Yeovil have a worse % than us. Surprisingly we are 6th in the table for shots per game with 14.3. Medo comes No 1 in the number of tackles per game, Spearing @ 23, Baptiste @ 72, CYL @ 83, Ream @ 112, Wheater @ 125, Knight @ 252 Our first player to feature in the goal scoring list is Moritz with 7 @ No: 38, Beckford also with 7 @ 45, Danns with 5 @ 67, Baptiste with 4 @ 74 (not sure why Juke's goals aren't shown) For all those who say Spearing can't pass, he is our most accurate passer of the ball with a success rate of 81.3% @ no: 52, Neil Danns with 80.2 @ 75, CYL with 79.2 @ 90 Funnily enough all the goalkeepers come at the end of the list, with Adam Bogdan having the worst pass percentage of the whole Championship with only 40.8% @ 356. Zat Knight is our next worst with 59.9 @ 323. www.soccerstats.com/h2h_selection.asp?league=england2If you select Bolton in the drop down menu, and look at the third table down, that shows you how we have fared against the teams above us having won only 4 games out of a possible 26 against the 13 teams currently above us. Even Barnsley have managed to win 3 games against the top 8 teams, Yeovil won 1, Blackpool 3 and Millwall 5 against the top 9.

It's not a case of being a Dougie lover, it's a case of looking at all the contributing factors that make us dog shit.... Phil Gartside, the debt, etc....

The debt is a red herring this season, it may affect next season with the fair play rules. OK DF could not go out and spend big on players, but he did his loan business both ways and declared himself happy with his acquisitions. It is how he has used the resources he had. In my view he has done that badly from the pre season friendlies to date. The stats confirm this as does our position in the league and the entertainment value of watching his selections play.

totally agree Bonaparte. debt is meaningless this season. & you're quite right to mention pre-season too. why were we failing to win games then and failing to keep clean sheets against lower Div sides. nothing to do with debt. just a manager with shocking judgement who at that time was trying to ditch Ream & Mills & making Zat captain !!!. 0 wins against the top 9 sides is a shocking stat. the comparisons to Moyes at old trafford are quite spooky. he doesn't know how to set up a team to attack. counter attack is a legitimate tactic if you play it well like Mourinho or Madrid last night. they phave the players for it.... Bayern press high leave loads of space in behind... and the likes of Bale, Ronaldo, di Maria are speed merchants and dribblers who get in behind and score tons of goals like that. whereas as RtF Stats point out, we have 0 goals on the counter, and don't have much pace up front or on wings unless Hall plays. even we we get ahead in games you just can't trust Dougie to see a game out...Brighton did it amazing to us at the 'Bok ( macron-yuk !) , just passing it around in triangles back and square, back and square, totally took the sting out of the game. with us, we sit back, and drift deeper and deeper. DF seems unaware that opposition are not just going to give up. they will gamble..take risks and push more up front late on. DF needs to learn the basic mantra..if we've got the ball, the opponent CANNOT score !. clean sheets have improved lately but mainly down to bogdans return to form and Wheaters return too. and even the dreaded Zat has upped his game in a late gain to play for himself for a new contract..which i hope DF is wise enough to swerve

Have to third that, all this talk of debt is just one of those things where if the club/BN and others keep saying it enough then everyone will believe it. Even Freedman inherited a decent squad and it should have been doing much better than it has. I'm sure a manager in the mould of say Allardyce would have been able to motivate this set of players. Its no excuse to talk about the debt at this point.
But definitely some pretty damning stats there rtf..

According to Granada reports (not always the best source) Sean Dyche only spent £500,000 on new players to get Burnley promoted to Premier League. Unlike Dougie Freedman who has spent that on one player alone (Rob Hall)according to the WHU website and reported at the time www.whufc.com/articles/20130830/hall-compensation-package-set_2236884_3442353 West Ham United can confirm that the Professional Football Compensation Committee have set the compensation package with Bolton Wanderers for the transfer of Rob Hall (a player he has played all of 18 times this season). An independent tribunal has ruled that Bolton Wanderers must pay West Ham United an initial sum of £450,000 with the following further additions: • £250,000 if Bolton are promoted to the Premier League in the next three seasons (so that will be nothing then)• £2,500 per appearance for the first 100 appearances (for Bolton) in the Championship (so he has already cost us an extra £45,000 plus his wages) • or £10,000 per appearance for the first 100 appearances (for Bolton) if in the Premier League • 20% of any profit made by Bolton Wanderers in selling the player to another club at any point in the future. which will mean nothing as we never make any profit on selling playersThis is in addition to all the other fees we have paid for players signed on loan or permanently, and what has Freedman achieved yes the heady heights of 14th (currently) It kind of puts Freedman's achievements or more to the point lack of them into perspective doesn't it, and makes Dyche's seem that much more impressive.

Burnden got it right, Freedman did inherit a decent squad and after the 2-2 draw v Blackpool last season and with a few decent additions to that squad, I was really upbeat about our chances of promotion, until we hit the pre season games and we were a shambles! We should have realised then that the upcoming season was going to be a flat one Reading the names of Holden, Mavies, CYL Wheater, Ream, Cravies etc should have pi55ed this league and this was before we all fell for the Spearing spell (loan players always do well until they are signed up, then they dramatically become shit overnight) so to deliver a season like we've just had is unforgivable, those players must show next season that they can cut it. Freedman needs 6 games and that's it!!! If we're no further on, he has to be potted

Matt Mills is our overall best rated player (who does these ratings?) at #58. Darren Pratley our lowest at #342/356! Some of those in between are quite interesting - Baptiste at #101 is our 6th rated player overall!! These stats are all quite shocking really and would be useful to put to DF/Gartside at the next Fan's Forum - if we ever have one again!

I'd give him about 6ft of slack, just enough to hang himself when it all goes pear shaped, again

At the end of the season Freedman will have done what Management wanted, reduced the wage bill and got the high earners off the pay roll. He might also bring in a few quid from selling some or all of our better players, Mavies, Ream, Chungy and Wheater, another feather in his cap. What happens then is anyone's guess but for the first time since he arrived he'll be judged on the results. It would surprise me if he's successful as I've seen nothing from him so far to suggest otherwise but I do live in hope even if not in expectation.

finally got round to watching my recording of the FL show. 1st game on... Wigan v Blackpool. 2-0 win for Blackpool. only struck me then that this team even in a bad run of form could eek out a win against a top 9 side, unlike us. sometimes these things can be statistical quirks, but with Df's record against the top sides ( let me remind you.. 0 wins against the top 9 sides this season ) , i really do think there's a bit more to it than that. even though i don't rate DF, i thought the quality in the squad was enough to keep us top half/ top 10 in this league, but DF wouldn't be shrewd enough to make the play offs. the comparisons to Moyes really interest me. here's Moyes record at everton v top 4 sides away from home : PLAYED 48. WON = 0 . a win % of 0%. !! his successor Martinez, instantly wins at Old trafford..with Everton. having also beat a top side in a cup final last yr, with Wigan. www.teamtalk.com/manchester-city/9161134/Prem-stats-Moyes-away-woeshow about Moyes record at man utd this season. all very similar as is style of play obviously. using 1 of rtf'S links www.soccerstats.com/h2h_selection.asp?league=englandselect man utd in the drop down box to confirm his record as the following. against the top 8. 1 win in 13 games . a win % of 7 %. and against the top 8 AWAY. 0 wins. so despite his good away form generally ; against the top 8, it's poor. and which pale -faced scot sees the pale faced Moyes as his role model...well lo and behold Df does. www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/21197243DF said of Moyes :- "I think many young managers will look at him and try to do what he's done. To many young managers, David Moyes is an inspiration.". Moyes did well at Everton...being hard to beat..but in this Championship, we need to go out and win games, not just be gritty. "be brave" as Giggs said last week in his press conference about how his style would differ form Moyes. for Moyes, read Freedman. if you look at that other link RTF supplied above. the possession stats also tell an interesting tale. we are ranked 21st for possession. look at the teams near us in the table.. yeovil, brum, barnsley, millwall, charlton.....all relegation -threatened. look a the top 7 - qpr, brighton, derby, leics, forest wigan etc. all round about plays offs and auto-prom's . that's not down to players quality for us, it's DF's tactics to play without the ball and shun posession. we're ranked 8th in the table for LONG BALLS PER GAME. passing sides like derby, bournemouth, leics, brighton, wigan form the bottom 5 in that table !! . we're 17th in the rankings for shorts passes..short passes are of course easiest to make...but we don't do them. [[btw the stats show Everton have improved possession from last season , ( moyes>martinez) .]] the same old candidates ..brighton, derby leics, qpr b/mouth form the top 5 in that table. even Doncaster are above us for short passes , and no-ones telling me they have a better squad than us.
