From The Lion of Vienna Suite blog:
"GK Andy Lonergan 8: Again the big goalkeeper was the pick of the bunch, pulling off some key saves. He could do nothing about Butterfield's wonder goal.
CM Liam Trotter 4: A very disappointing performance from the big midfielder. He gave the ball away far too easily and far too frequently, he is not creative in possession of the ball, he doesn't work particularly hard and he doesn't carry a goal threat. He'll be lucky to stick around Bolton in January, and I'd rather see Josh Vela given a chance in midfield when we have a right-back available
Subs:
Emile Heskey 6 (replaced Pratley, 67): Unlucky not to make it two goals in two games, when he wrongly had a goal disallowed for offside."
I think that talk of reaching the play-offs is premature and unrealistic. We have been winning points principally due to the outstanding form of CYL who will now be absent for a month, and the great shot-stopping of Lonergan. These two have dominated the nominations for man-of-the-match over the last 9 games. If a team's goalkeeper is regularly winning these awards, then what does it say about the players who are meant to be protecting him from having too many shots to save? Look at the statistics for the Huddersfield game. Inevitably, the number of shots on target is bound to decide many matches to come.....unless Lennon, Parker and Mjallby can either recruit appropriately in January, or improve the defensive performances of those in front of AL. Ream gets run ragged by nippy wingers.

Great observations Joanna with CYL, he will be greatly missed.
I think until NL can sprinkle thi ole magic dust and bring players he feels fit and good enough to improve the current squad this season is all about survival!
Playoffs even though possible when you take a gander at the table, would be a dream but like you pointed out there are players in the squad that have and will continue to let the side down unless they are moved on. With a tight budget on transfers I feel that playoffs will not be reached unless NL is fully backed and allowed to bring in quality.
