I would go back to 1985/86 when I started watching Wanderers. My old man had a new job, and he bought himself a season ticket. I wasn't really into football at that time only having been taken to Old Tampax by my Dad's best mate a few times and just finding it boring. Ironically, if anybody asked me who I supported I would just say 'United' and if they asked 'Man Utd?', I would always say "No, Torquay United!!!!
Anyway, my first game at Burnden Park was against Wolves and we won 4-1.... that was something else, the game, the atmosphere, the smell of Burnden, the shit pies, everything, I even remember at one game that season that Dad bought me a cup of tea, which had to be that instant crap!!! Well, it was raining so hard that cup of tea seemed to last forever!!!
The season even ended with a trip to Wembley..... I remember the thrill of travelling down in a hired Astra van with flags and scarves flying, waving at what seemed to be the entire town on route.
Great days!!!!

I'd have to say Bruce's first season after Phil Neal
Best ever time to be a Wanderer We were constantly beating teams 3 4 and 5 nil in most games And any season which had McGinlay and Walker terrorising defences And that Hull City pitch invasion will long live in the memory

I remember the Hull away game and the days after which my voice took to get back to normal, that was such an important game in the whole context of promotion and the immediate future of the club. The Rioch days were fab. But the thread is what season ? I think I'd like to put forward the 100 goal season under Colin Todd as my pick.

Eggy you are right in many ways, Hull City was a great night, the 100 goals achieved at Tranmere of all places was also great, I also remember hard fought games at Bradford were we drew 1-1 which was just as important, great times non the less.

I'd just love to go back to Wembley for the Reading play off final, to be 2-0 down with a penalty against us, remember watching so many people get up and leave at that point. What a game, can you imagine this lot having the guts to come back from that.

The best game I've ever been to that ! I agree BTID, that game will long live in the memory, especially OC's salmon leap header to bring us back into it. I still have the game on video and love to watch it periodically. It never ceases to amaze me how we grew stronger as they weakened. What a game and what a wonderful team.

Been looking at getting the game on DVD, did find a contact from the Roadrunner video days. But never got anywhere with it.
